Weather in Georgia by month with photos. When is the best time to go to Georgia? Holidays in Georgia in September, October on your own, reviews and tips Temperature in Georgia in autumn

Delicious national cuisine and wine flowing, beautiful ancient traditions, rich history and magnificent nature. Where to start if you are planning to go to ?

1. Flight and accommodation

From Ukraine to Georgia there are flights to Kutaisi, Tbilisi and Batumi.

1 /1

There are most flights to Tbilisi, and they are usually the most profitable. Tbilisi is an interesting ancient city, which is definitely worth spending a couple of days in. The regular cost of a flight Kyiv - Tbilisi when booking in advance is 110-150 euros in both directions.

Only UIA flies to Kutaisi and flight prices lately more expensive than in Tbilisi. Usually Kutaisi is used as a starting point for a trip: the town itself is small and people rarely stay here for more than a day.

Batumi is a resort city in Georgia. Tickets to Batumi are usually the most expensive, but summer period There is great deals for flights about 150 euros in both directions.

Housing prices in Georgia they are also more than acceptable.

Prices for hostels start from 5 euros per bed, and you can book a hotel in Georgia from 50 euros - 3 stars, and from 130 euros - 5 stars.

2. Why is autumn the best time to travel to Georgia?

Autumn holidays in Georgia are good for various reasons. Firstly, at this time of year it is no longer as hot as it is in the summer: average temperature in September-October it fluctuates between +25-27°C degrees, the sea is also warm enough (+25°C) to swim in it until the beginning of October. But in November it is already cooler (+15-20°C), and at night the temperature can even drop to +3-5°C. True, Georgian weather has one peculiarity - it is different in each region. And if, for example, it is sunny in Kakheti, this does not mean that it will be sunny for the neighbors too.

1 /1

Secondly, the decline begins in the fall tourist season. There are fewer people, and with it, housing prices are falling (which, you see, is very tempting). In addition, the autumn harvest in Georgia is the ideal time to get acquainted with the national Georgian cuisine closer. Grapes, fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts, new wine and grape juice, churchkhela - you can’t count it all!

1 /1

Well, and thirdly, autumn (especially October and November) is a very beautiful time in Georgia. If you want to admire the rich colors of the local nature, then you won’t find a better time to travel. You can go hiking in low mountains(Borjomi or Lagodekhi region). These places seem to be created for long walks along forest paths, and in the fall mushrooms and berries already appear, so you can successfully combine useful things with pleasant things. True, it is already noticeably colder in the evening and at night, so warm clothes will be useful.

3. When and for what to go?

So, if your trip is planned for September , consider yourself lucky! After all, in September Georgia turns into one huge winery, and, accordingly, Georgians massively get rid of the remains of old wine. How? They drink it, of course! Fun, with noisy feasts and beautiful toasts, as only they can do here. Go to the famous “wine” region of Kakheti: you will have the opportunity not only to participate in the process of preparing young wine (some wineries offer such excursions), but also to taste real Georgian wine, so to speak, first-hand.

1 /1

Be sure to soak up the coastline: the temperature in September is the most comfortable, there are not as many people as in August, so you can fully enjoy your vacation. Where to go? In a busy - for those for whom a vacation without company is still not a vacation. But if you are tired of society and want peace and quiet alone with nature, then the village of Chakvi is what you need. If you do get bored, nearby are the ruins of the ancient Petri fortress - there will be something to do in your spare time.

If you want to not only lie on the sand, but also spend time usefully, go to Kobuleti. Comfortable small-pebble beaches, developed infrastructure, low prices and establishments with national cuisine will do yours beach holiday as comfortable as possible, and clubs and bars pleasantly diversify your pastime. But the main advantage of Kobuleti is its healing mineral springs, are located a few kilometers from the resort. Of the beaches, it is worth highlighting Sarpi (a suburb of Batumi) - for clean sand and sea. True, for experienced tourists accustomed to European beach standards, there will not be enough entertainment here.

1 /1

Ureki is the famous black beaches with healing magnetite sand and cleanest air, filled with the aromas of pine and eucalyptus. The resort is ideal for families with children, as the shallow water here stretches 300 meters from the shore.

In addition to beaches and tasting local wine in September, Georgia can offer interesting cultural program. In Tbilisi, for example, the Tbilisi Photo Festival will be held on September 16-22. The Batumi Music Festival is taking place from September 2 to 9, 2017. From October 17 to 24 – Art-house Film Festival in Batumi.

For those whose trip falls on October Georgia has also prepared a lot of interesting things. Thus, on October 19-23, 2017, the traditional Fashion Week will be held, and on October 11, film lovers will be able to enjoy their favorite art to their hearts’ content at the festival documentaries Cine Doc (Tbilisi).

Georgia in October is, first of all, 2 big holidays: Orthodox holiday Svetitskhovloba (Festival of the Robe of the Lord) and Tbilisobu (holiday of the city of Tbilisi and the new harvest). Festive services are held in churches these days, so if time permits, you can attend one of them.

1 /1

Unlike October, november - the most unpredictable autumn month in terms of weather. So don’t be surprised if Georgia in November, following warm sunny days, suddenly presents you with rainy and cloudy days. To prevent weather “mood swings” from spoiling your vacation, it is better to stock up on a raincoat and warm clothes and shoes in advance (it is better to choose the latter and comfortable ones if you plan to explore local country locations).

In November, it is preferable to travel to Kakheti, Borjomi, along the coast, since they are at a lower altitude relative to sea level, which makes the climate there optimal for recreation. But in the mountains at this time significant snowfalls and deterioration are already possible. weather conditions- it’s worth keeping this in mind if you are going to conquer the Georgian peaks.

4. What is a must see in Georgia?

There are so many interesting things in Georgia that you definitely won’t have time to visit everything in one trip (of course, if you don’t go there for a year). That's why you'll probably find it useful short list must-see those places, without visiting which you cannot say that you have met Georgia. So, what and where should you pay attention to first?

- this is the Narikala fortress and Old town at its foot, as if straight out of a fairy-tale illustration. Also - Abanotubani (sulfur baths) and the symbol of Tbilisi - the Metekhi temple on the opposite bank of the Kura from the baths. While walking around the city, don’t forget about Rustaveli Avenue, or rather the funny miniature sculptures that adorn the main street of the capital. But if you are traveling with children, be sure to take them to the amusement park at the top of Mount Mtatsminda - your time will definitely not be wasted!

1 /1

If you feel cramped in the capital, pay attention to one of the most picturesque routes in the country, which stretches from Tbilisi to the foot of Mount Kazbek. The Georgian Military Road features stunningly beautiful landscapes, a medieval fortress and temple in Ananuri, a breathtaking gorge near Gudauri and the Gergeti Church with its famous views of Kazbek.

Mtskheta

The ancient capital and the holiest (well, or one of the holiest) place for Georgians. This small town, 20 km from the center of Tbilisi, is famous for the fact that there are three objects at once World Heritage UNESCO: cathedral Svetitskhoveli, the monastery of St. Nino and the tiny monastery of Jvari, picturesquely rising on a high cliff at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers.

My girlfriend and I were in Georgia in October. We flew by plane, didn’t book anything in advance, and, of course, preferred backpacks to suitcases.

Upon arrival in Batumi, there was nothing but a taxi, so we decided to walk to the city. We reached the embankment in about an hour, met the dawn there and set off to wander in search of housing. Dawn upon arrival:

Options for 70-100 bucks were not very suitable, we were just about to stomp into the hostel when we were practically grabbed by the hands and led to a cozy 2-room apartment 5 minutes from the embankment, almost opposite the Sheraton. We paid something like $20-25 per night for two people.

We hung out in Batumi for 2 or 3 days, went to the botanical garden (all day), admired the fountains (I liked the ones at Radisson’s better) and even went swimming. We had lunch in a semi-basement khinkal restaurant 2 minutes from the apartment - terribly tasty, terribly filling, at prices the same as everywhere else. Dinner - mushrooms in Suluguni on kets:

We are going to Vardzia through Adjara

But in Georgia, things often don’t happen as planned. There were no direct flights to Akhaltsikhe, we were advised to go to Khulo and change there to Akhaltsikhe. A few hours along the picturesque serpentine road and here we are in Khulo. It turned out that there would be no minibuses across the pass today. Okay, we decided to hitchhike. It's late afternoon, there aren't many cars. The minibus stops, passengers from the front seats climb into the back and ride standing, best places for guests. The driver drives only to the pass (and for us it’s a good distance further), and says that most likely there won’t be any cars today. This is how we become his guests. This is what our movements around the country looked like:

Ednar is over 40, lives in the small village of Dinosparauli with his wife, 3 children and parents. We spend the whole evening communicating with the whole family (only Ednar himself remembers Russian - the parents have already forgotten, and the children don’t even learn), we eat amazingly delicious homemade food and drink about 5 one and a half liter jugs of white homemade wine(they don’t really like red - if you drink a lot of it, you get blood clots and a headache in the morning).
In the morning Ednar doesn’t want to let us go, he tells us to live with him as long as we want and in general there’s a wedding in the village on the weekend. But we need to go - the whole of Georgia is still ahead.

By lunchtime we arrive in Akhaltsikhe

I didn’t like the town at all, but we needed to catch our breath for a while and develop a further plan, so we stayed there for 1 night. We lived in a large Soviet-era hotel, quite inexpensive. The next morning we took a minibus to Vardzia.

The cave city is simply amazing, we climbed around it for about 3 hours. In the evening we went down and had dinner in the monastery cafe, washed down with red monastery wine, which the monk himself brought us. We spent the night in a brand new hotel across the road, which was also not expensive. In the morning we had breakfast where we spent the night, boarded the excursion minibus and left for Borjomi.

Trek to the Atskur fortress in the village of Tmogvi (located between Akhaltsikhi and Bozhomi):

The city where the famous mineral water is produced

Borjomi had the most intelligent tourist information service. Right from the door, we were asked where we were from, what languages we spoke, and in what price range we needed housing. Having received the answers, the employee quickly called several numbers and said that they would come for us in 5 minutes, but in the meantime he would tell us everything and show us on the map. He gave me his number and told me to call with any questions.
A sincere guy came to pick us up in a white Niva, 2 minutes drive - and here we are. Our chambers are a rather large room with a separate entrance and bathroom. Price - maybe $25-30, I don’t remember exactly. We looked around and walked around the center. The next morning we went for a ride on the Borjomi-Bakuriani narrow-gauge railway.

We talked with the guide - he told us about the history of the road much better than any guide. Moreover, they tell it because you will give money, but this one says so, out of friendship. The road is very beautiful and interesting, but we decided to go down by minibus (cuckoo 3 hours, minibus 30 minutes). We rested a bit and went to Borjomi park. For a couple of lars we climbed the cable car to the top of the observation mountain, then drank hot Borjomi straight from the tap (the taste is very different from the one in the bottles), and then we walked another 2 kilometers along the gorge, already outside the park territory, and found ourselves near the pool with Borjomi. Worth it. in the middle of the mountains outdoor pool 20x30 meters and hot water pours into it mineral water. During the season, they say there is no crowd there, but in mid-October, besides us, there was only one family with small children from Tbilisi.

Visit to the capital of Georgia

The next day we boarded the train and went to Tbilisi via Gori. According to the plan, it was planned to come to Gori, go to the Stalin Museum and explore the fortress, and in the evening we were supposed to be picked up by some familiar filmmakers from Tbilisi - they were just returning home by car and passing through Gori in the evening. But we took a long time to get ready, miscalculated the train, and ended up getting to Gori when it was already dark. We managed to look at the fortress wall in the distance, got into the car and left for Tbilisi.

I’ll say right away that in the end I didn’t like Tbilisi - in this place I least of all felt like I was in Georgia. We lived in a hostel right on Rustaveli, the accommodation was the most expensive of the trip - $40 for a double room (2 beds pushed together and 50 centimeters of passage on each side). There seems to be a lot to see in the city, but the walks themselves do not bring such pleasure as in Batumi. We were based in Tbilisi for 3 days.

Excursion to Stepantsminda and the Trinity Church on the mountain

On the evening of the first day, a familiar filmmaker at dinner cursed the phrase - and tomorrow we are on film business by car in Kazbegi and we just have 2 free seats. Naturally we agreed. We arrived in a Honda CRV in about 4 hours. In Kazbegi we switched to a more serious car - a Toyota Land Cruiser with a driver who dragged us up to Gergeti. Our filmmakers came here to negotiate with local monks to film the film on their territory. The mountains there, of course, are easy to settle down there - pretty cool.

Gergeti. Views of Kazbeg:

We walked around the Trinity Church in Gergeti for about 2 hours, the filmmakers decided on their business, and went downstairs in the jeep again. We got into a Honda, drove off a little and went into the hinkalaya to celebrate successful negotiations. That’s when I first saw what I had already heard a lot about at that time - how much khinkali a Georgian can eat in an evening. Before that, my record was 9, and when they brought us 2 huge plates for 5 people (4 men and a girl), totaling probably 100 pieces, I thought that half would be left. Where there, they still ordered more. For some reason they drank vodka, on the way back I passed out as soon as I got into the car and woke up only at the threshold of the hostel.

Visit to Mtskheta

The next day we took a minibus to Mtskheta. We looked at the churches, wanted to go warm up (it was a rainy day), but a taxi driver insisted on taking us up the mountain to the Jvari monastery. At first they didn’t give in, but when he named the price equal to the price of a bottle of the cheapest factory wine, they agreed. And they didn’t regret it! Really a place of power.

We went back to Mtskheta and again visited the locals. They said that they used to have a crooked, crumbling house, and then when the whole of Mtskheta was rebuilt, rebuilt, restored, their house was brought into exemplary condition completely free of charge, like everyone else.

From Tbilisi we returned to Batumi by night reserved seat. I can't say I liked the train. The occupancy rate is 100%, the cars are a cross between UZ and BC, the price tag is noticeably higher than at home. The remaining time in Batumi we relaxed, drank wine, lay on the pebbles, and walked along the boulevard.

Photos of the botanical garden in Batumi, unfortunately they do not convey its real beauty and scale:

On the last day, whoever you thought came - our hospitable Ednar. He combined a business trip with seeing us again and taking us for a walk around Batumi. Cognac under the moonlight on the embankment, intimate conversations and a carriage ride.

We departed from Batumi exactly 2 weeks after arrival. For everything together with tickets and souvenirs they paid about 1.2-1.3 thousand for two.

In mid-November there is a golden autumn in Adjara

Conclusion

Thus, the weather in Georgia (and especially in Adjara), as elsewhere, is unpredictable. For example, in 2011 there was no snow in the mountains, and in 2015 it snowed even in Batumi in March, when the gardens in Tbilisi were already blooming.

The summer of 2015 and summer of 2016 were rainy in Adjara, but in the fall it was hot and the sun shone more often. The winter of 2016 became unusually cold and snowy for Batumi; in the spring the weather was also changeable.

The ideal time for a seaside holiday is June and September. There are a lot of people in July and August, but the sea is warm.

It is better to go to the mountains in the Kazbegi region and to Svaneti for the sake of beautiful scenery and camping with a tent from May to mid-October (golden autumn). If you want to see golden autumn in November, then go to the highlands of Adjara.

In winter, the Georgian Military Road may be closed due to avalanches and landslides. Take this fact into account and check the weather on the Georgian Military Road on the day of your trip. Also in winter, the minibus to Mestia (Svaneti) may be canceled.

You can explore Tbilisi at any time of the year, but in July and August it is very hot and stuffy, and in December and January it can rain or snow.
