Climate and weather in Tenerife in January: weather, holidays and prices in winter

Island eternal spring, which is what Tenerife is often called, is always beautiful. Everything is always in bloom here, it’s always warm and almost always sunny. Why is it almost always sunny? Yes, just in winter months Precipitation is possible over the island, and in general, the weather in Tenerife in January 2020 is the coolest for the entire year. The water temperature in the first month of the year does not rise above twenty degrees Celsius, and the air is warmed up to +17, which is excellent for walks and excursions, but not suitable for beach holidays and swimming in the ocean.

However, January is one of the months when there are a lot of tourists on the island. There is only one reason: Christmas and New Year holidays in most countries of the world. Agree, many will agree to relax in a place where it’s +17 during the day, and not where it’s minus seventeen. And tourists are not even bothered by the fact that swimming is not allowed; they are attracted by the availability of tours in Tenerife at this time of year.

We'll talk about prices and availability later, but for now it's better to pay attention to the weather. As already written above, during the day the thermometer stays at +17 degrees. Of course, this is not the best temperature for the region, but everything is better than the severe frosts in Russia. Although sometimes the sun is a little more active and warms the air to +22 degrees. But even on these rare days there is no desire to swim, since the blowing wind is not very pleasant, and sometimes cold.

As darkness falls, the temperature drops. Local climate and geographical position The island does not allow the air to cool to sub-zero temperatures or even zero, so at night it is about +12 +15 degrees. There are almost no sudden temperature changes at night, so you shouldn’t expect frosts or, conversely, warmer nights. Walks in evening time possible, but you should wear warmer clothes to feel more comfortable. Better yet, spend the evenings in restaurants or other establishments where there will be no wind and the weather outside will be clearly warmer.
The ocean off the coast of Tenerife rarely changes its temperature. It is extremely difficult to warm up or, on the contrary, freeze such a quantity of water. In January the water here will be +20 +22 degrees. For comparison, the warmest sea in this area occurs in September and it warms up to +24 degrees. But in September the weather is different during the day, about +30 degrees Celsius, so you can swim here in the fall, but almost not in the winter. Plus, in the middle of winter, winds that blow from all sides raise waves on the sea. For surfers, this is a paradise, but ordinary tourists can only watch how at least someone enjoys the sea.

The daylight hours are starting to increase little by little. At the beginning of the month it was 10.4 hours, and at the end it was about 10.8 hours. Of course, the increase is not so significant, but you need to know where Tenerife is geographically and everything will become clear by itself.
There are 31 days in January and 18 of them will be sunny. 18 is the average figure calculated from observations over the past five years. Also, if we take these observations, we can say that 1-2 days this month are rainy. It turns out that for about 10 days there is simply cloudy weather, when there is no precipitation, but there is no sun either.
As for precipitation, its amount is 26 millimeters per month. This is not a lot and when compared with two months earlier, it is a mere trifle.

Weather features in Tenerife in January

In January, Tenerife is warmer than Mallorca. It’s not for nothing that the island is called the island of eternal spring. Rainfall mainly occurs in the northern part of Tenerife and this is where the main vegetation grows. In the north of the island, at any time of the year, there are huge banana groves, vineyards, dates and other forests.
The island is not the largest, but its area is impressive. But this is not the main thing, but the main thing is that the weather in different regions of Tenerife is completely different. For example, if somewhere the sky is cloudy, then on the other side of the island at the same time the sun is shining and warming tourists. The same applies to cloudy weather. At the same time, in different places on the island there may be sun all day, or the sky may be covered with thick clouds.

At the beginning of January, the dream of several came true recent years- we flew away to warm holiday in winter. Far from our weather and our people if you know what I mean. For a whole week! Happiness :)

Now a lot of time has passed, I may not remember the exact numbers and sequence of events. Let this be a post for memory in general. Here are collected photos from Instagram, VKontakte, something from the bins of the phone. That’s why I prepared the post for so long - until you collect everything and write it down... And I wanted to schematically describe the trip, but it turned out to be a whole canvas :)

Preparation.
At first, I wanted to carefully prepare for the trip - lists of what I wanted to see, renting a car in advance, etc. But Igor was so depressed in anticipation of this trip (“Why didn’t Pervalka please you?” his eyes seemed to ask every time I started talking about the imminent! imminent! trip) that I gave up on everything. Or rather, of course, I read a little about the island, literally outlined places of desire. On the island itself, Igor came to life, we bought several excursions and rented a car. All without fanaticism and super-control, that is, in the relaxation mode “oh come on? - come on!”. And in general, I saw everything I wanted! And what I saw struck me to the very depths of my soul.

Photo to attract attention. One of my favorite places: the black sand of De la Arena Beach.

Departure was around 7.30. It was just severely frosty, I’ll also write this for memory. And although I chose Tenerife based on the principle of “mild climate change taking into account the Lithuanian winter,” everything worked out As always - and we flew to +23 from -20.
The plane arrived on time, there were about 180 people on board, that is, the plane was large.
On the way to the airport we stopped by to visit friends, I gave them my car to use during our absence, for which they drove us to the plane in it, and then met us a week later.

The flight was scheduled to last about 6 hours. In fact, we flew on 9, because there was a strong headwind, we had to land in Malaga for refueling and all that.
This is a photo from a magazine on board. Why, I’m still laughing at the imagination of advertisers)))

There were a lot of children on the plane. Minimum 12 from infants to 3 years old, then older, so they did not shine.
And in general, no one screamed or became hysterical. Beauty. At some point, the children all tumbled out into the aisle (except for the infants) and began to play on their own. Everyone had a lot of toys. The adults in the chairs closest to the aisle were as sympathetic as they wished; some even played with other people’s children. And in general, everyone reacted very loyally to the children.
I’ll show Bob, I won’t show other people’s children (all these immunities privacy and so on).

In general, we flew and flew. I'm 27 weeks pregnant. The only inconvenience is that I want to somehow sit less or lie down altogether. But overall it's ok.
We've arrived. During the landing, the pilot says, “+13 overboard.” I don't know why he said that. You see, I promised Igor that it would be warm, but here it’s almost like Pervalka. And I don’t really care, the main thing is that it’s not -20, but I told my husband so much about this paradise in the middle of winter, and here it’s +13!
The doors of the plane open, we go out along the ramp, well, there is wind on the runway. And it was so warm, so dry and smelled of salt that I just cried. I remember this wind, this taste of warmth right after winter.
Crying, of course, was not the point there, although I can do anything, so I walked around with tears in my eyes for another 2 or 3 hours, when we had already had lunch at the hotel. Happiness to the point of tears, just imagine.

At the airport we were met by the managers of the thesis tour, the weight of the plane tree. They put us on the bus. And we are in sweaters and winter shoes. And we can’t take off our sweaters. We've taken off our jackets, but we can't put on sweatshirts - we can't raise our hands. And everyone around is in T-shirts and shorts, the temperature is +22! And we are in sweaters, and I cry and shake Igor by the sleeve every 10 seconds, “look! look!”

And there are some incredible cacti on two floors, red and black sandy soil, black roads with white markings!

Then I look - ahead is Teide, a volcano. Such a mountain. I only saw the mountains on the Black Sea and don’t remember my impressions. I only understand that everything is different here. Something sharper and more contrasting. And Igor was like: oh, palm trees.
That is, for example, he has never seen palm trees on the streets.

We arrived, the streets are narrow, endless roundabouts (tiny in diameter), everything is so tiny and non-horizontal. And I’m still looking through the rainbow of tears that have flowed...

This is roughly the view from the bedroom and bath of our room: the houses are up, and behind them in the distance is the Teide volcano.

We were checked in an hour after arriving at the hotel. That is, it was like. We left our things in the storage room and went to the restaurant for lunch, it was just that time.
We arrived and there was a buffet there. Well, of course we pounced! Because I want to try everything wild!
As a result, I don’t know how many times I went to add paprika rings to myself, they were so juicy and thick, it was crazy!
Then we checked into the apartment - two rooms (living room + bedroom), a bathroom with a bathtub and a large balcony.

We're waiting for dinner.

This is a view from the balcony of the hotel grounds at dawn, slightly to the left of the previous photo.

On the day of arrival we ate, then slept nap for a long time, then I don’t remember what we did, then we ate again. And immediately after dinner they fell back to sleep.
The difference between Vilns and Tenerife is 2 hours, not in our favor, that is, our child is used to going to bed at 21, add to this the early rise in the morning, a difficult flight, and climate change. And finally, dinner, so that after it we can go to bed. But dinner ends only at 19, which is 21 Vilnius time! We barely survived to sleep at night, in short.

The next morning we woke up before 5am. We got up. It was drizzling and it was slightly chilly. We hung out in the room and went to the very opening of the restaurant for breakfast.

Well, why don’t I take a photo of my food?!

There is a long heated table with hot dishes. Vegetable part.

I also took pictures of the meat one, but for some reason I can’t find the photo.
I must say that the food there is very tasty. The cuisine is European classic, very varied, every evening they prepared something specific. For example, it was evening Chinese food- the cook is standing there and right in front of you, shush-shukh, prepares everything! Or grill evening. Or seafood cuisine.
Fruits and vegetables, of course, always.
Fresh. Well, I swept away tons of it all.

A few days later, when we were finally able to try almost everything from these tables, we saw that they bake pancakes for breakfast here! And from then on, for breakfast they began to eat only oatmeal, pancakes with jam, and Bob always took a boiled egg in a stand. After returning home he was still for a long time He demanded pancakes for breakfast, and I baked them! I just found a ready-made mixture in the store, it turned out to be tasty and the composition was good. And you don’t need to fuss to bake 10 small pancakes.

So here it is. We had breakfast and went to explore “to the sea”. The people are all in shorts and T-shirts, but we are persistent - in jeans and sweatshirts!

Costa Adeje goes down to the water in rather steep hills, everything is clean, somehow welcoming and a little bit like something out of a movie. And of course it’s warm :)

We went down to the nearest beach, the tide was just beginning. These traces will then not be visible at all, because the abyss will come and swallow you up.

We arrived very early, we had never been to the beach before. Gradually, people began to form, the clouds cleared, the sun became hot. And it got really hot! It's about 10 o'clock in the photo.

What follows seems to be a photo not from that day, but that’s not the point. I want to say that the surf is very aggressive. The rams are so twisted that you can’t calmly pass through the peboy’s line into the water. He hits and throws like crazy! And the sand washes away from under your feet, so you don’t even understand whether you’re walking or standing, although you seem to be moving your feet to move towards the shore or away, or just to stay on your feet - you’re straining, but there’s no sand under you anymore, and you are already falling so beautiful.

Bob was afraid of the surf (and rightly so); he went swimming with his dad. Dad, of course, is our hero in this sense - you need to stand on your own feet and rinse the child to your heart's content!

We walked back to the hotel along steep mountains and the sunshine. I thought I would die from the strain. But thank God we got there. And then there’s the pool! Bob, inspired by swimming in the ocean, began to break into the pool. And again Igor heroically participated in Bobbin’s water activities.
It is stated that the water in Tenenife pools is all heated. But I decided to climb up to my waist just once. Igor swam, but Bob was ready not to get out at all. He's a walrus, just so you know.

We decided not to walk to the ocean anymore, well, what the hell. Only if you go down, but don’t go up, yes.
A shuttle bus runs from the hotel to the beaches at scheduled times. But if anything, you can use public transport. The schedule hangs at the stops, just like everything in Vilnius!

The nature there is absolutely crazy. It is clear that this is out of habit, but still. We are crossing the road, and then a bean the size of a very large banana falls on our heads. Bob - in the sense of bob, not Bob.
This is the tree where he fell from.

We then opened it at home. I assume that this is some kind of giant acacia. Because the bean is dry and flat, and inside there are these kind of giant peas.

In! And here is our window into the bedroom, and on the right there is a door - the entrance to the apartment.

About other days now.
One of the excursions that we bought on the spot was not even an excursion, but a diving course for Igor. Training and immersion. The entertainment lasts only 5 hours, during which time Bob and I ate together on a shuttle to a distant beach, not the gray one where Igor and I had been the day before.

Here the sand turned out to be white and the water turquoise!

We collected shells there and dug in the sand. An old Frenchman came up to us and we talked about shells and who came from where and when. This and that. And I wanted to say something so important, something that would make him feel good. I say: my son and I are watching Jacques Cousteau’s program.
The old man looked up from searching for shells under our feet and said: Who is this?

Then Bob and I walked back from the beach to the point where the shuttle stops. It was early 12 noon, we ate some fruit, washed it down with water, and then the bus arrived.

After this point, the shuttle went to other beaches, it was about 40 minutes on the way, Bobas was exhausted and he happily slept all the way to the hotel.

I woke up near the hotel, we went to lunch, came to the room and went to bed, and then Igor returned from diving. We slept, had dinner and went to the supermarket to SEE.
The intensity of the day is just off the charts)))

Evening, warm.

In general, a supermarket is like a supermarket. The only thing is the very strange and unusual arrangement of departments and products for us.
We only needed to buy 3 things, so we walked around the entire store up and down several times before we found what we needed.
By the way, water on the island is worth its weight in gold, so of course, at least drink some water at the restaurant, but we always bought a lot of bottles for ourselves at home.

Fish counter.

Have you seen? Have you seen it? 10 euros per kg of huge shrimp! Yes, if they didn’t feed me for slaughter in the restaurant, I would have stocked up on these shrimp and fish here!!!

Unknown garbage that locals bought in bags.
Then I saw these in our restaurant too and tried them. This is something like halva (it’s not clear what it’s made from). I didn’t like it, Igor and Bob generally don’t eat this.
By the way, I’ll take a break and go have some tea with our sunflower halva.

Huge sausages and hams. Not sticks like ours, but almost like balls. We haven't tried any.
We could barely move our legs for the first 5 days, we were so overfed. Well, really, like children of war... That there was nothing to buy in the store!

Vegetables and fruits are all gigantic. Paprika is the size of a head. The price is, for example, 1.10 euros per kg, so I took one “average” paprika and it cost me 0.80 cents.
I put an orange in the photo to compare sizes, and Igor said: so what, the orange is also gigantic.

These croutons are popular, mini biscotti. Spread jams and sauces on them and crunch them.

Vegetable sets. Look cool!

Let the meringue be my souvenir. I had nowhere else to eat, but I steadfastly crunched on it!!!

We don’t seem to have anything like that - crackers with non-Russian flavors. For example, with dried tomatoes.

Lots of baked goods. We only bought donuts (otherwise they don’t feed us at the hotel, yeah). The donuts are divine!!!

Rolls without filling for self-dressing. Convenient!

There are a lot of different sets for salads.

And all the local people there are fat. These are in the body.

And to the topic of food. Here is one of our dinners. Huge shrimp and mussels.
When we returned home a week later, we weighed ourselves. Igor lost 1 kg, Bob seemed to gain half a kilo, and I gained +5. +5, Karl!
True, I experienced swelling on the eve of departure, but not by 5 kilos!

-----
We also went to the volcano, but I’ll write a separate post about that.
-----

In addition to the volcano on the island, I was interested in the Monkey Park with lemurs, the black beach and driving along these strange roads.
And all this happened in one beautiful day.

A car with a child seat cost us 42 euros per day. There is no need to buy additional gasoline. As the manager explained to us, the island is so small that cars are not given out with a full tank, and then they do not require the return of gasoline, because even with a quarter tank you will drive around the entire island a hundred times.
By the way, gasoline is 10-20 cents cheaper than in Lithuania.

We took the smallest car from the catalogue. Actually, here it is. And she is really very small!

The roads are of courseo! Out of habit, you drive and your eyes widen from the number of turns and junctions. Igor downloaded a map of the island at home in advance, so we had a navigator on our tablet with us. And so Igor navigated, and I taxied. And although the movement is not fast, we still missed the necessary turns several times and drove in circles a little.
To be fair, I note that when you drive along the same path more than once, your eyes return to their place from your forehead.

In short, I really liked it! Wow, how cool it was!
For me, the experience was both enjoyable and exciting (not stressful), and it was actually cheaper than diving! (The diving session cost 80 euros, and note - not a day, but 5 hours in total).
So if we go to Tenerife again, I will definitely take a car! And for longer :)

First we rolled into the lemur coop. Especially in the morning, when it’s not hot, there are few visitors and the animals are not very full.
There is a rather large park there with crocodiles, monkeys, parrots and a cafe. It has open areas, for example, here with cacti. And there are closed lattice enclosures where you go in and close the door behind you.

You take out a bowl of food from your stash, and all the fun begins)))

Lemurs and crowds of guinea pigs!

And many more different monkeys behind the glass. But this is not as impressive as living warm lemurs and guinea pigs)))

Then we returned home, ate, slept and drove to the black beach, another dream place.
And so the sand turned out to be really black!

So black, like still hot asphalt before laying.

Here I was ready to cry with happiness again. Because it's black sand! You just don't understand! It's black and soft!

We spent two hours on the beach here. Evening was coming down from the mountain, and I was still driving home! We left in the blue twilight, with headlights and all.
It was not an easy journey! A serpentine road, a narrow road, an oncoming caravan of cars with blinding headlights on the hills (and the whole road is in these hills). Wow, how cool it was!
As usual, I was very worried whether I would find a place to park. We arrived and stood almost next to the reception!
They brought the keys to the manager on duty. And there is such a friendly and cheerful guy there. During dinner, he once brought me tea from the bar (they don’t serve tea in the restaurant at dinner), smiled a lot and explained that this is a special form, but for all people.
I wasn’t the only big-bellied one there, but I still felt the staff treated me more kindly and caringly.
And at the reception this manager, we give him the key, he says: Its for mi? ;) and chuckled. We laughed and said yes, of course, sorry, this is for the guy who owns it. And so it was all kind and easy.
------
Bob was always trying to find company among other children. And there were crowds of children! And here he is to everyone, this way and that. But the majority of children huddled close to their parents and did not make contact.
And suddenly - lo and behold! - Bob met a boy who was a copy of himself! The same height and build, temperament and level of physical activity.
They stuck to each other incredibly! Since then, a completely different life began for us in the evenings))) That family turned out to be from Iceland (at first we thought they were from Greenland). Dad is tall too. And this is the picture every evening: two long dads are sitting, two identical boys are rushing in front of them, and mothers are sitting on either side of the dads, buried in their phones.
First, they run around the area near the pool, then the children move to.. the assembly hall?))) in general, to some kind of event room, where there is a small stage, then many rows of chairs, and at the end - a bar.
And you can just sit on the chairs, drink whatever you want and relax. And the children are on their own.
Each time we carried away Boba in soap and delight from these games.

Here's another story from life.
We went to dinner, didn’t touch anyone, they offered to take a photo of us, and tomorrow at breakfast, they say, you’ll take the photo. For free? -For free!
In the morning the price jumps from zero to 20 euros, but Bob has already fallen in love with the magazine and two photographs of him, mom and dad!!! In the magazine about Tenerife there is information, about nature and features. And another photo of us on the spread.
In the end, we took it, and now we have a wonderful memory, because we don’t print photographs ourselves..

Another memory: a large laundry in the hotel basement.

Our dinner the night before our flight.

The flight back again took 9 hours, 6 of which were actually in the sky.
The flight was greatly delayed because there was again a headwind for those flying from Vilnius, and we were also late. Again Bob played and slept.

And at home there was frost and snow waiting for us. I won’t show my face to you about this)))

Once upon a time, the island of Tenerife was considered something unattainable; only rich people could afford to come here. But today the situation has changed radically, and this resort is ready to accept tourists traveling on a relatively modest budget.

Tenerife, which is part of the region, is located much further south, quite close to the equator, almost off the coast of Africa. This is what determines its climate. Thanks to this, you can relax in Tenerife all year round, including in winter.

Therefore, those who go on vacation at the beginning of the year, when there is severe frost outside, should not be sad: the largest island of the Canary archipelago is a great place to go. Moreover, many believe that in Tenerife in January you can simply have a great holiday, especially since there are plenty of advantages for choosing this destination. And one of them is the affordable price compared to the high season.

Weather

Tenerife in January is no less comfortable than in the other months of the year. In general, the climate is considered a kind of “feature” of this island. And indeed it is. Warm makes the island's weather always comfortable. However, it is quite pleasant to relax in Tenerife in January. If in high season It is somewhat hot here, although not as sweltering as at other nearby resorts, and despite the fact that the Sahara Desert is located at the same latitude as the island, it is especially good here at the beginning of the year. Apparently, this is precisely the reason why so many Europeans who want to spend time in the warmth new year holidays, come to Tenerife in January.

Temperature conditions

In general, the north of Tenerife is more capricious in terms of weather. This is explained by the rather cold trade winds, which blow from the east and are very frequent guests. True, there are much fewer days when the sky is covered with clouds than absolutely cloudless ones, and there are few heavy rains per month - up to three or four days.

When planning a vacation to Tenerife in January, you should take into account that the topography of this island is so complex and varied that the weather in different places can differ quite significantly. When in the north goes strong rain, in the south the weather may be warm and calm, without any precipitation. For example, the resort of Puerto de la Cruz, located in the low-lying part, is cooler than its western “brother” Guia de Ezor.

The average temperature in Tenerife in January reaches its minimum for the whole year. However, this does not frighten tourists, since it has never fallen below twelve degrees in the entire history of this amazing island. On average, the air in Tenerife warms up to plus twenty-two during the day and fifteen at night. It rains on the island in January much less often than, for example, in late autumn or December, but the air humidity is generally higher than in summer.

About beach holidays

In Tenerife in January it is quite possible to sunbathe. The weather contributes to this, especially since the sun, although warm, is not scorching, so the risk of getting sunburned is minimized during this period. The best places for a beach holiday in Tenerife in January are Los Cristianos, Las Americas and here you can “snatch” winter without any problems great holiday on the ocean shore with swimming.

The water temperature this month is about nineteen degrees. And although swimming in such warm water For those who want to swim in more comfortable conditions, almost all hotels on the island offer heated pools. If the weather is cool, then walking excursions to many places can be an excellent alternative to a beach holiday this month. beautiful places islands. You can, for example, visit National Park. Those who like to climb mountains will enjoy walks, especially since the resort’s topography contributes greatly to this. Moreover, in cool weather doing this is much more comfortable than in hot weather summer days. Feeling like pioneers, you can walk around and explore the volcano, visit the observatory and admire the incomparably beautiful lunar landscape.

Where can you go

All entertainment venues in Tenerife are open year-round. Lovers of good music can combine beach holiday and sightseeing with visits to local nightclubs with their sets of famous DJs. Shopaholics will definitely find something to buy if they go shopping. In January, especially during the New Year holidays, many shopping centers They have sales, so you can make a lot of purchases with good discounts. Those tourists who come to Tenerife with small children in winter should definitely visit the island’s zoos or water parks, which are also open all year round.

Features of winter holidays

The north of the island, thanks to the rains that pass here, is characterized during this period by the rapid flowering of evergreen plants. Those who were lucky enough to visit Tenerife in January remember this for a long time. Reviews from tourists indicate that the resort fully lives up to its nickname “islands of eternal spring.” Many people long remember the riot of subtropical flowers and colors that they observe in the middle of winter. It must be said that South part of this island in in this regard slightly less rich, but also less rainy this season.

The price for a holiday in Tenerife in January is especially popular among discount lovers. At this time, travel companies begin to massively reduce the cost of travel packages. A similar tour in high season will cost thirty-five or forty percent more than a trip to Tenerife in January.

A trip to Tenerife in January is definitely more affordable than in high summer and autumn seasons. But is it really justified, and what can you do on the island in the dead of winter? This is what our Tour Calendar tried to figure out.

Weather in Tenerife in January

Thanks to Canary warm current, encircling the island in the direction from north to south, even in winter season Tenerife has a very mild climate. Essentially, it warms the atmosphere and prevents it from cooling, so in January it is much warmer here than in Mallorca. It is not for nothing that Tenerife is called the “island of eternal spring”. This month, however, as always, its northern part, due to its greater share of precipitation, is surrounded by greenery: banana groves, vineyards, date palms, subtropical relict forests and lush gardens with tropical flowers. Southern regions rather sparse vegetation. In general, Tenerife is still diverse and beautiful, the only changes that have occurred are the weather. Temperature This month becomes the coolest of the year, at the same time the amount of precipitation is slightly reduced compared to November and December. The average temperature of the absolute maximum is about +20 °C, and the absolute minimum is +14 °C. Nevertheless, the complex rugged terrain was the reason for the formation of several simultaneously in such a small area. climatic zones. Therefore, if on one coast of Tenerife the sky is overcast with thick clouds and it is about to start raining, then on the other coast it is possible that it will be sunny and dry. In the capital in January, the daily temperature delta ranges from +14 to 20 °C. Puerto de la Cruz has a more northern position and lies in a lowland, so it is fair that it is somewhat cooler here - +12..+18 °C. In the secluded western resort of Guia De Ezora, these values are slightly lower - +11+17 °C. In areas significantly removed from coastline or located closer to the central zones, meteorologists record from 6..+8 °C to +13..+14 °C. There is snow in the mountains at this time, take this into account when planning your excursion there. Despite the reduction in precipitation, air humidity this month throughout the island, with the exception of its southern part, remains elevated. In the north, the weather is characterized by great instability, as cold trade winds enter here from the northeast. The number of cloudy and rainy days here exceeds the number of days marked by sun. Frequent showers are still possible in the depths of Tenerife, and in the southern resorts precipitation is reduced to 5-6 days.

Of course, the first thing you need to do when arriving in Tenerife is to explore it far and wide. The weather is most favorable for this. The sensations brought while traveling through cities and villages are simply unforgettable. You can also go shopping, there is a very low VAT rate (branded alcohol will cost you much less than in Duty Free at the local airport, and even more so than in Moscow stores). Well, you shouldn’t deny yourself big and small entertainment: all kinds of shows, discos in nightclubs, restaurants, etc.

Beach holiday

Comfortable swimming in January in Tenerife, unless you practice winter swimming or are a Baltic, is unlikely. Water on the south coast Atlantic Ocean stays at +19 °C, and in the north this figure may be one notch less. However, here on coastal strip, except for windsurfers and surfers, no one “inhabits”. A meeting takes place on the northeastern beaches of Roque de las Bodegas and Almáciga big waves, winds and... man.

In particular warm days When dry and sunny weather sets in, it’s quite possible to get your dose of tanning and vitamin D on the island. The greatest likelihood of this happening is in resorts such as Las Americas, Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos.

Entertainment and excursions

Those who are passionate about wildlife can recommend a visit to Laura Park, which is located in the northern city of Puerto de la Cruz. It is a huge complex, on the territory of which there is a zoo, an aquarium, and Botanical Garden. But the main thing why tens of thousands of tourists flock here is this incomparable show of killer whales and sea lions. No less interesting may be a trip to the “Jungle Park” in the south of the island, where about 500 species of animals live, including tigers and pumas.

Amateur photographers (and not only them) should definitely take gorgeous pictures against the backdrop of the volcanic sand of Playa de la Arena. And if this seems insufficient, you can take part in an excursion called “A trip to the most beautiful places on the island.” And don’t forget to bring Canarian wines and liqueurs, which are famous for their excellent taste, as gifts for your family. And also keep in mind that the price tag for perfume here is much lower than in Russia.

Holidays and festivals

On January 6, the island celebrates the Feast of the Three Magi/Kings, also known as Epiphany. On this day in the capital of Tenerife and in many other places major cities you can watch their solemn procession, as well as a huge crowd of people, among whom there are a lot of children. The sages generously give them sweets and gifts. This is a kind of tribute to the memory of a distant event, when the three wise men Caspar, Melchior and Belshazzar came to the newborn Jesus to worship him. On January 27, on Almáciga beach, located in the north of the country, a festival is held in honor of Our Lady of Nuestra Señora de Begoña. In the middle of the month, in the southern city of Arona, the memory of Saint Antonio Abad is honored with the “Fiesta de San Antonio Abad”. At the end of January (sometimes at the beginning of January), one of the most important festivals in Europe is held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife classical music"Festival de Música de Canarias".

A trip to Tenerife in January is definitely more affordable than in the high summer and autumn seasons. But is it really justified, and what can you do on the island in the dead of winter? This is what our Tour Calendar tried to figure out.

Weather in Tenerife in January

Thanks to the Canary Warm Current, which circles the island from north to south, Tenerife has a very mild climate even in the winter season. The southern regions are rather sparse in vegetation. In general, Tenerife is still diverse and beautiful, the only changes that have occurred are the weather. The temperature of this month becomes the coolest of the year, at the same time the amount of precipitation is slightly reduced compared to November and December. The average temperature of the absolute maximum is about +20 °C, and the absolute minimum is +14 °C. Nevertheless, the complex, rugged terrain caused the formation of several climatic zones simultaneously in such a small area. In areas significantly removed from the coastline or located closer to the central zones, meteorologists record from 6..+8 °C to +13..+14 °C.

The water on the southern coast of the Atlantic Ocean is +19 °C, while on the northern coast this figure may be one notch less. However, here on the coastal strip, except for windsurfers and surfers, no one “lives”. On the northeastern beaches of Roque de las Bodegas and Almáciga, there is a meeting of large waves, winds and... people.

On particularly warm days, when the weather is dry and sunny, it is quite possible to get your dose of tanning and vitamin D on the island. The greatest likelihood of this happening is in resorts such as Las Americas, Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos.

Entertainment and excursions

Those who are passionate about wildlife can recommend a visit to Laura Park, which is located in the northern city of Puerto de la Cruz. It is a huge complex, on the territory of which there is a zoo, an aquarium, and a botanical garden. But the main thing why tens of thousands of tourists flock here is the incomparable show of killer whales and sea lions. No less interesting may be a trip to the “Jungle Park” in the south of the island, where about 500 species of animals live, including tigers and pumas.
