World love stories. The most famous couples in human history

Everyone dreams of the kind of love for which you can move mountains or give up really important things if circumstances require it. Unfortunately, many people search for such feelings for years, but never find them and, not wanting to waste time on trifles, prefer to live alone all their lives. However, we found several real stories, which confirm that true love exists.

Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner

For America, Frank Sinatra became a true legend and symbol of the era of show business and the golden era of Hollywood. And while all the beauties of that time tried to win his heart, including Marilyn Monroe and Lana Turner, only one woman truly drove him crazy. He was so lost in this love that he went on a drinking binge, lost his voice and at times behaved inappropriately. The actress who drove the great performer crazy was named Ava Gardner, and she had a magical effect on men. They were immediately ready to do anything if only this beauty would pay attention to them.

Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner

Before meeting Sinatra, Ava had already been married twice and had a crazy affair with multimillionaire Howard Hughes. Howard threw planes, diamonds, and luxurious clothes at the feet of the wayward beauty, but she only accepted the gifts with cold politeness, keeping her admirer at a distance. By the way, Frank himself, who also had a wife and three children, did not consider having a family an obstacle to love affairs. The fatal meeting took place in 1950 at the premiere of the film “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” After that evening, Sinatra was not himself, he suffered, was tormented and went crazy with love and jealousy. He couldn't shower the object of his passion expensive gifts, so he relied only on his charm, which, alas, did not always work. As a result, Sinatra wrote his greatest hits and over time achieved the actress’s favor. Two southern temperaments came together, and feelings resulted in energy true love and a passion that was impossible to resist.

At first, the lovers met secretly, because Sinatra was still not free. Then Ava flew to Spain, where she began an affair with a bullfighter, and Frank, who found out about this, almost died of grief. The actress took pity on him, promising to return, but then fell into the arms of Richard Greene. The performer was pumped up with sleeping pills, and only a miracle saved him. Ava finally gave in and agreed to marry him. The ceremony took place in Philadelphia, and the couple enjoyed a quiet couple of years family happiness. But then they begin to torment each other with jealousy and in 1957, after a stormy showdown, they file for divorce. Frank claimed that after Ava he had many women, but none could give him the feelings that he experienced with his muse.

  • More details

This is perhaps the most famous misalliance in history, when for the sake of his beloved woman the English monarch Edward VIII voluntarily abdicated the throne. Envious people vied with each other to discuss the fact that the King of England suddenly became infatuated with a twice-divorced American woman. This was not only strange, but also unreasonable, in the opinion of many Englishmen. Residents of Britain were sure that a kind of end of the world had come and the collapse of moral and ethical standards and foundations of secular society.

Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII of England

The 36-year-old monarch met Mrs Wallis Simpson at a dinner party in early November 1930. At the same time, as historians recall, the prince fell in love with a married lady at first sight, although she was far from beautiful and did not have any outstanding talents. However, you cannot command your heart, and soon the prince won her favor. The lovers were not embarrassed by Wallis’s status, public censure, or boycott royal family, who hoped that the monarch would soon play enough and find himself a worthy passion. But it was not there!

In January 1936, when he died English king George V, Edward took the throne, and Wallis immediately decided to officially divorce her legal spouse. At the same time, neither parliament nor members of the royal family even wanted to hear about this divorced American suddenly becoming the wife of a monarch. Therefore, poor Edward had to make a choice between the English throne and his feelings. It was obvious to many that he would choose the title and crown. But, alas, Edward decided to leave everything for the sake of his beloved woman.

On December 10, 1936, Edward VIII publicly abdicated the throne, making his famous speech, and then devoted himself entirely to family life. The couple lived a very happy life and traveled a lot until the monarch died of cancer in 1972.

Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier

Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier

One of Alfred Hitchcock's most beloved actresses, Grace had a Nordic appearance and a reserved manner that gave the impression that she was not hollywood celebrity, and the most real princess. However, despite the outward coldness, the star was very amorous and passionate and could easily have a light affair right on the spot. film set with the operator or accept beautiful courtship from the Iranian Shah. In Hollywood they believed that Miss High Society, as the actress was called angelic appearance, deserves to be the wife of only a real prince. In the end, this happened, and soon Grace was married to Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

It is worth noting that the acquaintance that took place in 1955 changed the lives of not only young people, but also the entire state. The prince had been looking for a worthy wife for a long time, so marrying a famous Hollywood beauty with a good reputation helped attract investment and arouse the interest of tourists in the bankrupt Monaco. Rainier figured that a wedding to an Oscar-winning Hollywood actress would be a successful PR move, and the luxurious ceremony, held in 1956, revived interest in Monaco and turned the region into one of the most prestigious on the planet. The country fell in love with its new princess, and Grace gave the state not only long-awaited heirs, but also new economic opportunities.

Rainier's wife basked in attention, changed outfits from couturiers, posed for glossy publications and visited other countries on official visits. However, while millions of people dreamed of being in the same fairy tale, Grace suffered from the difficult character of her husband, and social duties were real hard labor for her. Soon the actress had health problems, she began to gain weight, and her grown children began to run away from home, abandon social responsibilities and have affairs with bodyguards.

In 1982, Kelly lost control of her car and got into a car accident. The injuries she received turned out to be incompatible with life, so almost the next day, by the prince’s decision, the life support machine supporting his wife’s condition was turned off.

His world turned upside down the moment he was introduced to the young opera singer Maria Callas, whose talent was applauded by the whole world.

In October 1968, Aristotle Onassis married the widow of US President Jacqueline Kennedy, and Maria, who learned about this from the newspapers, locked herself in her apartment and turned into a real recluse.

1. Cleopatra and Mark Antony

This is, without a doubt, the most famous love story, repeatedly portrayed in plays and films. Cleopatra, queen of Egypt, was a very charismatic woman with a charming voice (contemporaries say nothing about her beauty). She constantly fought for the right to be considered the ruler of her country with her own relatives, and in order to finally establish herself as the queen of Egypt, she was forced to look for a patron, and found him in the person of 52-year-old Gaius Julius Caesar. 21-year-old Cleopatra was able to conquer the great conqueror and became Caesar's mistress. He was already married, but this did not stop him from taking Cleopatra with him to Rome, along with their common son Caesarion. The Romans were quite worried about the fact that Caesarion could become the heir of the great Caesar. But it didn’t come to that - Caesar, as we all know, was stabbed to death at the next meeting of the Senate.

Cleopatra returned to Egypt, where she learned about the formation of the next ruler of Rome. She decided to seduce him, and to carry out her plan, she sailed to Tarsus (present-day Turkey) on a special ship. Anyway, Mark Antony fell in love with Cleopatra, and soon after they became lovers, Cleopatra bore Antony two twins.

The end of the relationship, as well as the lives of both lovers, was put by the confrontation between Mark Antony and Octavian, Caesar’s nephew (Antony, by the way, was married to Octavian’s sister, but left her for Cleopatra). Mark Antony returned to Rome, quarreled with Octavian, and a war began, which ended in the complete defeat of the combined forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. After Octavian's troops entered Egypt, Cleopatra hid in the mausoleum, and Anthony was told that she had committed suicide. Mark Antony, without hesitation, threw himself on the sword and died in the arms of his beloved. Cleopatra killed herself after she learned that she would be carried through the streets of Rome in a carriage, as a symbol of defeated Egypt.

2. Catherine the Great and Grigory Potemkin

In 1761, Catherine the Great was not yet Great, she was just the wife of a not particularly wise tsar Peter III. After only a year of reign, he was deprived of power (not without the help of Catherine) and killed (maybe Catherine herself sent the killers, there is such an option). After this, a prominent military man, Grigory Potemkin, stands guard over the life and peace of the queen.

She was never indifferent to male beauty and strong character, and fell madly in love with Potemkin, showering him with money and honors. To the credit of the latter, Potemkin really began to serve his queen faithfully. Ekaterina, being very strong spirit a woman who loved Potemkin so much that she even wrote him tender love letters, which she almost never did. Potemkin and Catherine, according to some sources, even got married, although the fact of the wedding is doubtful among many historians. The wedding took place in 1774 in the Church of the Ascension, which has not survived to this day.

Catherine and Potemkin eventually became just comrades-in-arms, but Catherine until the end of her days had very warm feelings for her secret husband. After his death at the age of 52, she lost heart and was almost constantly depressed.

3. Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine

In the fall of 1795, Josephine, in her thirties, met with Napoleon, who had just turned 26 years old. To him she seemed like a very elegant and graceful lady, noble and even somewhat proud. Perhaps the success was also reinforced by the fact that Josephine managed to perfectly play the role of the supplicant.

In general, Napoleon and Josephine got engaged, and they did it at a time when no one could yet suspect Napoleon’s dizzying career. By the way, when he goes on long hikes, she plunges headlong into love adventures.

Despite everything, Napoleon idolizes his wife, and his joy is overshadowed by only one fact - Josephine cannot get pregnant. In the end, Napoleon breaks the bonds of marriage, although he does not stop loving his Josephine. She was the only person, to whom the prisoner of St. Helena turned in his dying delirium. He did not see any flaws in his “goddess”, and kept his love until his death.

The future tsar and Alexandra Feodorovna were engaged in 1893. Soon after this, Nicholas's father died, and, a couple of days later, Nicholas II became Tsar of all Russia. Their love continued until the idyll was disrupted by the uprising of workers and peasants, plus Grigory Rasputin appeared on the horizon.

Be that as it may, on July 16, 1918, all royal family was destroyed by the Bolsheviks. People died, but their love story remained.

5. Charles Lindbergh and Anna Spencer Morrow

Their relationship attracted worldwide attention, and just one year later, Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow became husband and wife. Soon after, Charles and Anne began flying together, conquering the skies. They set the world speed record between Los Angeles and New York in 1930, with Anna already seven months pregnant.

Both were not only skilled pilots, but also wrote books, becoming the authors of as many as 13 books. Unfortunately, the bright life of both was overshadowed by the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh son in 1932. Despite everything, Lindeberg is considered one of the most romantic couples, who really lived in perfect harmony, as they say.

Famous people love, lose and suffer no less than others. We will tell you about the seven most touching and sad love stories that the whole world watched.

One of the most famous couples in America of the 50s - an iconic actress and a famous baseball player. In 1954, the lovers got married and seriously planned to become a model family. The fatal blonde insisted with all her might that she wanted to give birth to Joe’s children and become a complete home woman. True, in Marilyn’s understanding this did not include leaving Hollywood. Of course, the hot Italian husband did not like this, and his wife’s status as a sex symbol acted on him like a red rag on a bull. Jealousy conquered love, and after just 2 years of marriage the couple separated.

However, the warmest feelings between the former spouses still remained - all their lives they maintained communication and helped each other. Moreover, it was DiMaggio who was involved in preparing Monroe’s funeral, and on his orders, fresh flowers appeared on the actress’s grave for many years as a sign of love and respect from her former lover.

This love story began quite pragmatically - presidential candidate John Kennedy needed a profitable match and found it in the person of the respectable and educated Jacqueline Bouvier. The wedding took place in 1953 - the couple looked impeccable, but their happiness was mostly an invention of PR people. Kennedy did not take the oath of fidelity to his wife particularly seriously and started affairs left and right, while the faithful Jacqueline tolerated all his adventures and remained nearby during severe attacks and operations that John endured due to his serious problems with the spine.

In the late 50s, Jackie's patience ran out and she decided to file for divorce. Her father-in-law and former diplomat Joe Kennedy persuaded her to save the marriage. The couple stayed together, and for some time peace and love truly reigned in their family - John began to appreciate his wife, and she allowed their relationship to start over with a new leaf.

But the idyll was not destined to last b for a long time - on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, a shot killed Kennedy and at the same time ended the story of their relationship with Jacqueline.

Witnesses of that tragic event especially remembered the gesture of the faithful wife, who decided not to change her blood-spattered suit so that the whole world could see not only her pain, but also the horror of the crime committed by the killer.

Although Birkin did not become the first love of the French chanson star Serge Gainsbourg, she definitely left a serious mark on his life and work. The couple met in 1968 on the set of the film “Slogan”. At first they hated each other, but after a while the situation changed dramatically, and from an enemy, Jane turned into the musician’s third wife.

The lovers stayed together for 12 long years, during which their daughter Charlotte was born and the famous hit “Je t"aime... Moi non plus” (“I love you... I don’t either”), which was personally criticized by the Pope, which , however, only added to the song’s popularity.

The tandem broke up due to Serge's addiction to drinking, but they remained good friends and colleagues - it was Gainsbourg who wrote it for Birkin best songs. To this day Jane speaks of ex-husband with great warmth and calls him a very vulnerable, but incredibly talented person.

This romance can rightfully be called a work affair - it flared up on the set of the film “Flame Over England”, where Lee and Olivier played lovers. Despite the fact that both actors were married, they decided to not care about everything and start living together. The couple decided to formalize the divorce from their other halves only a few years later, and only after that they were able to register their relationship.

Both sides destroyed this beautiful story -Lawrence was tormented by envy of his beloved’s success, and Vivienne began to experience an exacerbation of manic-depressive psychosis, which ultimately ruined her life and put an end to her passionate relationship with Olivier.

The actor came to his senses quite quickly, got married a year later and lived happily for 30 years, but Lee died just 7 years later from tuberculosis and remained single for the rest of her life.

The fatal blonde of our time and her famous husband met in 1968 on the set of the Warner Brothers studio. The romance flared up quickly - the couple got married the same year. The couple stayed together for 7 years.

They separated because of Penn - he was never famous for his exemplary behavior, but in those days he broke all records: he regularly got drunk, was wildly jealous of his wife and often beat her. One day he became completely carried away - the severely beaten singer even filed a report with the police. A little later, she actually took him away, saying that she wished Sean all the best, as long as he was away from her.

However, Madonna's feelings were strong - she later admitted more than once that Penn was her greatest love. In 1996, she invited the actor to attend her birth, and after that she regularly appeared with him at events and was extremely flattered when Sean visited and approved one of her performances. However, the couple was never able to fully forgive each other, and their reunion remained only in the dreams of fans.

6. Romy Schneider and Alain Delon

Another love affair at work, which, moreover, began with mutual hatred - having met on the set of the film “Christine,” the impulsive Delon and the sophisticated Schneider immediately disliked each other. But a few months later, Romy moved from Australia to Paris to Alain, and a couple of months later their engagement was announced. The wedding, however, never took place - after some time, Delon was spotted by the paparazzi with a certain blonde, a little later he left Romi, and he married this blonde. Schneider remained bottom.

Coping with grief, she got married and forgot to think about Delon, until fate brought them together again on the set of the film “The Swimming Pool.” As it turned out, fate was here And Moreover, the role for Romy was procured by the actor himself. Passion flared with new strength, Schneider’s husband left, and soon Delon himself fled, again leaving the actress alone with herself and her pain.

Romy's suffering turned into a passion for alcohol, and in 1981 she suffered another blow - her 14-year-old son suddenly died. Soon the actress herself died of a broken heart.

Delon accepted death ex-lover as his own fault - he wrote about this in a letter published in one of the newspapers: “It was because of me that your heart stopped beating. Because of me, because 25 years ago I was made your partner in Christina.

7. Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger

Williams and Ledger met on the set of the controversial film Brokeback Mountain. According to the actors' colleagues, their romance flared up immediately. The couple was happy together for three years - in 2008, after the birth of their daughter Matilda, they announced their engagement. However, they never got married - after some time, both actors announced a break in relations. For the press, the main version was the employment of Ledger and Williams. But close sources said that the matter was Heath’s addiction to drugs. The actor also experienced a difficult and painful breakup with Michelle with their help. And soon he was found dead in his own home. He allegedly accidentally mixed strong sleeping pills, after which he could no longer wake up.

Williams suffered from the loss for a long time and is unlikely to fully recover from it now. In an interview, she said that no one can even imagine how many things died for her along with Heath.

Do you believe in true love? Love at first sight? Do you believe that love can last for centuries? There are many love stories that are considered immortal. Here are some of them. If anyone has anything to add, you are welcome!!!

Romeo and Juliet

These are probably the most famous lovers in the world. And although their love story was written by Shakespeare, they are an example of real feelings.

Cleopatra and Mark Antony

This story is one of the most memorable and intriguing. Their relationship is the truest test of love. Their love was at first sight. And despite all the threats, they got married. Antony, having received a false message about Cleopatra's death, commits suicide, and after him, Cleopatra did the same.

Launcelot and Guinevere

This tragic story love is the most famous among all the legends of King Arthur. Launcelot fell in love with King Arthur's wife, and very soon they became lovers. When they were caught together, Launcelot managed to escape, but Guinevere was caught and sentenced to execution. Launcelot, who decided to save his beloved by his action, divided the knights into two camps and Arthur’s kingdom weakened. As a result, Launcelot became a hermit, and Guinevere a nun.

Trista and Isolde

This love story has been rewritten many times. Isolde, being the wife of King Mark, was Tristan's mistress. Having learned about this, Mark forgave Isolde, but he exiled Tristan from Cornwall forever.

Tristan went to Brittany and met a woman who looked like his beloved. The marriage was not happy, since his wife could not replace his Isolde. He fell ill and decided to send for Isolde. He agreed with the captain of the ship that, with her consent, he would put white sails on the ship, and if not, then black ones.

Tristan's wife told him that the sails on the ship were black and he died of grief. And when Isolde, who was on the ship, found out about his death, she died of a broken heart.

Paris and Helen

This love story is a Greek legend. But it is only half fiction. After Troy was destroyed, Helen was returned to Sparta and lived her life happily with Menelaus.

Napoleon and Josephine

Napoleon married Josephine at the age of 26. It was a marriage of convenience. But over time, he fell in love with her, and she with him. But that didn't stop them from cheating. But still they separated, since Josephine could not give birth to an heir to Napoleon. Until their last breath, they kept love and passion for each other.

Odysseus and Penelope

It was this Greek couple who understood the essence of sacrifice in a relationship. After they were separated, Penelope waited for Odysseus for 20 long years. True love is worth the wait.

On the eve of Valentine's Day, we decided to fight back against the cynics and remember a few romantic and funny stories about true love, which, no matter what anyone says, exists. Yes, love is like a toothache in the heart. But how nice...

Adam and Eve

The very first romantic couple in history still inspires... joke writers. For example, such as: “Dad, from whom did people come?” - “From Adam and Eve, son!” - “And the teacher says that from monkeys...” - “Well, what makes you think that monkeys couldn’t be called that?” or “Adam seduced Eve with the phrase: “Girlfriend, come to me, I have no ancestors...”

Admiral Kolchak and Anna Timireva

Alexander Kolchak was married and older than Anna at 19 years old, Anna was married. But, having fallen in love, she divorced her husband and became his common-law wife. “I love you more than that...” - he told her, and she followed him to prison, achieving “self-arrest”... When Kolchak was shot, Anna spent another 30 (!) years in prisons and camps.. .

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow- a pair of legendary American robbers who found their own way to fan the fire of love. Robberies, chases - as long as the passion does not fade away. Everything would have been fine if the extravagant couple had not “thrown people’s lives into the furnace” of their love by kissing over corpses. We should go to the morgue to hug each other instead of killing people...

Vysotsky and Vladi

By the age of 30, Marina already had everything. The 1st husband is famous (Geoffrey from “Angelica”), the 2nd husband is a pilot... It seemed so to her - until she saw Vysotsky at the Taganka Theater. Then she fell in love first with the voice - on the phone, then forever and completely. Their relationship was called the “Russian-French battle”, in which... both won.

Yesenin and Duncan

The extravagant dancer who came from the USA knew only 10 Russian words. Having met Yesenin, she whispered: “Angel,” looked into his eyes and corrected herself: “Tchort!” The poet and the dancer, who was 19 (!) years older than him, got together immediately and passionately. They fought, enraged secular society and never learned each other’s languages...

Master and Margarita

Our most popular romantic “book couple” (cynics, however, believe that this is Anna Karenina and a steam locomotive). There is an opinion that Bulgakov“wrote” Margarita with his Elena's wife, and the Master, accordingly, from himself (although his hero looks more like Gogol). But it was Elena, like Margarita, who anxiously fought for all his manuscripts...

Here is an example for modern young ladies who think that waiting a year for a guy to get out of the army is as unrealistic as then looking at his demobilization album with interest. Girls, take an example from Penelope! Odysseus left to fight almost immediately after the wedding, with one hand, so to speak, in his tailcoat - and she waited for him for 20 (!) years, rejecting 108 suitors!

Peter and Fevronia

Peter was the Prince of Murom, Fevronia was a simple girl, but not a simple one. She knew how to skillfully heal - she saved Peter from a snake bite with the words: “He will be healthy if I am his wife.” Peter, who had recovered, was in no hurry to get married and fell ill again. I realized it, got married, fell in love - so much so that when the spouses who died on the same day (!) were put in different coffins, the next morning they found themselves in one.

Pugacheva and Galkin

Let them write jokes about them like “ Nadezhda Babkina, Alla Pugacheva... Unlike Angelina Jolie our stars don’t adopt children, but... marry them” or “Little Maximka made his way to Pugacheva for an autograph: “Auntie, sign it!” “When you grow up, then we’ll sign!”, somehow the dirt doesn’t stick to them. Unless the castle in the village of Gryaz stuck...

Romeo and Juliet

They say that in the 1st Shakespearean edition, Mercutio called not “a plague on both your houses,” but... syphilis. They say that the Juliet balcony did not exist, just in the theater during the 1st production they used... what was left over from the previous performance. And yet the story of two lovers, which stopped the feud between families, does not fade, but still touches us.

Still from the film "Romeo and Juliet".
