May. As a couple

Spain, Tenerife island

We vacationed on the island of Tenerife in May 2014. We were afraid that it would be cold and we wouldn’t be able to fully rest. But our fears were dispelled as soon as we got to Tenerife. It was a hot summer day warm weather, except in the evening it was cool, and we wore sweaters.

We stopped in the southern part of Tenerife, at the resort of Las Americas, the most popular and colorful resort. The volcano mountain protects this resort from winds and rains, so it is always warmer here than in the northern part of the island.

There are different beaches here. There was a white and black sand beach next to our hotel. We almost saw snow-white beaches and completely black from volcanic sand. The beaches in Tenerife are works of art of nature itself, the locals are proud of them, and each of them has its own name. There are merchants on the beach selling fruit, but they are much more expensive, it’s better to go to the store.

The Las Americas resort has a very developed infrastructure; there are many boutiques, shops and entertainment centers. While walking around the shops, my wife noticed that there were cheap cosmetics and perfumes. Naturally, we bought several pieces for my wife at once. The only nice thing is that in most boutiques you can bargain well.

Among the excursions we took a trip to the Teide volcano, to the water park and Loro Park. In Loro Parque we watched several interesting shows and performances: a parrot show, tricks with trained dolphins, walruses, seals and huge killer whales. We also visited a neighboring island called La Gomera, from which Christopher Columbus set off to discover America.

The holiday turned out to be complete and met all our expectations. Brought home great mood and a bunch of photos!

May. With family

Spain, Tenerife island

My wife and I vacationed in Tenerife in May last year. We thought it would be very hot, but the climate turned out to be very mild and comfortable. For several days the water in the ocean was cold due to the current, during which time we rented a car and went to explore the island on our own. Renting a car cost us 50 euros per day, by the way, the car was good, almost new. The roads are excellent, there are signs and markings everywhere, everything is clear, so when we rented a car, we didn’t even bother without a navigator.

We vacationed in the south of the island, but after traveling we liked the north more. There are fewer Russian and picturesque places there. We visited Loro Parque and really liked it! Tourists who come here with a guide on an excursion run in a hurry to have time to see everything. We calmly watched all the animal shows, walked around, did a bunch of good photos. You can easily buy a ticket to the park at the entrance.

In the south of Tenerife, there are many restaurants, a pedestrian promenade where you can walk, sit, and watch a stunning sunset.

Tenerife resort is very romantic and calm. There is no rush or fuss. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Shopping

Tenerife - special economic zone, here you can make profitable purchases and buy souvenirs for friends.

Here is Elena’s review from Moscow:

“You can buy good cosmetics here at duty-free prices, I regret that I didn’t take more. We also shopped in the capital of the island, where there are many shopping centers and in our stores in Las Americas. The sellers are friendly. They grow pearls on the island and we bought a necklace from a pearl shop. The choice is rich and the prices are not scary. If anyone is interested, you can buy..."

And more reviews from May tourists

Natalia, Moscow, 2015:

“Spring Tenerife greeted us with sun and warmth, and in the following days too. Frightening predictions did not come true! Don’t pay attention to the forecasts on the Internet; raincoats and umbrellas will not be useful in Las Americas! One blouse or light windbreaker is enough. They can be useful for excursions and walks by the sea. New to Tenerife for us - a lot of sun! On my last trip (also in May) north to Puerto de la Cruz it was rainy and cooler.”

Tanyusha, St. Petersburg, 2017:

“Oh, Tenerife, how I want to come back to you again and again! My friend and I went at the end of May, the weather was superb - very warm during the day, and in the evening it became cooler. I want to say that the sun is still strong, you can get burned quickly, so without sunscreen(from 30 spf) it’s better not to go to the beach. The tan here turns out golden. We went there - very unusual. The boat trip sank into my soul - we saw a family of whales playing among the waves, there are simply no words! I took a lot of photos! True, I got a little seasick on the boat.”

Tenerife at the end of May is perfect for a holiday. A magical place where there is no threat to health. You can forget about long acclimatization, creeping reptiles, magnetic storms and sharp atmospheric changes. Pleasant warm weather, very few rainy days (we saw no precipitation at all during the week). When going for evening walks, I recommend taking a windbreaker with you - it will come in handy.

Our family vacation was on end-April-beginning May. We went to the island for the first time, so we were very worried about how favorable the weather would be in Tenerife in early May. Much to my surprise, everything went great! We managed to walk through museums, climb the Teide volcano, sunbathe, and even swim to our hearts’ content in the sea. In the mornings the water is quite cool, but by lunchtime near the shore it had time to warm up well. We were recommended to use the hotel pool, but we chose the beach and have never regretted it. We have never seen jellyfish.
