Idea to celebrate New Year in Singapore it sounds romantic and exotic. But what does this look like in practice? How is New Year celebrated in Singapore? My friends and I decided to check it out and purposefully went to Singapore on December 30th, expecting grand shows, fireworks and folk festivals. We got almost all of this and even more.

What to expect in Singapore during the New Year holidays

During the Christmas and New Year holidays, many tourists come to Singapore. Shops and shopping centers attract shoppers promotions and discounts, so it is possible to go shopping very efficiently and make some great purchases. I recommend going to the counter with advertising brochures in your hotel and studying them carefully - there is a high probability that you will find discount coupons there. Where to go shopping:

  • to the Orchard Road shopping street - 2.2 km of shopping centers, shops and boutiques,
  • for clothes and fashion accessories famous brands to The Shoppes at shopping center Marina Bay Sands (located on the waterfront at the foot of the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel).

More useful knowledge and advice can be obtained during.

Shopping mall at the foot of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Where does the New Year celebration take place in Singapore?

Epicenter New Year celebrations in Singapore - Marina Bay embankment. All streets and areas around are carefully blocked off and regulated by the police to avoid crowding and chaos as much as possible. And it makes sense. It seems that almost every one of Singapore's five and a half million residents strives to get to the city center and waterfront. There are dense flows of people moving in all passages, subways, at all intersections, streets and bridges.

The best places on the embankment are occupied by families and groups on rugs and blankets a few hours before midnight. Along the fences at the water's edge, tripods with cameras and video cameras are lined up in several rows. Everyone wants to see the fireworks from the front row. Most lucky those viewers who is staying at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and whose the windows look out onto the bay(rooms with city views on the upper floors of the hotel).

What you should be prepared for

To cross from one side of the bay to the other, you need several hours(although it’s usually a 20-minute walk), as you have to navigate a labyrinth of barriers and dense groups of people.

It will be difficult for those who are hungry to find a place to eat. The nearby cafes and restaurants are either crowded or only the bar is open. Book your tables in restaurants in advance or carry something edible with you so as not to remain hungry while walking around New Year's Singapore.

During the holidays, there is no doubt that Singapore is the second most densely populated country in the world (after Monaco).

My recommendation - if you want to get unforgettable experience from New Year's celebrations in Singapore, book a room in one of the hotels on the Marina Bay promenade overlooking the bay.

How to celebrate New Year in Singapore

There are several scenes set up on the embankment where something is almost always happening. Music and loud voices of the show's hosts are heard all around. If you are a fan of modern music, you should linger near one of the stages.

The hotel with a ship on the roof of Marina Bay Sands is illuminated to the maximum, and part of the bay is decorated with white balls, which bloom under the floodlights with all the colors of the rainbow. All this very beautiful, bright and positive.

At 12 o'clock at night everyone raises their eyes to the sky, and it begins fireworks. The enjoyment of fireworks depends on two factors: where you are and the wind, or more precisely, its direction. We were not very lucky - we were standing below on the embankment and the wind was in our direction, and in less than a minute the fireworks turned into colored highlights in thick smoke. A few minutes later, almost the entire embankment was drowned in the same smoke.

Traffic problems after midnight

At this point, the New Year celebration ended and the entire crowd went home. But getting to the hotel turned out to be not such an easy task. Pandemonium was at almost every turn and it took us several hours just to get out onto more or less free streets and head to the hotel on foot (the entrances to the metro were either closed or blocked by many people wanting to get there).

New Year 2018 in Singapore will take place on the night between December and January. Usually the events associated with it are wide and magnificent. European and chinese traditions. One can feel a significant imprint of the culture familiar to us. Unlike other Asian countries, our traditions have taken root here quite well. In addition, an integral part of the winter holidays is the celebration of Christmas.

Holidays in New Year 2018 in Singapore

There are many ways to celebrate the New Year in this country with friends or family, so tourists often come here. There are suitable options for both lovers of peace and tranquility, as well as those who prefer to spend time actively. A pleasant plus is the absence of cold and snow drifts. sit for festive table and you can drink champagne while the clock strikes at home, so it’s worth considering more interesting options that will make your vacation unforgettable.

First of all, it is worth considering the Jewel Box tourist complex. Once at the top of Mount Faber, you will be able to enjoy stunning views of Singapore, the cable car illuminated with colorful lanterns, and Sentosa Island. On the territory of this institution there is a magnificent restaurant, whose employees are developing a special holiday menu. Wine is served in unlimited quantities. After the chimes strike, guests begin to have fun, go out to the dance floor and enjoy the music. Once the lights come on, the restaurant turns into a real disco area.

Your holiday will not be boring due to the provided entertainment program funicular rides. You will be able to capture the beauty of the island and the opening city panorama in photos from the New Year in Singapore. Every year, changes are made to the restaurant program, but its main parts remain unchanged: delicious food, fun dancing and admiring the surroundings from the cable car. You can participate in it for $260 per person. Includes transfer from hotel to restaurant and back, food, wine and beer, unlimited soft drinks, disco and funicular.

Dizzying New Year

A more extreme option is to celebrate the New Year on a Ferris wheel. You will definitely remember this adventure for the rest of your life. Singapore Flyer is a structure that has no analogues in the whole world. In his booth you can admire fireworks of stunning beauty. There is hardly a better place for this in the whole city. Except on the roofs of skyscrapers, where access is closed. The highest point rises 165 m above the ground. Once you reach it, you will be able to see the Singapore New Year in all its splendor. This option is acceptable for a large company, since 28 people can be in the booth at the same time. If you pre-negotiate the conditions with the administration, you can take alcohol and festive dishes with you.

You'll have to sit still for a while, but you won't be in the cabin all night. After visiting the Ferris wheel, you can go for a walk around the city. It is interesting to visit Orchard Road. There are a lot of good establishments here, a stay in which is guaranteed to bring pleasure. In fact, their abundance is so great that city guests often get wide-eyed. These are bars, cafes and discos. Any person who has reached the age of majority can dance in a nightclub. If you want to go to a restaurant, you should take into account that pre-booking a place increases your chances of not being left on the street on New Year's Eve. It is not always possible to act spontaneously in such a situation. All places are usually packed until 2-3 am.

Island tours to Singapore for New Year 2018

Have a great time at winter holidays you can by going to the island of Snetosa. Everything on it is conducive to a cheerful and carefree mood. A tourist can find many ways to have fun both during the day and at night:

  • Restaurants here also need to be booked in advance. If for some reason you can’t do this or you just want to get into a more exotic environment, you can go to the beach. Length coastline The island is 3.5 km away. Having previously taken a seat, you can celebrate the New Year right here, admiring the beauty of the water surface. Snow-white soft sand and fun - isn’t this what every person dreams of during the winter cold?
  • You can also take a cable car ride. Such rest is a worthy alternative Ferris wheel. This route provides transportation from the main island to Sentosa. From here you can clearly see the fireworks, however, the cabins are quite small and, of course, the height is much less than 165 m.
  • A party in the middle of the water is also a good option. Huge yachts with a variety of services are available for rent. They can even accommodate very big company. They have a buffet on board and take their own drinks with them. Musical accompaniment provides a guest DJ who plays until the early hours.
  • You can also consider the option of celebrating the holiday at a hotel. Many hotels have their own entertainment programs, restaurant buffets, shows, discos and much more. Casino doors are opening for gambling establishments high class. A large cash win will be an excellent New Year's gift. The main thing is to know when to stop so as not to stay broke.

As you can see, the warm and hospitable state of Singapore offers its guests a lot of recreational opportunities. It's important to find good place for an overview of fireworks, since few countries can compare with this one in terms of their scale. You can go on a tour for 2 weeks for $1800.

The site also offers readers information about how the New Year 2018 will take place.

Malaysia and Singapore are two opposites. Glittering Singapore never sleeps - at night it is illuminated by the bright lights of the futuristic Gardens by the Bay. Here, on the roof of the most expensive hotel in the country, they drink exotic cocktails. In Malaysia, people walk along rickety suspension bridges over the tropics, go caving in largest caves planets and watch hungry crocodiles during a cruise into the jungle. What to do in Malaysia, where to visit in Singapore, and what you can’t miss, says traveling CEO and owner of Bodo Travel Vitaly Drozd.

Caving in Mulu Caves and Bat Dances

Gunung Mulu National Park is home to one of the largest limestone cave complexes in the world. Usually people come here for at least a few days in order to have time to conquer at least a few grottoes - there are more than 60 of them in total, and they are huge.

As darkness falls, many people gather on the embankment - everyone is waiting for the laser show. Figures, animals, people suddenly rise out of the water - and all this looks like a real movie, only against the backdrop of fountains. And for dessert - Gardens by the Bay. Tropical 50-meter trees form a real forest of neon lights.

Canopy tour over the jungle

The indigenous people of Malaysia created many suspension bridges to easily travel from one part of the forest to another. Later, with their help, scientists observed life in the jungle. Hundreds of years have passed, and the “air” paths are still in excellent condition - they sway at the first movement, as before. Therefore, if you want to tickle your nerves, rope roads over the tropics are the ideal solution.

Extreme rafting in Kota Kinabalu

This is where you can really fight water element. A helmet, a vest, a kind parting word from the instructor - and forward to adventure! Be prepared, the river is unique - its waves are equal in strength to sea waves. At the end of the water race, you will really want to eat, and you should do this right on the shore, in nature untouched by man. If you understand that extreme sports are not your thing, book a rafting trip on a calm river. This alternative may be offered if you are traveling in a group.

Universal Studios Amusement Park

How long ago did you say goodbye to childhood and did you say goodbye at all? Sentosa Island has its own cinematic Disneyland - Universal Studios Singapore. To get there you need to take the Singapore cable car in a cabin, the windows of which offer wonderful views of the surrounding area. The park itself covers an area of 49 hectares, where there are 7 zones:

  • Hollywood. Here you can stroll along the Walk of Fame and watch a Broadway theater show.
  • New York. Reduced " Big Apple» with yellow taxis and shops.
  • Ancient Egypt. The atmosphere of the movie "The Mummy". The local attraction scares everyone - even hardened adrenaline junkies.
  • Madagascar. Selfies with penguins are a must do.
  • Science fiction. There is a battle between “Humans” and “Clones”, where tourists take part.
  • Park Jurassic. The area is surrounded by dozens of fearsome dinosaurs.
  • A far, far away state. In this kingdom is located the castle of the evil short king and the home of the green ogre Shrek.

Walks in national parks

The Wetland Nature Reserve is known for its dense mangrove forests. Various animals live here: from leopards and gibbons to exotic birds. To see all the beauty of the fauna - phlegmatic crocodiles, tigers and fragile hummingbirds - you need to board special “long boats” and sail deep into the jungle. In the evening, fireflies wake up and fly out, creating luminous garlands with their bodies.

Have you seen proboscis monkeys or bearded pigs? There are such in national park Bako. In addition to them, crabeater macaques, langurs and their carrot-colored babies and other Red Book animals live here. Be careful: there are carnivorous meat-eating plants in the reserve.

Snorkeling, monitor lizards and zipline

The islands of Malaysia are famous for their beaches. You won't regret taking a cruise between the islands. It will be much cheaper for a group of travelers to rent a boat, plus they will most likely give you a discount. On Manukan you can snorkel in the clear blue sea. IN clear water opens into view sea world with its inhabitants.

On Sapi you can meet huge tame lizards - monitor lizards. They easily make contact and allow themselves to be photographed. And over the island itself they ride a zipline. The cable car stretches across the island at an altitude of 25 m, and the flight speed reaches 60 km/h.

Batu cave complex in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a bit like Singapore - just as bright and glowing. Local pride - the Petronas buildings are the Asian version of New York's Twin Towers. But the most famous attraction of the city is the Batu Caves. They frame the oldest Hindu temple. You can feel like Indiana Jones by climbing the 272 steps to the “Dark” cave - the atmosphere is appropriate. Lifehack: To see the sanctuary of the god Subrahmanya without a crowd of tourists, it is better to arrive in Bata early - the entrance to the caves is open from 7 am.

Prices

The cost of two-way air tickets from Kyiv to Singapore with a transfer in Amsterdam will cost $760 for economy class. In Malaysia, everything is two to three times cheaper than in Singapore.

  • Bottle of water 0.5 - $0.24 in Kuala Lumpur and $0.9 in Singapore.
  • Inexpensive lunch for one - $2.8 / $7.6.
  • Hostels and hotels 1-2 stars - $17 / $49.
  • 4-star hotels and above - $72 / $167.
  • Taxi for 1 km - $2.8 / $4.9.
  • A cup of cappuccino – $2.7 / $3.4.
  • Tour of Kuching - $480 for 3 people.
  • Cable car to Sentosa Island - $30 per person.
  • Sightseeing tour of Singapore - from $420.

Do not swim between October and February. In Malaysia, you can visit the beaches in any season, except during stormy periods. This is especially true east coast. The water turns red and is fraught with toxic poisoning.

Plan your budget correctly. Accommodation, meals, transfers and excursions are the most expensive elements. For the latter, pledge up to 50% of the total amount.

I advise you every time and I will repeat it again: take a windbreaker with you. Malaysia's weather is unpredictable, especially during the rainy season, and you'll be prepared for surprises.

Remember that you will be going into the jungle. Malaysia and Singapore are advanced countries, but wildlife has its own rules. Consult your doctor about prophylactic course of malaria, if you are planning to conquer Borneo.

You will have to walk a lot and for a long time - take comfortable and light shoes with you. Ideally these should be trekking boots.
Look for optimal accommodation option. If you are planning an active trip, it is better to stay in hotels with 3 stars or more - you will be able to sleep and relax after caving, trekking and snorkeling.

If following all the rules is too difficult, or you simply don’t want to, contact a pro. In addition to the fact that you will get rid of the need to draw up a route and call guides, you will get significantly save money.
