White Sea photos in winter. Russia

For a long time I wanted to photograph the White Sea in winter... I imagined ice waves crashing against the shore, spray from storms frozen on the branches of coastal trees and bushes...

During a short trip along the Kola Peninsula, on the White Sea, I only had the opportunity to photograph for a day, but it was truly magical.... The day began, as usual, long before dawn. It's almost 11 am, and the sun doesn't even think of rising... Frosty fog envelops the surrounding mountains...

And on the opposite side, the moon is leaning towards the horizon, in the classic northern range of colors:

The winter sea is generally very interesting for filming. It presents hundreds of stories for the observant viewer. The fact is that during the freezing process, one of the most powerful natural phenomena - the ebb and flow of the tides - does not stop. At the beginning of winter, they are even stronger than twenty-degree frosts!

The sea advances, is captured by a crust of ice... and then the water begins to slowly recede, leaving an icy shore with a variety of textures and patterns. The footage clearly shows maximum level at high tide.

In flatter places, the tide reveals countless patterns...

And here, “basalt columns” of ice are visible:

Wandering along the coast, I came across a small lagoon, in which, due to the topography, there was still water under the ice. The ice seemed to already support the weight of a person, but at the same time it crunched quite loudly. It looked something like this:

Carefully walking on the ice, each time I was afraid of falling into a possible deep depression between the stones at the bottom. Swim with sharp negative temperature It didn't pull at all. :) But this place was the most beautiful. For example, ice roses:

These magical flowers form on strongly protruding rocks during low tide. The water, which has managed to become covered with a crust of ice, falls onto the stone and breaks, forming some semblance of an ice flower.

Around the “flowers” there is also a picturesque pattern of frost lying directly on the ice:

One could look at the ice formations endlessly, but with every minute the crust began to crunch more and more. It was a sign that the tide was coming...

A little more, and you could end up in a water-ice trap, because the fragile ice, even having risen a little due to the tide, will no longer be able to withstand the weight of a person... And then you will have to scoop up to your knees (?) in water with ice to land. ..

After taking a few more shots, I left. But I firmly decided to return to the fabulous shores of the White Sea more than once...

The White Sea is one of the most mysterious and picturesque bodies of water in Karelia:
petroglyphs and rock paintings are carved on its coast primitive people;
in its waters lie the Valaam and Solovetsky archipelagos with Orthodox strongholds;
Ancient pagan sanctuaries and mysterious stone labyrinths were found on its islands.

What is known about him?

White Sea, often called the only inland sea Russia is actually a vast bay of the Arctic Ocean. This is one of the smallest seas: its water area is only 90 thousand square meters. m.

The sea includes several large bays ( Kandalaksha in the northwest, Mezensky in the east, North Dvina and Onega in the south ). Bays were often named after bays. sea shores: this is how the White Sea coast in the northwest is called Kandalaksha, Terek and Karelian , in the territory from Kem to Onega the coast is called Pomeranian, the northern coast of the sea is called Winter, southern - Summer .

The unique charm of the harsh northern nature The White Sea is characterized by alternating ebb and flow tides. During the day, the water advances and retreats twice, sometimes exposing strips of the shore, sometimes forming large spills, while average height tides can range from 0.6 m to 7.7 m.

Despite the fact that the climate on the White Sea is quite harsh, in winter it does not freeze completely - a strip of fast ice forms near the coast, but ice does not form in the middle part of the sea. In summer, the water sometimes warms up to +16-18°C. But regardless of the temperature of the water, the sea is full of life.

Beluga whales, walruses, seals are observed here, sea hares, fished from the bottom starfish, many birds nest along the banks. On the White Sea in industrial scale get kelp or " seaweed" And for experienced fishermen there is real freedom here - in the waters one can catch navaga, cod, White Sea herring, flounder, mackerel and valuable species of red fish: trout and salmon.

My topic today is the White Sea, but it is not as famous as, for example, and you can’t relax on it like, for example, on, but the Motherland should know its heroes, and they are no worse than “foreign” attractions. The White Sea is located in Russia. ( 11 photos)

And it is fenced on three sides by land, in the north by the Kola Peninsula, in the west is the city of Belomorsk, in the east is Arkhangelsk. The White Sea is the smallest sea in Russia, it is smaller and even smaller. The area of the White Sea is only 90.8 thousand km². The White Sea belongs to the Arctic Ocean. It is interesting that the two seas, the White and Barents Seas, are separated by a line drawn from one cape to the other. The border is considered to be an oblique line from the cape Kola Peninsula to the cape of the Kanin Peninsula.

The White Sea cannot be called deep either; the maximum depth can be 340 meters, the average depth is 67 meters. Several constantly replenish the water supply in the sea large rivers, Onega, Kem and others. Of course, when talking about the sea, the first thing that comes to mind is the origin of the name. It is not known for certain why the “White Sea”, but there are versions that it was called that because it is located in the northern part of the country and quite often the sea can be seen frozen.

Well, or shrouded in large ice floes, the thickness of which can reach one and a half meters, which is why they called it white because it is frozen. But according to another version, it is believed that the sea is constantly in some kind of fog or rain, and foreigners who first sailed to Russia in the 14th century could call it white. By the way, because large quantity crime at sea fresh water The White Sea is quite non-salty, which actually allows it to freeze; the salinity of the water here is 26 ppm.

For comparison, in the saltiest sea, 30% percent of minerals. The water temperature in winter ranges from -1 to +3 °C. In summer it is quite warm here, the water warms up to 15 °C. Large city nearby is Arkhangelsk. There is no need to think that because of its northern location there are very few people here, and life is frozen, the population of Arkhangelsk is 355.8 thousand people, and the city is developing.

In general, thanks to such a large maritime center, all coastal regions are steadily developing. Until the 18th century, the White Sea was one of the largest sea routes through which ships carrying goods from other countries arrived in Russia. But even now the White Sea is filled with cargo ships, it is such a “ship” artery of the country.

Archaeologists note that traces of human presence here date back to the 2nd century. But the development by Russians began in the 9th century. But at 14, the construction of seaports and a fleet was already in full swing. One can even say that the White Sea played a big role in the formation and development of the state. If you are interested, the shooting of Pavel Lungin’s famous film “The Island” took place on an island in the White Sea.

The nature of the White Sea is truly beautiful and almost untouched by man. Beautiful and unique forests near the sea inspire many writers and artists. It is also interesting that the sea can be divided into two levels, this is an area with steep, steep banks and vice versa with gentle and smooth slopes. A section of the map near the White Sea. The White Sea is in the upper right corner of "Whitr Sea".

Since the weather here is constant winds, they were even given their own names here, for example, the northwestern (cold wind) is called glubnik, golomyanik, and the southeastern one is called obednik. The local waters are rich in flora.

The fauna of the waters is very diverse and unique, because this is where (beluga whales) live and create their rare offspring. It is impossible not to mention mass gatherings seals, as they are also called “beds”. Unfortunately, poachers also know this and try in every possible way to harm their own, native nature, destroying thousands of rare representatives of the fish world. White Sea photo from space.

Today's topic is the White Sea, but it is not as famous as for example Seychelles, but you won’t have a rest on it like, for example, on the Yellow Sea, but the Motherland should know its heroes, and they are no worse than “foreign” attractions. The White Sea is located in Russia.

The White Sea is inland waters Russia, it is relatively small in size, only the Aral Sea is smaller. The White Sea borders the Barents Sea in the north, and has access to the North arctic ocean, which has a huge impact on the ebb and flow of the tides.

The White Sea is shallow, its average depth is about 70 meters, and the deepest point is in the center of the water area and is 340 meters. But despite its small size and depth, in the White Sea there are often quite strong storms with wave heights of up to six meters. Most often similar sea disturbances take place in the fall.

IN early years Trade with European countries passed through the Dvina and the White Sea; the port of Kholmogory was the first to be founded, but over time its capacity became insufficient and in 1584 the port of New Kholmogory was founded, now known to us as the city of Arkhangelsk. But due to the founding of St. Petersburg, most trade relations with Europe moved to the Baltic Sea.

The White Sea is covered with ice for more than 6 months a year, while stationary ice (fast ice) forms near the coast, and in the central waters there may be floating ice floes with a thickness of 40-60 centimeters, but in especially harsh winters thickness floating ice can reach up to one and a half meters. The White Sea is rich in fish and fishing has existed here since time immemorial.

yellow sea

The next sea with a colorful name is the Yellow Sea. The name comes from the sediments of the rivers, whose waters carry yellow waters due to the color of the clay along the banks. And sometimes it happens sandstorms when yellow sand fills the entire coastal part of the sea. Moreover, storms can be so strong that visibility is practically zero and at this time even shipping stops.

The Yellow Sea washes the shores of China and both Koreas, and in the east it borders on the East China Sea. The sea is shallow, its average depth is about 40 meters, and the maximum is only 106 meters. IN winter period The Yellow Sea near the coast is covered with ice, but this period is short-lived and the ice formed is thin enough that the ice does not interfere with shipping.

The Yellow Sea is located in monsoon region and hurricanes are common here from June to October. The Yellow Sea is rich in its marine life and fishing here is carried out on an industrial scale. The Yellow Sea is not a tourist center and the few hotels on the coast are most often visited by indigenous residents of China and Korea.

But in recent years The Yellow Sea brings some surprises and turns from yellow to green. This is due to the invasion seaweed which are dense green stripe fill coastal waters.

But local residents are already accustomed to these natural anomalies and do not pay any attention to them. special attention on a green carpet of algae.

The Yellow Sea algae themselves are harmless, but they still cause harm to the environment. marine nature. Firstly, they absorb huge amounts of oxygen from the water, thereby making local waters poorer and harming their inhabitants.

And secondly, when rotting, hydrogen sulfide gas is released, which is not the most in the best possible way affects surrounding ecology. And given the enormous scale of the invasion, we can definitely say that it is not beneficial surrounding nature both in the waters of the Yellow Sea and on the coast.

Enormous forces and resources are being allocated to combat this invasion of Yellow Sea algae, but so far nature is stronger, and it is not possible to defeat this anomaly, only to slightly reduce the harmful effects of this phenomenon.
