Alexander Druz is one of the most charismatic and even odious personalities in the entire history of the elite club.

An outstanding scholar, a living legend, a true leader - these are just some of the epithets that this player was awarded.

But to truly understand this expert, you should pay attention to his biography as a whole, and not just the facts related to the TV game “What? Where? When?".

Alexander was born in Leningrad, graduated from secondary school No. 47 named after K.D. Ushinsky there. Then the future star entered the Industrial Pedagogical College of Vocational Education.

But he didn’t stop there and in 1975 he became a student at the Leningrad Institute of Engineers railway transport named after academician V. N. Obraztsov. Exactly five years later, Alexander left the walls of this university with a diploma in the specialty “Computers”.

Friends' debut in the program “What? Where? When?" took place in 1981. It should be noted that from that moment on, Alexander never took a break from participating, which is an unprecedented fact and a kind of club record.

Oddly enough, young Druz was distinguished by his emotionality and even lack of restraint. These facts are supported by the fact that in 1982 he became the first player to be disqualified for tipping.

In 1990, Alexander Druz was recognized as the best player of the series for the first time and received the Crystal Owl. Then he was awarded this statuette 5 more times.

Alexander was also found by the “Diamond Owl” - with it he was awarded as the best expert of the club in 2011. A significant fact in Alexander’s career as a member of the elite club is that in 1995 he became the first master of this TV game!

Druz was also featured in the sports version of “What? Where? When?”, taking first place with the Troyard team at the 1st World Championship in 2002.

Being the captain of the same team, he Won the Governor's Cup of St. Petersburg 9 times in a row. On this moment he is one of 11 players who have taken part in all official world championships in the sports world championship.

Special attention should be paid to Alexander’s participation in another intellectual game, popular all over the world - brain ring.

At first he participated in its television version, namely in the 1991-1994 seasons.

Then there was big break, But in 2009, Druz returned to this game again.

It was then that he performed for the first time as an invited member of the Nikita Mobile TeTe team at the national championship of Uzbekistan.

Druz also has a performance for the British national team in the Nations Cup “What? Where? When?".

But that's not all. Like many players of the intellectual club Alexander tried himself in the TV show “Own Game”. Here he became a champion several times, and also set one of the main records, managing to earn 120,001 rubles in one game.

Besides everything else, this mastodon “What? Where? When?" He is the author of various television shows and he himself is an interesting host of the “Hour of Truth” program.

This project is aired on the 365 Days TV channel and tells the viewer about interesting facts of world history.

In parallel with this, he is the head of programs on the STO-TV channel.

Alexander’s biography also includes a page dedicated to his own business.

For example, in 2007 he opened the company Stroy-Azhio, then in 2011 - Trans-Agio.

True, just a year after registering the second company, Druz decides to sell them - time for development own business the intellectual had none at all.

The famous connoisseur makes no secret about his personal life.

He has been married since 1978, his wife’s name is Elena. And with future wife I met my friend in first grade!

True, the romance began only at 10, but in any case, they have known each other for a very, very long time.

The couple had two daughters - Inna and Marina. Interesting fact- both girls are also experts in “What? Where? When?" and even received a Crystal Owl.

Excerpt characterizing Friends, Alexander Abramovich

"What is this? I'm falling? My legs are giving way,” he thought and fell on his back. He opened his eyes, hoping to see how the fight between the French and the artillerymen ended, and wanting to know whether the red-haired artilleryman was killed or not, whether the guns were taken or saved. But he didn't see anything. There was nothing above him anymore except the sky - high sky, not clear, but still immeasurably high, with gray clouds quietly creeping along it. “How quiet, calm and solemn, not at all like how I ran,” thought Prince Andrei, “not like how we ran, shouted and fought; It’s not at all like how the Frenchman and the artilleryman pulled each other’s banners with embittered and frightened faces - not at all like how the clouds crawl across this high endless sky. How come I haven’t seen this high sky before? And how happy I am that I finally recognized him. Yes! everything is empty, everything is deception, except this endless sky. There is nothing, nothing, except him. But even that is not there, there is nothing but silence, calm. And thank God!…"

On Bagration’s right flank at 9 o’clock the business had not yet begun. Not wanting to agree to Dolgorukov’s demand to start the business and wanting to deflect responsibility from himself, Prince Bagration suggested that Dolgorukov be sent to ask the commander-in-chief about this. Bagration knew that, due to the distance of almost 10 versts separating one flank from the other, if the one sent was not killed (which was very likely), and even if he found the commander-in-chief, which was very difficult, the sent one would not have time to return earlier evenings.
Bagration looked around at his retinue with his large, expressionless, sleep-deprived eyes, and Rostov’s childish face, involuntarily frozen with excitement and hope, was the first to catch his eye. He sent it.
- What if I meet His Majesty before the Commander-in-Chief, Your Excellency? - said Rostov, holding his hand to the visor.
“You can hand it over to your Majesty,” Dolgorukov said, hastily interrupting Bagration.
Having been released from the chain, Rostov managed to sleep for several hours before the morning and felt cheerful, courageous, decisive, with that elasticity of movements, confidence in his happiness and in that mood in which everything seems easy, fun and possible.
All his wishes were fulfilled that morning; a general battle was fought, he took part in it; Moreover, he was an orderly under the bravest general; Moreover, he was traveling on an errand to Kutuzov, and perhaps even to the sovereign himself. The morning was clear, the horse under him was good. His soul was joyful and happy. Having received the order, he set off his horse and galloped along the line. At first he rode along the line of Bagration’s troops, which had not yet entered into action and stood motionless; then he entered the space occupied by Uvarov’s cavalry and here he already noticed movements and signs of preparations for the case; Having passed Uvarov's cavalry, he already clearly heard the sounds of cannon and gunfire ahead of him. The shooting intensified.
In the fresh morning air, two, three shots and then one or two shots were heard, not as before at irregular intervals. gun shot, and along the slopes of the mountains, in front of Pratzen, the rolling sounds of gunfire were heard, interrupted by such frequent shots from guns that sometimes several cannon shots were no longer separated from each other, but merged into one common roar.
It was visible how the smoke of the guns seemed to run along the slopes, catching up with each other, and how the smoke of the guns swirled, blurred and merged with one another. Visible, from the shine of the bayonets between the smoke, were the moving masses of infantry and narrow strips of artillery with green boxes.
Rostov stopped his horse on a hill for a minute to examine what was happening; but no matter how hard he strained his attention, he could neither understand nor make out anything of what was happening: some people were moving there in the smoke, some canvases of troops were moving both in front and behind; but why? Who? Where? it was impossible to understand. This sight and these sounds not only did not arouse in him any dull or timid feeling, but, on the contrary, gave him energy and determination.
“Well, more, give it more!” - He turned mentally to these sounds and again began to gallop along the line, penetrating further and further into the area of the troops who had already entered into action.
“I don’t know how it will be there, but everything will be fine!” thought Rostov.
Having passed some Austrian troops, Rostov noticed that the next part of the line (it was the guard) had already entered into action.
"All the better! I’ll take a closer look,” he thought.
He drove almost along the front line. Several horsemen galloped towards him. These were our life lancers, who were returning from the attack in disordered ranks. Rostov passed them, involuntarily noticed one of them covered in blood and galloped on.
“I don’t care about this!” he thought. Before he had ridden a few hundred steps after this, to his left, across the entire length of the field, a huge mass of cavalrymen on black horses, in shiny white uniforms, appeared, trotting straight towards him. Rostov put his horse into full gallop in order to get out of the way of these cavalrymen, and he would have gotten away from them if they had kept the same gait, but they kept speeding up, so that some horses were already galloping. Rostov heard their stomping and the clanking of their weapons more and more clearly, and their horses, figures, and even faces became more visible. These were our cavalry guards, going into an attack on the French cavalry, which was moving towards them.
The cavalry guards galloped, but still holding their horses. Rostov already saw their faces and heard the command: “march, march!” uttered by an officer who unleashed his blood horse at full speed. Rostov, fearing to be crushed or lured into an attack on the French, galloped along the front as fast as his horse could, and still did not manage to get past them.
The last cavalry guard, a huge, pockmarked man, frowned angrily when he saw Rostov in front of him, with whom he would inevitably collide. This cavalry guard would certainly have knocked down Rostov and his Bedouin (Rostov himself seemed so small and weak in comparison with these huge people and horses), if he had not thought of swinging his whip into the eyes of the cavalry guard's horse. The black, heavy, five-inch horse shied away, laying down its ears; but the pockmarked cavalry guard thrust huge spurs into her sides, and the horse, waving its tail and stretching its neck, rushed even faster. As soon as the cavalry guards passed Rostov, he heard them shout: “Hurray!” and looking back he saw that their front ranks were mingling with strangers, probably French, cavalrymen in red epaulets. It was impossible to see anything further, because immediately after that, cannons began firing from somewhere, and everything was covered in smoke.
At that moment, as the cavalry guards, having passed him, disappeared into the smoke, Rostov hesitated whether to gallop after them or go where he needed to go. This was that brilliant attack of the cavalry guards, which surprised the French themselves. Rostov was scared to hear later that out of all this mass of huge handsome people, out of all these brilliant, rich young men on thousands of horses, officers and cadets who galloped past him, after the attack only eighteen people remained.
“Why should I envy, what is mine will not go away, and now, perhaps, I will see the sovereign!” thought Rostov and rode on.
Having caught up with the guards infantry, he noticed that cannonballs were flying through and around them, not so much because he heard the sound of cannonballs, but because he saw concern on the faces of the soldiers and unnatural, warlike solemnity on the faces of the officers.
Driving behind one of the lines of infantry guard regiments, he heard a voice calling him by name.
- Rostov!
- What? – he responded, not recognizing Boris.
- What is it like? hit the first line! Our regiment went on the attack! - said Boris, smiling that happy smile that happens to young people who have been on fire for the first time.
Rostov stopped.
- That's how it is! - he said. - Well?
- They recaptured! - Boris said animatedly, having become talkative. - You can imagine?
And Boris began to tell how the guard, having taken their place and seeing the troops in front of them, mistook them for Austrians and suddenly learned from the cannonballs fired from these troops that they were in the first line, and unexpectedly had to take action. Rostov, without listening to Boris, touched his horse.

Alexander Druz is a man whom probably everyone knew in the nineties. This outstanding polymath was a living legend of the “What? Where? When?" and the undisputed leader of this intelligent casino. The number of games he has played is close to a hundred, and his awards include 6 crystal owls and one diamond owl.

Childhood and family of Alexander Druz

Alexander Druz was born into an ordinary Leningrad family. Both of his parents were Jews by nationality, and therefore (as trite as it may seem) already from early childhood Sasha grew up surrounded by books and heavy volumes. Although it cannot be said that this state of affairs in any way interfered with the young guy. While still in elementary school, he began to avidly read various literary works, study encyclopedias, greedily absorbing a variety of interesting knowledge. Despite the fact that in many biographical texts dedicated to Alexander Druz one can find messages that in early age The future “expert” dreamed of becoming a sailor and firefighter; the facts point to a completely different state of affairs.

Throughout the life of the legendary polymath, his main passion remained knowledge. So, while still a student primary classes Leningrad secondary school No. 47, Alexander began to participate in various competitions and shows. In particular, it is known for certain that already at the age of nine (!) our today's hero won his first prize - a book by Vladimir Maximov, given to him as a reward for winning at the evening interesting questions in a Ukrainian holiday home.

After that victory, others followed. Thus, Alexander repeatedly won competitions in his home school, and in the tenth grade he even became the winner of the prestigious quiz “You are a Leningrader,” in which teenagers were tested on their knowledge of their home city.

In one of his interviews, Alexander Druz quite succinctly explained this a large number of various competitions and intellectual quizzes remaining behind him. “I’ve never been afraid to seem stupid,” the legendary polymath said when asked how he was able to achieve so many victories on various forums. And here it’s difficult to add anything else.

Star Trek by Alexander Druz

Having received a diploma about higher education, Alexander Druz started working as a systems engineer. However, quite soon the real work for him became performances in the program “What? Where? When?”, which was broadcast on USSR Central Television. As part of this television show (if you can call it that), the legendary polymath first appeared in 1981, leaving behind many other pre-selection participants. As the “expert” himself recalls, he sent an application to be included in this television project back in April 1980, but only a year later the editors of the program invited Alexander to participate in the selection of participants. The friend passed a strict selection process. And soon he became a full-fledged participant in the television show.

It is quite remarkable that a year later Alexander added another “achievement” to his credit, becoming the first participant in the project to be removed from the audience for tips.

Alexander Druz did not answer the questions of the honey seller

However, this small “feat”, of course, is not the only significant achievement this legendary expert. During his long career in the club “What? Where? When?" our today's hero won 46 games (out of 74 programs), and was also recognized as the best expert based on the results of 1990, 1992, 1995, 2000, 2006 and 2012. In 1995, the player became the first “expert” to be awarded the title of Master of Intellectual Casino. In 2011, Alexander also became the winner of the honorary “Diamond Owl” prize, awarded to the best players in the program.

But, despite such dizzying success, Alexander Druz always thirsted for more. In fact, having made such performances his main source of income, the “expert” began to actively participate in other intellectual projects. So, our today’s hero’s credits include performances on such prestigious projects as “Brain Ring” (victories in 1990, 1991, 1994 and 2010) and “Own Game”. Besides, in different years Alexander Druz also took part in various projects outside of Russia. In particular, the famous polymath was noted in intellectual projects carried out in Uzbekistan, Israel and Ukraine. Looking at full list victories of the famous “expert”, it seems that it is simply impossible to list them all.

Business of Alexander Druz

In addition to participating in designated projects for a long time Alexander Druz was also involved in business and owned two companies - Trans-Azhio and Stroy-Azhio. Both specified organizations have been significant players in the building materials market for a long time. Alexander was forced to sell the company only in 2012 due to the crisis that broke out in this industry.

Currently, Alexander Druz is the head of the St. Petersburg representative office of “What? Where? When?”, as well as the most titled participant in the history of games.

Personal life of Alexander Druz

Alexander Druz has been married to a woman named Elena almost all his life. In marriage with her, the famous “expert” had two daughters - Inna and Marina. Each of them, in different years, just like their father, successfully performed in the project “What? Where? When?" (each of them has a “Crystal Owl” to its credit).

In 2008 and 2011 eldest daughter Inna gave Alexander two granddaughters - Alisa and Alina. Thus, at the moment, Druz Sr. is already a grandfather.

In February 2019, Druz was at the center of a bribery scandal. Chief Editor program “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Ilya Ber announced that the titled ChGK expert tried to offer him money for answering the game’s questions, which would allow him to win 3 million rubles. As evidence, he provided an audio recording of the conversation. However, Alexander denied the accusations, saying that everything was exactly the opposite: Behr offered to provide him with the correct answers in exchange for a percentage of the amount won. “The voice on the recording is really mine, I decided to play along with it,” Druz commented on the recording. This was confirmed by his colleague at ChGK Viktor Sidnev, who played with Alexander in that very episode.

Druz and Sidnev in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Entire issue.

According to Sidnev, Behr told them the answers to the first questions, but before filming both agreed not to agree to the offer and not to win under any circumstances Grand Prize and act according to the circumstances, and after filming is completed, tell the management of “Millionaires” about everything. Starting from the tenth, the questions were no longer the ones to which Ber provided the answers. The experts responded on their own. Answer to last question turned out to be wrong, but, as it turned out, Druz knew the answer to it, but let Sidnev answer incorrectly so as not to win. Victor believes that the purpose of all this fraud was to discredit Druz.

If the correct answers to tricky questions were not the basis of intellectual shows, but a way of earning money, Alexander Druz would be included in the peculiar lists of rich people who made a fortune in this way. For his ability to find a way out of hopeless situations, he was awarded the “Diamond Owl” and six “Crystal Owls,” the main prizes of the game. Druz is one of the first “immortal” players of the club and the first holder of the Master title.

Childhood and youth

Alexander was born on May 10, 1955 in Leningrad into a Jewish family. His father served on a submarine, later taught, his mother is a nurse. But this did not stop the boy from fighting, playing football, breaking prohibitions and going swimming in ponds.

Favorite activities Alexandra spends her free time reading. He himself wrote a children's book about the adventures of a cat and a girl, “Enya, Thomas and Others,” and a guide to St. Petersburg.

It was at that time that the film crew invited viewers to apply to participate in the television club. I graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Railway Transport Engineers, wrote a diploma, was free time. And I wanted to try myself. Besides, it was interesting how TV shows are made. Wrote a letter. The answer came a few months later, when I had already forgotten about it. I passed the selection...
