Childhood and adolescence

Boris Mikhailovich Moiseev (Moises) was born on March 4, 1954 in the city of Mogilev (Belarus) in a local prison. His mother's name was Genya Borisovna Moises, she was Jewish and was imprisoned as a political prisoner. According to Boris himself, mom was convicted for just one unflattering statement about communist party USSR. The boy never saw his father and did not even know for sure who he was. According to one version, that man worked as the head of the block in the prison where Genya was imprisoned, and helped the woman in every possible way. According to another version, it was an unknown business traveler who was once in Mogilev, and Genya herself was never in prison.

Be that as it may, little Borya became the third son of his mother. The woman dreamed of a daughter and throughout her third pregnancy she was sure that she would have a long-awaited girl, so she sewed girls’ shirts with embroidery for the future baby. When a son was born instead of a daughter, Genya still dressed him in these girlish clothes and even at an older age she bought girlish things for her son. Neighbors of this family, who lived in the Jewish district of the city of Mogilev, said that little Borya really resembled a girl: he was fair-haired and curly, blue-eyed and affectionate. He slept in the same bed with his mother for a very long time, even when he was no longer a child, but a teenager.

Boris had two half-brothers - Anatoly (born 1941) and Marx (born 1943). Their father went to the front and did not return, and then it became known that he was alive and had new family in Lithuania. Genya Borisovna was forced to work almost continuously at the Mogilev tannery in order to provide everything necessary for her three children. This woman’s life ended very tragically: she was already a bedridden patient, when suddenly a deaf-mute neighbor broke into her room, mistook the door, and killed the unfortunate woman with a crutch. This happened in 1989, when son Boris was on tour in the USA. He dedicated the song “Deaf and Mute Love” to his mother’s memory.

As a child, Borya was weak and often sick. To improve her son’s health, his mother enrolled him in a dance club. There the boy was able not only to strengthen his body, but also to reveal himself as a person and to liberate himself. Borya felt that dancing was his calling for life. Therefore, after graduating from school, at the age of fourteen, he went to the capital of the republic, Minsk, and entered the Minsk Choreographic School. His teacher was the ballerina Nina Mlodzinska, who once performed with famous Anna Pavlova. Thus, Boris Moiseev has a classical dance education.

Beginning of career: dancing, performances and solo performances of Boris

After the Minsk Choreographic School, Boris ends up in Kharkov opera house, where his career in the ballet troupe is developing very rapidly: from an extra to a choreographer. In 1975, Moiseev changed his place of residence to the Lithuanian city of Kaunas, known at that time for its freedom and relative independence even within Soviet Union. At first, Boris was a simple dancer in a local musical theater, but soon “grew” to the position of chief choreographer of the Trimitas orchestra.

Moiseev increasingly moved away from the classics and preferred the stage. To realize his ideas, after three years in Kaunas, he created his own dance group - the dance trio “Expression”. This happened in 1978. Besides Boris himself, there were two spectacular girls there - Larisa (Lari) Nikolaevna Khitana (after Romanov’s husband) and Lyudmila Chesnulyavichyute. The trio performed in the famous Jurmala variety show “Juras Perle” (“Sea Pearl”), where Laima Vaikule began her career.

Alla Pugacheva often came there and drew attention to the young and promising trio. The future Diva invited Express to Moscow and personally contributed to the promotion of the team. The trio toured together with Pugacheva and beginning artists Kristina Orbakaite and Vladimir Presnyakov. In 1987, Expression was ready to leave the wing of Alla Pugacheva and began its independent activities around the world.

For four years, the trio “Expression” has been performing in clubs in Italy, France and America; it could often be seen in the TV show “Raffaella Carra Presents” on the Italian channel “Rai Due”. Soon Boris is invited to the position of choreographer and director of the municipal theater in the American city of New Orleans. In 1991, Expression returned to Russia, and a documentary film dedicated to the now popular trio was released on television.

Also in 1993, the play “The Show Goes On - In Memory of Freddie Mercury” was presented to the audience. In all these performances, Boris Moiseev not only dances, but also sings. At first, the public has mixed reactions to this innovation from the eccentric dancer, but gradually gets used to his new image and manner of performance.

Boris Moiseev's first song album was released in 1996, it was called “Child of Vice”. The most famous songs from it were “Child of Vice”, “Egoist”, “Tango Cocaine”. The next album was the 1998 album “Holiday! Holiday!". The end of the 90s was marked by the release of Moiseev’s most famous songs: “Deaf and Mute Love,” “The Nutcracker” and the most famous, “Blue Moon.” The last two compositions were sung together with Nikolai Trubach. Somewhat later, the composition “Black Velvet” was released. In 2004, a bright duet appeared: Boris Moiseev and, singing the song “Petersburg-Leningrad”, which received several awards. And with the French singer Nilda Fernandez, Boris Mikhailovich created another hit - “When will you forget me.” In 2012, the album “Pastor. Participation in the show

Boris Moiseev also tried himself as a participant in television shows. In 2010, Moiseev was hospitalized with a stroke. The left side of his body was completely paralyzed. He was put into an induced coma and connected to a ventilator. Until 2016, Boris Moiseev dropped out of active artistic life. He was seen only on bicycle rides in Moscow.
