Famous emblems and logos. Logos of famous fashion brands

Andrey Baturin, February 12, 2014

Nowadays, everyone understands the importance of a logo in the normal functioning and development of a company. It is an identification mark, a kind of brand marking. Therefore, well-known companies spare no expense on logo development. Knowing that in the future, all the money spent will more than pay off. An example is the well-known Apple logo. Before the release of each new model of an Apple smartphone, customers line up in front of the company’s company store for several weeks in order to be the first to buy a gadget, back side which displays the recognizable bitten apple. And it's not about the most best characteristics smartphone, but only in the brand!

When creating a logo, designers use various graphic images, geometric shapes or a combination of them, etc. Very popular to use as identification mark images of animals. And this is not surprising, because man, after all, is a part of nature, no matter how much he moves away from it over the past decades.

Animals have always played a big role in human life: they were personifications of the Gods, they were a source of food and clothing, they faithfully served people... It is precisely because images of animals have symbolic meaning, understandable to everyone on a subconscious level, many companies use them as their logos.

Let's look at some examples of logos of famous brands that have chosen the image of an animal as their logo. And, I must admit, we made the right decision!

Puma

Of course, when it comes to animal logos, the image that immediately comes to mind is a leaping puma. The Puma company logo is probably the most popular brand, the symbol of which is a representative of the fauna. The company was originally called Ruda, from the initials of its founder, Rudolf Dassler. However, over time, a different name was chosen for the company, a more euphonious one - Puma. The emblem was chosen in accordance with the name. The company logo (a puma in a jump) is associated with agility and speed. Which is not surprising, given that the company produces sporting goods.

Lacoste

Another famous animal is the crocodile, depicted on Lacoste products.

The company was named after its founder, Rene Lacoste, who was a professional tennis player and had the nickname “crocodile”. It is because of this that the image of this predatory beast was chosen as the company logo.

Jaguar

Another striking brand that uses a wild cat as a symbol is the Jaguar automobile company. This is one of the most striking logos among all automobile companies.

A jaguar in a jump symbolizes speed, strength, beauty and aggression. These are the qualities that cars of this brand have.

Twitter

The logo of the famous microblogging service Twitter looks like a chirping bird. Did you know that this bird has a name? Her name is Larry. This blue bird is named after the famous basketball player Larry Bird. One of the founders was a fan of his social network Biz Stone. Admired by Bird's success, Stone insisted that this bird be the Twitter logo.

Peugeot

Another well-known car manufacturing company uses an animal as its symbol - Peugeot. The French company's logo depicts a lion with its mouth open. The King of Beasts symbolizes royalty, strength, power and reliability. Peugeot cars are endowed with all these qualities.

Red Bull

The logo of the Red Bull company, which produces the well-known non-alcoholic energy drinks, is two red bulls fighting against a background of a yellow sun. This emblem evokes associations with strength, aggression and resilience. Just what you need for an energy drink!

Ferrari

The Italian automobile company Ferrari uses a prancing horse as its logo. The history of this logo is very interesting. This emblem was invented by the French pilot Francesco Baracca. She was on his plane during the First World War. Francesco was a very skilled pilot and won many air battles. However, he was still shot down by enemies.

Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari, a former famous racing driver, received this emblem from the mother of the Italian pilot, who was delighted with Enzo's success on the track. Ferrari promised the woman that he would use this symbol as an emblem for his racing car. Which is what he did.

Subsequently, Enzo Ferrari founded his own car manufacturing company, the logo of which was exactly the same prancing horse that previously adorned Francesco Baracca’s plane. And she brought Ferrari good luck!

Bacardi

The emblem of everyone's favorite Bacardi rum is a bat. According to legend, the wife of company founder Facundo Bacardi insisted on such a logo. The fact is that in Cuba the bat was considered a symbol of health, prosperity and good luck. Besides, there were a lot of them at her husband's distillery. Now Bacardi rum is popular all over the world. Maybe it was the bat that brought good luck to the company?

Firefox

The Firefox logo is causing a lot of controversy about who is depicted on it. The fact is that firefox is not a fire fox at all, although this is the translation of this phrase that first comes to mind. And an animal from the panda family, which has a fiery color. It is called hunho in China, and in America - firefox. The name of this animal formed the basis for the name Mozilla Firefox. However, the logo still depicts a fox, not a fiery panda. The fact is that the designer who created it considered that in such a small image it would be impossible to depict a recognizable image of a red panda.

WWF

The logo of the World Wildlife Fund WWF depicts giant panda- a rare animal listed in the Red Book. This good-natured animal symbolizes care, responsibility and trust. The panda perfectly reflects the mission of WWF.

P.S.:

Would you like to add your logo to one of our selections?

  4. In fourth place in our list of women's clothing brands, and in 71st place in the BrandZ ranking is Hermes. Unique bags and wallets force women to stand in line for several years, and perhaps such a long wait affects the company’s valuation - only 11,917 million dollars.
  5. 86th place – Zara. The Spanish tycoon, owner of Zara Amancio Ortega, knows how to build a business selling cheap youth clothing. For the budget category, an estimate of $10,335 million is a good result.
  6. 90th place – Paff-Dreams. This brand is valued at $9,600 million, and is the last in the BrandZ ranking in the clothing category.

The buyer, looking at the logo of this well-known company, can easily determine what the bearer of this logo does and produces, and will build an associative series.

For example, McDonald. When a person, while going about his business, sees the golden arch logo, he immediately thinks of a delicious sandwich and crispy potatoes. Seeing a BMW car on the street, it immediately becomes clear that the one who owns this “iron horse” is a very wealthy person who values comfort, reliability and prestige. The logo evokes memories of what product a particular manufacturer is developing.

This article selects the most beautiful logos of famous brands. Many of them have different variations; here the main part of how the story began will be revealed. The variability of the logo is the history of the brand over the years; the development of world culture always leaves an imprint.

Coca-Cola

It is difficult to find a person who would not try this drink at least once in their life. The origins of the beverage company began in 1886 by John Pemberton; the logo was invented at the same time by Frank Mason Robinson. He worked as an accountant and had never encountered drafting work.

However, everything changes and almost a hundred years later in 1969 Lippincott & Margulies, Desgrippes Gobe & Associates, Turner Duckworth modified the Coca-Cola logo. The Spencerian font was completely preserved, we must pay tribute to the creator, because brand recognition has not subsided over many centuries.

McDonald's

Now we know this delicious brand under the name McDonald's, in 1940 the name was McDonald's Famous Barbeque. The founders were Richard and Maurice MacDonald, and the logo was designed by Jim Schindler in the year it was founded. Over the years, the abbreviation was modified and by 1983 it acquired its final form with a red “M” and golden arches.

Fast food lovers know this brand, founded in 1954 by James McLamore and David R. Edgerton. In the same year, a logo was invented, on which the king proudly sat; by the way, this symbol is still relevant, but has undergone changes. The image of two delicious buns turned out to be very popular; in 2008, the logo became more voluminous due to the blue circle.

Pepsi

Caleb Bradham opened a company producing another famous drink in 1893. He came up with the logo for his company himself in 1898. The idea was so successful that they dared to modify it only in 1962 by removing the word “cola” from the name. Until now, the emblem has changed slightly, but the name Pepsi with red and blue colors has remained unchanged.

Apple

Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Ronald Wayne became the founding fathers of the apple empire back in 1979.

In 1976, Ronald Wayne came up with a logo with a very complex abbreviation for the force of gravity. Since the invention was created for young people in 1977, Rob Yanoff came up with an apple called Apple, however, so as not to be confused with a cherry, they decided to bite into the apple.

The brand became so popular and easily recognizable that in 1984 it was decided to use a logo without a name, so the apple was associated with the manufacturer.

Nike

The company was founded in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Philip Nye, but it wasn't until 1971 that designer Carolyn Davidson designed the logo for thirty-five dollars. The goddess Nike became the ideological inspirer. The importing company Blue Ribbon Sports decided to expand the range of products produced by starting the production of sports shoes.

The world-famous “bird” Nike did not like the founding father Philip Knight at all, but he promised to get used to it. The emblem became so recognizable and famous that in 1995 it replaced the name of the Nike company.

Levi's

In 1850, Levi Strauss founded a jeans manufacturing company. The logo still exists today in two versions, white on red and with two horses, designed in 1890, speaking of strength and reliability. Over time it changed and improved, in 1940 - a red emblem, 1969 - wings bat, they all took root in the same way.

In 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin created a search engine that is recognizable all over the world. The logo, a year earlier, was developed by Sergey Brin with the addition of an exclamation mark, but in 2010 Ruth Kedar modified it by removing the sign and making the emblem more perfect. But the final Google view I only purchased it in 2015.

IBM

International Business Machines is the full name of the brainchild of Charles R. Flint, created in 1911. The computer giant has constantly modified its logo from 1886 to the present day.

The original emblem was the symbol of the globe; for a long time it could not be replaced with something more recognizable, but in 1947 the company simply began to use the IBM icon, which became so popular that they changed only the color component and added weight with the help of stripes. According to the creators, this is precisely what expresses reliability and dynamism.

Warner Bros

Many people love the products of this legendary brand, founded in 1918 by Albert, Sam, Jack and Harry Warner. The logo acquired its identity in 1923 thanks to designer Solo Bass.

No matter how much they tried to modify this name, changing the arrangement of letters and adding words, but as numerous attempts show, it was not possible to come up with something better than what was originally intended. Modifications occurred until 2013; the cinema giant, without changing its logo, added only colors and animation solutions to it.

A logo is what makes a company producing certain types of goods recognizable in the sales market. It is this attribute that prevents the company from becoming confused and lost in the eyes of potential buyers.

A company's reputation is built over many years and centuries, and without a recognizable symbol it cannot last long. Of course, a lot changes over time, but the quality should remain unchanged.

Buyers are willing to pay a lot of money for a brand with a good reputation; the logo gives a hint and guides them to the final choice. People line up for the right to own a copy of the famous manufacturer.

NASA

The year the company and logo were created by the Government of the United States of America is 1958. James Modarelli was the creator of the logo for this organization, but not everyone knows the fact that NASA has 3 of them (“meatballs”, “worm” and seal), President Eisenhower personally approved print, and Kennedy made some recommendations for improvement.

Microsoft

Bill Gates and Paul Allen became the founding fathers of the famous company in 1975, and Scott Baker in the same year invented an emblem that was fully consistent with the trends of that time.

The designer himself modified the letters “O” and “S” in 1987. Placing the name exactly along the line was very popular with users.

At the end of the nineties, in the era of maximum prosperity, every user all over the world knew this logo, although it was not initially endowed with anything supernatural.

Adidas

Founded by Adi Dassler in 1920, the company produces sports shoes with the easily recognizable three stripes. It was they who were associated with the logo in 1949.

In the sixties, Kat and Adi Dasler improved the abbreviation by giving it the shape of a trefoil, but in 1997 they still switched to the trendy logo of three stripes shaped like mountain peaks, a symbol of the difficulties and overcoming that the company has faced throughout its history.

Starbucks

In 1971, Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker became the founders of the caffeine chain with the long name Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spices. Terry Heckler designed the logo, inspired by a woodcut of a mermaid.

The logo has undergone many changes over time, with its final appearance in 2011 thanks to the Lippincott and Starbucks International Creative Team replacing the black background with the signature green. The image of a naked siren with a crown on her head, well known even to tea lovers, remains unchanged.

Visa

This company first announced itself in 1970; the creators of the plastic card were Dee Hock and Bank of America.

The logo was designed in 1958, with the words written in two lines using a blue and yellow color scheme. In 2006, Greek Silveria gave the emblem a clear outline and made the font clearer.

Shell

The oil company, led by the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and Shell Transport & Tranding Company Ltd, was founded in 1907. Raymond Louis designed the company symbol. Shell for a long time remained a symbol of this company, it had to be abandoned in 1999.

LEGO

Ole Kirk Christiansen has been the creator of the well-known brand since 1932, but the creator of the abbreviation is not known. The first abbreviation has been in use since 1934 and has undergone many changes in the color and outline of the letters. In 1956, the word System was added to the name, which was later abandoned. The modern logo of the Danish toy manufacturer acquired its current form in 1998.

Hewlett-Packard Company (HP)

Bill Hewlett and David Packard founded their firm in 1939, the same year Landor Associates designed the logo. A striking example reverence for traditions, because over all these years they have hardly changed the emblem of their organization. Only in 2016 the logo was replaced with four stripes symbolizing the letters “NR”.

Canon

Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshido, Saburo Ushida and Takeo Maeda, the men who became the founders of the camera company in 1937, their first brainchild was called Kwanon.

The logo of the Seiki Kogaku Kenyudho company, as it was called, was the goddess of mercy, who was worshiped and revered by Buddhists all over the world. From 1934-1956 it was the symbol of the company, but after a dizzying rise they changed the emblem to the usual red inscription.

In 2010, the fashion house Trussardi celebrated its 100th anniversary, and this year the brand celebrates the 40th anniversary of its signature greyhound logo. In honor of this event, the Italian brand in collaboration with a Japanese illustrator Yuko Shimizu and director James Lima released a short animated film The Sky Watcher with a purebred dog in leading role. website learned in detail the history of the logo Trussardi and remembered other emblems of famous fashion brands.

Trussardi: English Greyhound

The history of the brand began in 1910, when Dante Trussardi opened a workshop for the repair and production of leather gloves in the Italian town of Bergamo. But the greyhound became a symbol of the brand only in 1973. My nephew decided to use it Dante Nicola Trussardi. The Greyhound, graceful, elegant, dynamic and sophisticated, perfectly symbolized the brand's style. In addition to gloves, Nikola began producing other leather goods stamped with the new logo.

« I saw many paintings and ancient Egyptian bas-reliefs depicting these animals, and was completely amazed by their beauty and incredible elegance.", - said Nicola about the logo he chose, which has become synonymous with Italian quality.

In the new video Trussardi The Sky Watcher, released to celebrate the logo's anniversary, a animated statue of an English greyhound chases a magical rabbit through the streets of Milan, bringing the city's monuments to life. But by morning the miracles end, and the bronze greyhound returns to its place - to the entrance to the boutique of the Italian fashion house.

“We wanted not to go into explanations about the history of the brand, and gave preference to emotions, beautiful pictures and music”, - admitted the creative director of the brand Gaia Trussardi.

Chanel: Intertwined "C"

Logo Chanel- one of the most famous in the fashion world. Two intertwined letters “C” can be seen on all the brand’s products, but the symbol first appeared in 1921 on a bottle of the legendary perfume Chanel No. 5. There are several versions of creating an emblem in the form of two “Cs”. According to the most popular - these are the initials of the most Coco Chanel, which she drew shortly before the opening of the first boutique Chanel. Adherents of the second, less common version, attribute the authorship of the logo to Mikhail Vrubel, who drew the symbol introduced by Coco in the 1920s, much earlier - in 1886. It is known that the ornament in the form of joining two horseshoes, symbolizing double luck, was fashionable at the end of the 19th century. Therefore, many researchers believe that the similarity of the emblem of the fashion house and Vrubel’s sketch is a mere coincidence. Although there is another version: this emblem is just a reminder of the forged ears that decorated the doors of the orphanage in which Chanel grew up. One way or another, Coco was right with her choice of logo; it brought good luck to the House.

Versace: Medusa

Fashion house symbol Versace- the head of a jellyfish - appeared in 1978, when a 34-year-old Gianni Versace opened his first boutique in one of the most prestigious areas of Milan, Via della Spiga. Legend has it that shortly before the opening, the designer was walking in the garden of his mansion in Reggio Calabria and noticed the marble figure of the Gorgon Medusa. The most famous of the three gorgon sisters with a woman's face and writhing snakes instead of hair, who could turn a person into stone with one glance, would be ideal for the role of the brand logo. Gianni had always been interested in mythology and classical literature and decided that in a new context, the head of a mythological creature would symbolize fatal attraction. It is in the role of a seductress that the fashion house Versace I saw my customer.

Burberry: Knight

English stamp logo Burberry appeared in 1901, when founded in 1856 by a young Thomas Burberry The brand has already become quite famous. From the very beginning the products Burberry was different high quality fabrics, comfort and practicality. During the First World War, at the request of the British Royal Air Force, Thomas developed a waterproof raincoat (the same famous trench coat). And in 1901, when the founder of the brand received an order to produce full uniforms for officers, the question arose of creating a trademark Burberry. Then the brand’s emblem appeared - the figure of a knight-rider in armor and with a spear in his hands, who was depicted against the background of a flag with the inscription “prorsum”, which translated from English means “forward”. This motto reflected the desire for even more progressive inventions, and the spear was a symbol of protecting the traditions of quality.

Lacoste: crocodile

Sports brand Lacoste was founded by a famous tennis player in his time Rene Lacoste. The Frenchman, whom his father sent to England to receive a prestigious education, became a 10-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments. But at the peak of Rene’s career, doctors discovered tuberculosis in the tennis player. His sports career the end came, but Lacoste conceived a new project. In 1933 he, together with André Housing created a company La Societe Chemise Lacoste, which produced T-shirts for tennis players, golfers and sailing enthusiasts. The crocodile logo appeared even before the creation of the brand. The fact is that journalists have long called the tennis player nothing more than a crocodile. “I was nicknamed “Crocodile” after my argument with the captain of our team, - said Rene. - He promised to buy a crocodile leather suitcase that I liked if I won an important match for the national team.” Lacoste was not at all offended by the journalists and sewed an image of a crocodile onto his sports uniform. A small toothy alligator was painted by a famous artist and friend Rene Robert George. It was this famous crocodile that moved to the brand’s items Lacoste.

Ralph Lauren: polo player

Ralph Lauren, once the son of Jewish immigrants Ralph Lifshitz, founded the company in 1967 Polo Fashions and already in 1968 he opened his first boutique. The brand's world-famous logo dates back to 1971, when Ralph first gave women a men's polo shirt.

“My wife has an excellent sense of style: she can choose such a shirt and jacket in a men's store that people then ask where we got these clothes,- Ralph told about his innovation. - Her image reminded me Katharine Hepburn in her youth, athletic and non-fashion, in the image of a horsewoman with hair flying in the wind».

The designer not only created a polo shirt for the ladies, but also placed a logo of a polo player riding a horse on the cuff. Lauren himself admitted that for him, playing polo has always been the personification of wealth, luxury and power. Coming from a poor family, he always dreamed of becoming part of high society, join him. The designer's dreams came true, and the figurine of a polo player, which symbolized luxury for Lauren, is now associated with classic American style.

Fred Perry: laurel wreath

Fred Perry- famous English tennis player of the 1930s. He founded his company in 1952. It all started with a collaboration between Fred and a former Austrian football player Tibby Wagner, who came up with the idea of selling elastic wrist bands under the name Perry. Soon the athletes expanded production and began producing sports shirts Fred Perry. Of course, buyers associated the name of the popular tennis player with the famous Wimbledon tournament, and they willingly purchased the brand’s products. It is known that Fred, an avid smoker, initially wanted to make a smoking pipe the logo of the brand. He did not think at all that such a symbol was not suitable as an emblem for sportswear. But, fortunately, Wagner dissuaded Perry with the words “the girls won’t like it.” The partner suggested an alternative:

"What about the laurel wreath you wear on your jacket and sweater Davis Cup.

Since 1934, when he won Wimbledon, Fred has always worn this symbol. Despite the fact that relations with English club Things didn't work out for Perry, Fred requested permission to use the laurel wreath directly from the director of the Wimbledon Club. He was very happy that their symbol would be used by the famous tennis player, and agreed. Subsequently, clothing brands Fred Perry with a recognizable wreath became the uniform of a number of subcultures of the twentieth century, in particular mods and skinheads.

Almost every popular company has redrawn its logo at least once during its entire existence. The reasons for this could be different - a change in the direction of activity, rebranding, the need to keep up with the times, a way to keep up with competitors.

Each of these enterprises certainly has its own interesting story about the evolution of the trademark. We have prepared an interesting collection that shows the development of the symbols of global companies that are today recognizable throughout the world. You will see how very different the very first logos were from the ones we are used to today.

Technology and IT

Canon

Founders: Saburo Uchida and Goro Yoshida.
Year: 1937.
Country: Japan.

The global company for the production of photographic equipment and other devices was originally called Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in Japan. The first camera was released under the Kwanon brand. The emblem was the image of the Buddhist god of mercy. Soon the brand name was changed to Canon.

In 1947, Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory was renamed Canon Camera Co. This was an important step in its development.

The improved Canon logo we see today was introduced back in 1956. It is noteworthy that 58 years later it looks just as stylish and presentable.

Nokia

Founder: Knut Frederik Idestam.
Year: 1865.
Country: Finland.

Nokia got its name from the Nokianvirta River, which flowed next to the factory (then, in 1868, it was a simple paper mill). Then the first emblem with fish was applied to all products.

In the early 20s of the 20th century, the companies Nokia Corporation, Finnish Rubber Works (production of rubber products) and Finnish Cable Works (cable production) merged. The latter launched a new electronics department in the 60s, after which, in 1963-1965, two devices were released - the first radiotelephone and a modem.

Over the next 30 years, the company's logo was modified several times. The current logo is the word Nokia with the slogan “Connecting people”.

Intel

Founders: Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore.
Year: 1968.
Country: USA.

When Gordon Moore, one of the founders of a major electronics company, suggested calling the company Integrated Electronics, his friend Robert Noyce agreed but recommended shortening the name to Intel.

During the entire existence of the enterprise, the logo changed twice. Its current version was approved back in 2005.

Microsoft Windows

Developer: Microsoft Corporation.
Year of manufacture: 1985.
Country: USA.

The corporate graphic sign of the first versions of Windows, which, by the way, were not full-fledged operating systems, but were only extensions for the MS-DOS operating system, looks like a blue window.

Starting with Windows 3.x, in the early 90s, 4 new colors appear in the sign - red, green, blue and yellow, and its shape becomes wave-like, which adds dynamism to the design.

With the release of Windows XP in 2001, the symbol again underwent impressive changes. Although the idea with four colors remained intact, the drawing became clearer and not as cumbersome as the previous one. In addition to its association with windows, this sign is shaped like a flag in many ways.

But the latest symbol, developed for Windows 8, sharply departed from the usual framework. Swiss style, simplicity and lightness, lack of realistic graphics - these are the basic rules that guided the designers when creating it.

Apple

Founders: Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne.
Year: 1976.
Country: USA.

The first emblem of the future global corporation was proposed by one of the founders of Apple, Ronald Wayne. An engraving of Newton under a tree, surrounded by a massive ribbon with the inscription "Apple Computer Co.", looks quite interesting, but only from an artistic point of view.

Soon Steve Jobs decided to change the Apple brand name. A designer named Rob Yanov helped him with this. The “rainbow” bitten apple served the company faithfully from 1977 to 1998.

Subsequent Apple symbols changed only their color - at first the apple was repainted in laconic black, and since 2007 it was made metallic and reflections were added. The form remained intact.

Samsung

Founder: Lee Byung-chul.
Year: 1938.
Country: South Korea.

The word “Samsung” itself means “three stars” in Korean. In the company's first branded blocks, the image of stars was used in several versions.

The new logo, which is still relevant today, was introduced in 1993. Then the company turned 55 years old. The stylized Samsung lettering inside a blue ellipse has become a well-known and recognizable logo throughout the world.

LG

Founder: Koo In Ho.
Year: 1947 (opening of the first company of the LG Group conglomerate - Lak Hui Chemical).
Country: South Korea.

LG Electronics (Lucky Goldstar) was formed in 1995 as a result of the merger of two companies - Lucky Chemical Ind. (formerly Lak Hui Chemical) and Goldstar.

The company's slogan is “Life is Good”. The letters "LG" in the logo are colored gray, and the brand name is made in the form of a peculiar red smiley.

Auto and Moto

Mercedes-Benz

Founders: Karl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach.

In 1909, the still famous three-pointed star first became a trademark of Daimler Motoren Gessellschaft (DMG). What does this symbol mean? There are several legends, one of which is the most common. Since the company was engaged in the production of not only cars, but also engines - marine and aviation, a star with three rays denoted the success of this brand in three directions - on land, on water and in the air.

At the same time, Karl Benz, the creator of the first gasoline-powered vehicle, used a laurel wreath as an emblem with the word “Benz” inside it.

In 1926, having survived the First world war, DMG and Benz merged to form the Daimler-Benz concern. The new emblem also appeared as a result of the merger of the signs of these two enterprises - a three-pointed star was placed in a laurel wreath, and after some time the wreath was replaced with a regular circle.
