We offer you the TOP 10 open world games, among which you will definitely find a couple of products that you will like.

This game has been popular since back in 2007. It was then that the title of a game about an assassin appeared on PC screens for the first time. Different platforms were used for it, but Assassin’s Creed always kept up with the times - at different periods of time they were PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows and others. The genre of the game - action-adventure with an open world - captivated users so much that the developers, the French company Ubisoft, decided that they could not do without a sequel.

And now, in the last report from Ubisoft in 2016, it was said that the entire Assassin’s Creed series games have been sold over 100 million times.

The plot is always very interesting and has a historical basis. For example, in the first parts there is a war going on for many centuries between the Templars and the Assassins. Desmond Miles, who was the main character of the first three parts, had to travel back in time to obtain the “Piece of Eden”. And all in order to prevent the apocalypse from occurring.

Assassin's Creed has beautiful graphics (the landscapes in the game are amazing), excellent gameplay that combines parkour and stealth killings.

In the TOP of open-world games, we placed it as high as 10th position only because the open world does not play an important role in the gameplay of the series itself.

This game was released 16 years ago, and was the first of those where there was a change in weather conditions, day and night. It has many mini-games that everyone loves: darts, bowling, etc.

Shenmue was made only for the Dreamcast. It has many elements that at that time seemed like an unprecedented achievement: “Unlooked Scene”, which occurs for certain reasons, as well as Quick Time Events (in order for the action to be performed correctly, you need to press the buttons shown on the screen).

The storyline is about a guy who lost his father. Now he must take revenge on the killer and take away his expensive item. In progress main character will encounter situations where either friends or combat skills will be needed.

After some time, the second sequel game was released, which became even more dynamic and perfect.

On the eighth line in our TOP open-world games we placed Action-adventure about the famous superhero Batman.

Here, each character is depicted as if they had just stepped out of the pages of the original comics. Every element of the characters was carefully crafted and beautifully drawn.

Here the user will meet all his favorite characters: Batman, Joker, Harley Quinn, James Gordon, Croc, Bane and others. All their destinies are united by a plot. The storyline will tell about the Joker's escape from Arkham and his conquest of the island. The player will also be able to take part in a global mission to save Gotham from the influence of “Titan” - the medicine with which the Joker decided to create an army of monsters.

The presence of an open world makes this Batman game one of the best existing today.

Since 2004, since its announcement, this role-playing game was supposed to become one of the most successful representatives of this genre. Dragon Age- an ideological continuation of the legendary game Baldur's Gate, and at the same time, it in no way repeats either the plot or the setting of Baldur's Gate.

The first parts of the series featured a non-linear plot component, a flexible role system, lengthy dialogue parts and additional missions.

In 1997, an open-world series called Fallout launched.

The first part of the series became mega-popular, thanks to its characteristic features: firstly, the user was not limited by anything or anyone, he could act as he pleased. Thanks to this, critics reacted positively to the product, and players spent hours playing the game in admiration. It is not surprising that the second part of the game was released soon.

Fallout 2 has received many improvements compared to its predecessor. They also added many quests that made the gameplay more varied.

Fallout 3 changes the series altogether. You can play from first or third person. On the Survivor side, you will have to communicate with other heroes, fight with or without weapons, perform various tasks, etc. The open world of Fallout includes a huge territory, which consists of separate smaller segments.

Fallout 4 - newest game series, which became an undoubted bestseller. The game has a huge open world and the widest possibilities for customizing the character, his weapons, items, and home arrangement. Also, many modifications have been released for the game, expanding the already huge and diverse post-nuclear world of Fallout.

The Fallout series is a vivid example of the embodiment of forecasts for the future from Americans of the 1950s, so the “calling card of the game” is a huge amount of retrofuturistic details. Even the idea itself is an action in the world where it took place atomic war- came from those times when many were afraid of just such an outcome.

Who hasn't heard of Geralt of Rivia - the immortal hero of Andrzej Sapkowski's books? In Poland it is already almost national pride and the most popular literary hero, so it is not surprising that such an expressive character is embodied in a series of games. Plus, his talented performance in the game product added to the popularity of Geralt and his story.

The Witcher games are created in the genre, and the Polish company CD Projekt RED worked on the creation of the product.

The first part was released back in 2007, and the developers did not make any changes to it special rates. It was more of an experimental product. However, the game exceeded all expectations, and this moment the series has become one of the best in its genre.

A beautiful game world, an exciting battle system, the presence of interesting heroes besides Geralt, an excellent character leveling system, a storyline based on your favorite books, tasks, etc. - all this made the game so wonderful and loved by many.

It is for all its advantages that the game receives fifth place in our top “Best Open World Games”.

4. Red Dead Redemption

This game is a kind of GTA that takes place in the Wild West. It’s not for nothing that the developers of both series of games are RockStar. The genre of the game is an action-western, in which there are many fragments of RPG, adventures, which, together with the open world, create a unique combination.

The main differences between this game and GTA 4 are, for example, the presence of a circular selector for selecting weapons. Afterwards, this system was already used in further products, since it allows you to select the desired weapon many times faster.

The plot tells the story of John Marston, who has to do a lot amid the corruption and lawlessness that reigns in the Wild West at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Graphics, interesting plot, realistic characters... All this makes the Far Cry shooter one of the best among open world games. There is a balance between game elements, while everything in the game has its purpose. Here you can hunt, collect potions, perform extra-plot tasks, and at the same time, the gameplay is also at the highest level and makes the game very enjoyable to play.

The storyline tells about the bloody deeds that take place on the tropical island of Rook Island. The main character is Jason Brody, who got into trouble with local pirates. During the passage, the player makes decisions on which the ending will depend. And after completing the game, the island remains available for free exploration.

Another interesting thing is that each mission of the game is unique in its own way and is not repeated. This and many other things make the game stand out from its peers.

A list of the best open world games would be incomplete without this game. It has a huge number of locations, underground tunnels, quests, and riddles. You will be able to explore all the vast territories in a fantasy world with great pleasure, where the graphics are simply amazing.

You won't get bored with a lot of different features, of which there are simply an incredible amount in the series of games. And even a simple mission can take a huge amount of time, since in the process of completing it there will certainly be many additional branches that will also require your attention. In the process, you will come across other characters with whom it will always be interesting to chat.

1. GTA

GTA

What TOP 10 open world games would be complete without products from this legendary series with millions of fans around the globe? These games from developer RockStar embody all the delights of an open gaming world.

GTA has everything that players love so much: mini-games, things that are collected in the process of completing tasks, interesting missions that open up new aspects of the plot, a high level of realism, colorful characters, etc. Also, a huge place belongs to the freedom of action of the main character - if you want, drive around the city in a stolen car, if you want, walk along the beaches, if you want, go somewhere in nature, in general - do whatever you want, wander anywhere - everything is in your power .

In the last part of GTA, RockStar did their best, and the open world became something completely different, reaching new level development.

In our opinion, best open world game- this is definitely the GTA series!

Open world games or, as they are also called, “sandboxes” are not such a broad genre among developers today. Distinctive feature Open world games on PC is that you need to spend a fairly large amount of time and resources to create such a game, and therefore they often turn out to be quite high quality.

Today the genre is already filled with a huge number interesting projects, each of which has its own advantages and features, but here we have selected the best open world games on PC, some of which can be downloaded for free via torrent.

Far Cry game series

Far Cry can be called the most famous open-world shooter today, because its popularity came precisely thanks to the freedom of action for the player. In Far Cry, all parts are not united by any specific plot, but they have one thing in common - the main character turns out to be a victim of circumstances and is left with himself on some tropical island filled with criminal groups, drug dealers and, of course, predatory animals, and everyone will have to be resisted with the help of various weapons. For those who want to completely immerse themselves in the bosom of nature, the game Far Cry: Primal was released, in which the user finds himself in prehistoric times.

Fallout game series

Fallout is one of the oldest series that has remained popular to this day. Main feature The game is a post-apocalyptic setting in which the user is immersed in a dilapidated world where most people were destroyed or killed nuclear explosion, and most of the free land is occupied by radiation. In these conditions, the player will need to complete the main task, earning resources for himself, as well as producing new weapons and armor, but its most important advantage is the huge number of detailed side quests, many of which are not inferior even to the main storyline.

Assassin's Creed series of games

The release of Assassin's Creed made two breakthroughs in the stealth-action genre. First of all, Ubisoft developed the first game in the stealth genre with an open world, and in addition, it showed that secret murders are not only the work of modern special agents armed with the latest technology, and that in the Middle Ages they also did similar things, using much more primitive tools. The main character turns out to be a hereditary assassin who, with the help of a special device, immerses himself in the memories of his ancestor, who is engaged in eliminating the most difficult targets. A well-developed semi-mystical plot and unique gameplay - here distinctive features AC series.

Mass Effect series

Series Mass Effect is much more limited in terms of freedom of action compared to other games of this genre, because here we are given the right to dispose of several space systems, but since there is no possibility of free flight, the player can only decide which planet to go to this time to fulfill his tasks. This series captivated users with its interesting gameplay, but even more so with its detailed plot and the characters of all the characters, from the player’s immediate partners to all kinds of NPCs.

Grand Theft Auto series

Probably the most famous, popular, and at the same time old game with an open world. The main character turns out to be a victim of circumstances that push him onto the path of crime, where he must prove to others that even such a simple person like him can turn from a simple “pawn” into one of the leaders of the criminal world. Constant robberies, fights between gangs, escapes from the police and, of course, a huge pile of money that you can spend on whatever you want, starting from modern weapons and ending with huge cottages and skyscrapers. Complete freedom of action without any restrictions - this is the whole GTA series.

Mafia game series

The Mafia series of games is as similar as possible to GTA, and its main feature is that if in Grand Theft Auto all the actions take place later than the 70s, then in Mafia the limit is the end of the 30s, that is, that period of time in which the mafia had truly enormous influence and opportunities, being a real problem for the surrounding society. Otherwise, everything is similar - the main character’s path from a pawn to the head of a criminal gang, constant escapes from the police, the ability to travel without restrictions throughout the city, stealing cars and much more.

The Elder Scrolls series of games

Game series The Elder Scrolls is published by Bethesda, which also developed Fallout, so it is not surprising that both games have the same main feature - a lot of additional quests, each of which is so developed that some simply forget about the main storyline, completely immersing themselves in completing side quests. However, The Elder Scrolls is a fantasy world with its own unique races, deities and, of course, spells. Among other things, the game offers a largely unique gameplay that is not much like other RPGs.

Watch Dogs series

Watch Dogs is an open world game in the style of GTA with its own gameplay features. The key difference of this project is that the freedom of action of the protagonist is a little wider, because he is a professional hacker, in whose hands a program is capable of hacking any networks, thanks to which he freely receives information from any database, can view cameras at any distance and do a lot of other interesting things, including switching traffic lights at will. But if in GTA the player joins a criminal gang, then in WD the main character is a crime fighter who uses his abilities for the benefit of others.

Revelation

Dead Rising 3

A game about zombies with an open world, which differs significantly from the previous two parts, as in the case of The Witcher, precisely by the presence of a huge space for action. The player receives complete free will and can go to any location to destroy zombies using improvised means. It is worth noting that here you can combine weapons from various materials, as well as use a variety of vehicles, which you can not only control, but also construct even more powerful machines from. Thus, the result is a unique zombie game that will definitely appeal to all fans of the genre.

Batman: Arkham City

Batman Arkham City is the latest installment in the Batman series from Rocksteady, which has gained immense popularity around the world. The game is as similar as possible to the previous parts, and this is not at all surprising, because they maintain almost perfect balance and harmony, but at the same time, the developers have added one element without which Batman simply cannot exist - the Batmobile, which is his constant companion in the fight with crime. With the help of the Batmobile, our hero moves around the city much faster, and can also use it to deal with criminals faster and more effectively.

Minecraft

An open-world sandbox game on PC that has captivated millions of users around the world, becoming one of the most popular not only in its genre, but also, in principle, among all existing projects today. This popularity is explained by the fact that the game, at first glance, seems simple - “square” graphics, convenient gameplay and no difficulties, but in the end it turns out that its capabilities can be used to achieve goals of enormous scale, even building your own Burj Khalifa, and it's truly fascinating.

DayZ

Another game about a zombie apocalypse with an open world, but no longer aimed at the “action” genre, but at “survival”, since the conditions here are truly difficult. In order to survive in this huge world, the player will have to use the maximum of his resources, and also meet with many other users, many of whom may not be at all friendly, because each player here will always be faced with the question of trusting another and going through this difficult path together or just shoot him, replenishing your backpack with his supplies.

It's hard to find a gamer who will say that games with small worlds are better than games with large ones. As a rule, the opposite happens: everyone wants more, and the more, the better. This is because the big world is usually associated with freedom, and it’s hard to imagine anything more valuable in video games than freedom. So the big world is an interesting thing. And right now I will tell you about ten not very old games, whose worlds were the largest. And I bet it won't turn out to be what you think.

10th place. Skyrim: The Special Edition (39 km?).

Let's come with trump cards! Probably, when it came to the open world, many immediately remembered Skyrim, but, as it turned out, the world of this game is not so big. The game is many years old, but, nevertheless, at one time its icy expanses caused delight. And even now, to put it mildly, they do not seem small. For example, the map of another Bethesda game, Fallout 4, has an area of only 15 square kilometers, despite the difference of many years. However, it is worth adding that these same 39 km of Skyrim did not include dungeons. It seems difficult to count them, but if we added them, then perhaps the project would rise higher. Well, you also need to take into account that in this case we are talking about a Special Edition with all its additions.

9th place. Far Cry 4 (45 km?).

Ubisoft's love for games with open worlds showed immediately. A first-person shooter, and with such a world, you know, it’s worth a lot. Usually, when we say “first-person shooter,” we mean something in the hallway. But that's not the case here. There is a big, seamless, multi-level world here. There are no special caves here, but even without them it turned out pretty well. We do not have exact data on the area of the world of Far Cry 3, but, as reported from the field, the world of the third part turned out to be noticeably smaller.

8th place. Mad Max (50 km?).

If you find fault, you can repeat after the developers who insisted that the world of Mad Max is endless. But we know that this is not so. As soon as you go beyond the map area, an inscription appears on the entire screen saying that this is a wild wasteland, and there is absolutely nothing for you to do here. And, indeed, there was nothing to do, because in this very wasteland there was nothing useful at all. As for the world, the situation here is as follows: the world does not open immediately. From the first minutes you can’t get behind the wheel and drive it diagonally. The maps open in small areas, and therefore do not make a special impression, and do not amaze with their scale. However, the world, due to the “automobile” nature of the game, is still large.

7th place. The Witcher 3 (52 km?).

The story with the area of the game world of the third Witcher is as follows. At the pre-release stage, the developers announced 139 square kilometers. We were still counting then, and were surprised that, supposedly, this was three times more than Skyrim. But there is one nuance: the developers calculated the area of the entire map, with seas, mountains that you can’t climb, and all the buildings that you can’t go into. But, in general, the area of the playable map is a little more than fifty square kilometers, and this is with the addition of Blood and Wine. Without it, the result is something around forty. So, as we see, the best, in my personal opinion, open world, turned out to be not at all as big as it seemed, because we still have six more games ahead of us.

6th place. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild(74 km?)

I would love to tell you about the area of Dragon Age: Inquisition, but, unfortunately, I don’t have the information. So get what I own. The world of the new Zelda is really big. There is room to turn around here, but, as in the Inquisition, density of content had to be sacrificed for space. The map, needless to say, is empty and monotonous. You run through forests and steppes, and only animals jumping up on the way diversify the transitions between interesting, truly game-like locations. But the world is really big, and if it weren’t for the mini-map, you could easily get lost in it, endlessly winding through the hills and ravines.

5th place. Grand Theft Auto V (80 km?).

I wanted to install Watch Dogs 2, but in the genre of open-world urban action games, the latest GTA has no competitors, and there won’t be until Cyberpunk 2077 comes out. So, what do we have? And we have a huge map, the world of which is twice as large as the world of Skyrim and 5 times larger than the world of Fallout 4. So it turns out that in Skyrim there are huge spaces and cities, in Fallout, it’s like, like, a Wasteland, but here there is only one city with the surrounding area, and such a scale. But, you need to take into account the following: this area was calculated taking into account the territory over which you can fly by plane. It would be equally possible to calculate sea world the third Witcher, thanks to which the game about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia would be noticeably superior.

4th place. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (100 km?).

Suddenly? Quite. And I will say more: in general, the world of the game is about 250 square kilometers, but, as you probably already understood, we are talking about the expanses of the sea, through which it is proposed to sail on ships. If we discard them, then there are about a hundred kilometers of land left on which to run. It’s not for nothing that many fans of this pseudo-historical series consider Black Flag to be the best part. The best, not the best, but the world in it is very large, and perhaps even larger than the world of Assassin's Creed: Unity. However, the record, it seems, will not stand for long, because Ubisoft will soon release new part about Egypt. And, where Egypt is, there is a desert, and where there is a desert, there is a minimum of content, which means you can create a huge world. Well, if we remember that there will also be a Mediterranean Sea, along which, supposedly, it will be possible to sail to Greece, then I won’t dare to imagine the scale of the new Assassin’s Creed.

3rd place. Xenoblade Chronicles X (340 km?).

You probably didn't expect to see this game here. Another action game for Nintendo consoles with huge world. But here you also need to understand: the world, although big, is empty. In addition, the method of movement in it seems to be the most high-tech in our entire hit parade. It’s one thing to run on foot, ride horses, or even drive cars, and quite another to travel on futuristic, hovercraft. In general, the world is big, but - there is an opinion - it is unlikely that fans will distinguish their geographical location from screenshots; think about it, someone would conduct such an experiment. There are no memorable places on the map, but 340 square kilometers is no joke either.

2nd place. Just Cause 3 (370 km?).

And another game that you were unlikely to expect, and if you did, it was clearly not in this place. So what do we get? It turns out that we have a total of 1000 square kilometers of the map as a whole, but strictly game, with land, and without the useless ocean, almost three times less. However, it is very significant. For example, if the entire world of Fallout 4 is crossed diagonally on foot in 40 minutes, then the world of Just Because 3 is crossed in 8 hours. A great result that will not be easy to overcome. True, as practice shows, the size of the world is not always a guarantee High Quality games, and this particular action game did not perform as optimists expected: there is too much monotony, but the world is really huge.

1 place. Ghost Recon Wildlands – (400 km?).

Well, the winner of our hit parade, in which games were measured by size, is the latest Ubisoft game, which was initially positioned as an open-world game. The world here is really huge. And all thanks to Bolivia - a country where there are many, many wild drug dealers and deserts. And where there is a desert, there is no need to be shy in scale. It is noteworthy that the area of real Bolivia is slightly more than a million square kilometers. Those. Almost half of the entire state fit in here. This is a serious result, especially since there is almost no water here. Everywhere there is one continuous land on which you can run. What can we say if crossing the entire map by plane takes about 8 minutes. Whether there were guys who covered this map on foot is unknown to science.

This is how we got the TOP chick. Here, of course, you need to take into account that this does not include many games whose worlds could take their rightful place. And all because the data on their area is unknown to anyone. Well, there are also games with a procedurally generated world, such as No Man’s Sky, but this is a slightly different story, so we won’t include them here. And you, if you know about games whose worlds are larger, and even know their area, then, of course, write about it in the comments. Well, that's all. Play only good games, and let no one leave beaten.

When the Scottish development studio Rockstar North released the third part of the gangster saga Grand Theft Auto back in 2001, the fashion for Open World games began to grow rapidly. This is understandable, because it is always interesting to wander the streets of a fictional or plausibly recreated city, complete secondary quests and do whatever you want. So, the top open world games on PC released over the past 4 years. Go!

Grand Theft Auto 5

Where would we be without this game? One of the best projects of the last generation and the entire gaming industry as a whole. It has not yet been released on PC, because the start of sales is scheduled for January 2015. Nevertheless, it has already managed to make a splash among owners of Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4. For the first time in the history of the series, gamers had the opportunity to play as 3 characters at the same time, which certainly added dynamics and excitement. Explore the bottomless expanses of the ocean filled with living creatures, barren deserts and, of course, Los Santos, which is the prototype of the real Los Angeles. Watch the lives of three colorful characters with different personalities and temperaments, take part in exciting robberies, spend your leisure time as you please (triathlon, golf, tennis, racing, flying airplanes and helicopters, going to restaurants, tuning and much more).

The developers were able to improve all elements of the game, including graphics, sound, shooting mechanics and character physics, weather etc. In general, you won’t get bored for a minute in the world of the fifth part, lost among the expanses of Blaine County. In addition to the single player, GTA 5 also has excellent multiplayer, where you can complete additional missions, buy real estate, try your luck on the stock exchanges and just have fun in the company of 16 friends. Of course, the top open world games on PC can only have one winner - GTA 5.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

The Assassin's Creed series consists of 11 games, 6 of which are full-fledged titles, and the rest are just branches. The open worlds of the game allow us to run through the times of the Renaissance, America filled with the events of the War of Independence, revolutionary Paris and, finally, feel like a West Indian pirate. Exploring the open worlds of the game is made more exciting by the fact that the protagonist has strong parkour skills, which means we can climb the most inaccessible towers and explore the city from a bird's eye view. Over the past 4 years, 7 parts have been released at once, from which we will choose, perhaps, the best - Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Players will be able to transform into Edward Kenway, a charismatic, dangerous and brave pirate who skillfully uses all the deadly techniques of an assassin. Capture forts and ships with the help of your own ship "Jackdaw", explore over 50 locations, in which there is a place for Havana, Kingston and, of course, the pirate Nassau. In addition, Edward can visit underwater locations, harpoon unique sea animals, craft new items, look for hidden treasures, get into fights, complete exciting side quests, etc. And you can test your killer skills in multiplayer mode, where the developers provided a variety of features, maps and thoughtful character customization. In the 2013 list, "Assassin's Creed" will convincingly take an honorable 1st place in the ranking.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Boundless spaces, contrasting characters, hundreds of quests, a dynamic plot, exciting character development and thoughtful gameplay - all this is The Elder Scrolls. Our hero is not why life goes on without him. But this is what everyone loves so much in open world games. Children playing tag, tired blacksmiths focused on their work, smiling salesmen, constantly working alchemists and, in the end, warriors fighting among themselves, not paying attention to the protagonist passing by. Today there are 6 full-fledged projects, among which we will highlight only one - The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

The top open world games on PC in 2011 can confidently put this masterpiece from Bethesda Softworks in first place. Take on the role of Dovahkiin, saving the world from Alduin - the mortal enemy of all humanity. Learn spells, upgrade your skills, create armor and weapons, hone your skills in battles, take part in conspiracies and civil war, learn dragon cries, travel across the vast Skyrim.
