Short life The tallest people often had a sad life, and excessive attention often brought only frustration and inconvenience. Our ranking of the biggest people contains everyone known to the world“giants” with a height of more than 2.45 m.

Bernard Coyne

American, born in 1897 and lived only 23 years. Officially recorded height is 2.49m. But there is evidence that at death he reached a height of 2.54m. Has suffered from gigantism since early age. In 1918, in the Guinness Book of Records, it ranks first. That same year he was denied conscription for war. He suffered from liver disease, which is why he eventually died; in 1921 he was buried in Iowa, USA.

Born in 1921, in the USA, Montana. The only giant on the list who has a twin sister and also lived to be 59 years old. Height – 2.49m. As a result of the disease acromegaly, from the age of 10 he began to grow rapidly, unlike his sister. By the age of thirty, the age difference between the twins was 75 cm, which became another record listed in the Guinness Book. In the last years of his life he suffered greatly from scoliosis.

Vikas, died recently in 2007. The young giant, suffering from a brain tumor, left the world at the age of 21. Having a height of 251 cm, Vikas was not shy about going out; the friends and acquaintances around him got used to the “giant” and treated him with great respect and compassion.

Height is more than 251 cm. In 2010, he underwent a course of treatment, with the help of which doctors were able to stop his growth. Sultan suffers from gigantism due to a pituitary tumor. He was never able to finish school, but despite difficulties with mobility (he walks only with crutches), he got a job on a farm, where he easily trimmed trees, changed light bulbs, and performed all sorts of tasks that accompanied his growth. Naturally, the constant shortcomings that the Sultan faces prevent him from fully feeling himself in environment. Problems with the choice of clothes, and especially shoes, inconveniences with transportation, etc. In 2013, the Turkish “giant” successfully married a girl who barely reaches his elbow.

There were 20 children in the Canadian Beaupré family, of which Edward was the eldest and the only one who became so tall. Initially an ordinary child, by the age of 17 he had grown to 210 cm. Pain in the joints from constant growth caused Edward a lot of difficulties, but despite this, he grew up as a calm and friendly person. Beaupre is one of the few giants who had good physical strength. After several unsuccessful attempts to get a regular job, Beaupre signs a contract with the circus as a stunt strongman athlete. In one of his amazing performances, Edward threw an adult horse onto his shoulders. By the age of 21, the guy was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Two years later, from a hemorrhage in the lung, Edward died. At the time of his death, his height was 255 cm. Beaupre died in 1904, but due to the selfishness of some and the scientific curiosity of others, the embalmed body of the giant was constantly resold. Only in 1990, at the insistence of relatives, the remains of Edward Beaupre were buried in his homeland, in Canada, in the town of Willow Bunch, where a monument to the polite strongman and “giant” was now erected.

The top five in the ranking is opened by a man with a gigantic arm span of 4 meters. Vaino also holds the title of the tallest soldier ever to serve in the army. By the age of 21, a native of Helsinki (Finland), weighed 197 kg. with a height of 222 cm. Having stopped at these figures, suddenly, by the age of 30, Vaino began to grow sharply. The Finn lived 54 years. The official record is 255 cm.

Died in 2014, the Ukrainian several times won the title of the tallest man of our time. Until the age of twelve, an ordinary young man from the village of Podolyantsy was distinguished only by good mental development. But by the age of 12, he was diagnosed with a tumor in the brain, after an operation to remove it and an accidental disruption of the pituitary gland by doctors, the boy’s metabolism was disrupted forever. Leonid began to grow sharply and by the age of forty, his height was officially recorded at 257 cm. One of the most modest “giants”, he did not like to feel the admiring glances of passers-by, felt uncomfortable in the presence of journalists and even refused representatives of the Guinness Book of Records several times . Like many other overly tall people, Leonid found it difficult to move. Unable to purchase a suitable car, Stadnik acquired an excellent assistant and friend - a horse. Shoe size 62 also caused a lot of trouble, and I had to alter my clothes myself.

From the age of 16, for a still inexplicable reason, John began to grow very quickly. Several sources note that there were cases when in just a couple of months he grew by 14–16 cm. He experienced severe pain and discomfort from a curved spine. The crooked back made it impossible to measure it in full height. Official maximum height noted at 263 cm. An American died at 37 years old.

The phenomenon of Joe's enormous height of 268 cm was his weight - only 120 kg.

African American, a native of Tennessee, born fourth in large family out of fourteen people. Rapid growth Joe began to develop at the age of 13, and subsequently caused the disease ankylosis. Thin and tall, Joe was called the “Negro Giant.” Joe could not move independently, relying on crutches, he walked to his homemade cart pulled by goats and went to the station, where he sold postcards and cartoons with his image. Despite his cheerful disposition, Rogan categorically refused to participate in any circus performances or shows. The title holder of the tallest man of African descent died aged around 35–40 ( exact date birth unknown).

Winner of the title of tallest man according to the Guinness Book of Records. Already at the age of 10, he was unusually tall among his peers (at this age his height was already 198 cm and his weight was 100 kg). The cause of excessive growth was a pituitary tumor and acromegaly. It is noted that Robert's greatest height was measured shortly before his death. Weighing 199 kg, his height was 272 cm. Robert managed to graduate from school, go to university, and at the age of 20 get a job in a circus, with which he toured the United States. The popularity of the tallest American is proven by the fact that more than forty thousand people came to his funeral.

The listed ranking of the greatest people represents precisely those individuals whose growth reputable organizations were able to record. But there is an unofficial list of the biggest people. As for the tallest person living in Russia, the first line of the official ranking belongs to Alexandru Sizonenco. A former basketball player with a height of 245 cm. The reason for Alexander’s great height is the same as that of almost all other “giants” - a pituitary tumor.

The champion among all giants has an unattainable, enormous height. The lack of official recognition does not give the right to forget about our Russian hero, born in 1878 in a small village named after him - Velikanovka.

As if from epics about heroes, Fedor could sleep 24 hours a day, but when he woke up, he ate for four adults. At the age of 8, he was able to lift an adult. By the age of 12, Fedor’s height had exceeded 2 meters. The hero made money in the circus by demonstrating to the admiring public how a brick shatters into small pieces with one blow of the palm, raised a platform with musicians and bent thick metal rods. Fedor died in 1912 from lung disease. Eyewitnesses recorded a height of 285 cm - a world record.

Having become acquainted with the fate of the greatest people, it is not difficult to conclude that the life of many of them was quite difficult and painful. Unfortunately, in Lately The number of people suffering from “giantism” has increased sharply. Sprained joints, curvature of the spine, leg disease - all this is a small list of torments experienced by excessively tall people.

Clothes and shoes are made for him on special request, because a size like his is simply impossible to find in stores, and tailoring to order costs a pretty penny. In addition, it may not fit in every vehicle and in most rooms it feels uncomfortable, closed like in a box.

The most big people planets are described in this article. How do they live with such growth, the reason for such growth and who is in first place among these representatives.

China is the shortest country, but it has the tallest people. His name is Bao Xishun, 236 centimeters tall. This is official data. Although, the record growth still belongs to former basketball player Zhao Liang. One day, a man was admitted to the hospital and was supposed to undergo surgery on his leg. The doctors, noticing the tall patient, measured his height, which was 246 centimeters, that is, 10 centimeters higher than Bao Xishun. And the age of this patient was 27 years old. However, he did not become a Guinness Book record holder. The press said that the basketball player did not end his career because he received a serious leg injury. And he ended his career more than 10 years ago. Zhao Liang could not find a job, but in 2006 he became an artist in a traveling circus. And he no longer has any problems. Parents, naturally, are always worried about their son. However, not because of his height, but about his future as a family man.

Russia also distinguished itself with giants. A big man, an ordinary peasant, lived in the Staroselskaya volost of the Vitebsk province (in today's Belarus). His name was Fedor Andreevich Makhnov. There is information that he was the tallest in the world in history, his height was 285 centimeters. However, there are doubts, because the record was not recorded. Fedor was born on June 6, 1878 into an ordinary poor family. His entire family was slightly above average height. However, already in his youth, Fedor’s height was 250 centimeters, his palm was 32 centimeters long, and his foot was 51 centimeters long. Makhnov's weight was 182 kilograms. But it is worth noting that he was strong and, after a while, worked in a circus and traveled a lot. But he didn’t always like this life; when he got tired of everything, he returned home. He had a wife with whom he lived in the village of Gorbachi. The village was called the “Giant Farm”. Fyodor's wife, Efrosinya Lebedeva, was also not short, approximately 215 centimeters. They had five children, all under two meters tall.

Unfortunately, Fedor died young. He was only 34 years old, this happened on August 28, 1912. Presumable fatal disease had a lung disease. But there are many versions, one of them is deliberate poisoning by envious people. The giant was buried in the local cemetery. Some time later, in 1939, the body was exhumed for scientific purposes. The height on the tombstone indicates 16-year-old Fedor - 3 arshins 9 vershoks. However, after that he grew another 31 centimeters.

The giant is our contemporary. Until recently the most big man planet lived in Ukraine, in the village of Podolyantsy. The man, with a height of 253 centimeters and a weight of 200 kilograms, was named Leonid Stadnik. He died at 44 due to a cerebral hemorrhage. His palm was recognized as the largest on Earth - 31 centimeters.

Lenya was born in 1971. From childhood, he was different from other children. But what distinguished him was not only his height, but also his excellent school knowledge, after graduating from school he received an excellent student certificate. Institute also came easily to him, and he received a diploma with honors. Stadnik became a certified veteran. The growth rate became astonishing at the age of 12. It was at this time that the operation to remove the tumor from the brain took place. Unfortunately, inexperienced surgeons damaged the pituitary gland of the brain. This is associated with Leonid’s impaired metabolism. As for the size of the shoe, it was 62 centimeters long, he was a little short of centimeters to become an absolute record holder. In this matter absolute record the length of the foot is recorded behind Ajaz Ahmet (Pakistan). A Pakistani's foot is size 74, which is planetary size. Since, naturally, the stores did not sell shoes of this size, for some time he simply could not even leave the apartment. But the world is not without good people. Ukrainians specially made boots for Leni. The material was gypsum. They made a last out of it because the regular material was too expensive.

What is definitely interesting is that Stadnik did not want to be recorded in the Guinness Book. And for a long time he did not allow himself to be officially measured. But the persuasion was still strong, and in 2007 the measurement took place. After which he became a record holder. Since a year later the measurement parameters changed slightly, Leonid flatly refused to re-measure, this influenced the deprivation of his status as a record holder. He didn't want unnecessary attention.

The tallest man in the world is Sultan Kesen (Türkiye). Height - 251 centimeters (official data). This growth is explained by a tumor of the pituitary gland. Although the parents are absolutely normal people with no special features. His movement occurs only with the use of crutches. Beginning in 2010, he underwent radiotherapy, which contributed to the fact that his growth was stopped.

However, illness prevented me from finishing high school. And he began to work on the farm, with the help of his high abilities he easily trimmed trees, changed light bulbs and did a lot useful work. There were serious difficulties with shoes, clothes, and driving a car.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Robert Pershing Wadlow is recognized as the world's largest man. This man was born in Manistee (Michigan) in 1918. He, like all other representatives of the “giant” world, suffered from a tumor of the pituitary gland, as well as acromegaly. His height increased throughout his life, and the young man lived only 22 years. When he died, he was 272 centimeters tall and weighed 199 kilograms. His parents were of average height, this also applies to his brothers and sisters. As for Robert, until the age of 4 he had all the signs of absolutely normal development, but as he got older, his height began to increase at a significant rate. It was already noticeable. At the age of eight, his height was 188 centimeters; a year later he could already carry his father up the stairs in his arms. At the age of ten, he already weighed 100 kilograms and was 198 centimeters tall. At his age, his height was 254 centimeters and his weight was 177 kilograms. His popularity gave him a gift - shoes were made for him for free. Robert's shoe size is 37AA.

Wadlow received his Abitur at age 18 and attended university. He worked in the circus and traveled. Began to participate in 1938 public speaking which aroused unprecedented interest. The people called him “the good giant.” His hand (from the wrist to the middle finger) was 32.4 centimeters long. Naturally, the growth had Negative influence to your health. His legs were very sensitive to movement, so he was helped by crutches.

Robert was last measured in 1940. Height was 272 centimeters. A little later, the young man expressed a desire to speak at Independence Day in Manistee, then he rubbed his leg with a crutch. This caused an infection that developed into sepsis. The doctors were powerless. The tallest man in the world died while sleeping on July 15, 1940. The grave was concreted at the request of the family. On the monument, which is higher than all the others, it says “Rest in peace.”

There are a lot of people on our planet whose height has crossed the two-meter mark. Typically, most of them are involved in sports, such as volleyball and basketball. What can you say about a giant who would not be able to fully straighten up in most modern apartments?

Robert Pershing Wadlow

There was such a man and his name is Robert Pershing Wadlow. He was born on February 22, 1918 in Alton, Michigan. According to the Guinness Book of Records, he is the tallest man in the world who has ever lived on our planet. Alas, Robert lived a short life, which was also marred by a pituitary tumor and acromegaly. When he died, his weight was 199 kilograms with a height of 272 centimeters!

The giant's parents were of average height and did not stand out in anything special. Robert had two sisters and two brothers, but only at the age of four he unexpectedly began to grow, so much so that at the age of eight his height was 188 cm, and after a couple of years he increased by another 10 cm. At the age of 18, he his height was 254 cm, and his foot length was 49 cm. However, by that time Wadlow had become so famous that they sewed shoes for him completely free of charge.

Interestingly, Robert was an ordinary teenager and went to school. After graduation, he entered the university, although in the same year he decided to go to work in a traveling circus, with which he traveled all over America. Despite the gigantic size young man, the public loved him and even called him a “good giant.”

Alas, like many tall people, Wadlow suffered from numerous illnesses. So, over time, he needed crutches due to limited sensitivity in his legs. They destroyed him. On US Independence Day in 1940, Robert rubbed his leg with a crutch, resulting in an infection and then sepsis. No matter how hard the doctors tried, they could not save the life of their popular compatriot. On July 15 he died in his sleep.

IN last way 40 thousand Americans saw him off at once. The coffin weighed almost half a ton, so 12 people carried it at once. At the request of the parents, who were afraid that the remains of the giant would be stolen by vandals, it was decided to concrete the grave.

Sultan Kosen

Currently, the tallest man in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is the Turkish Sultan Kosen, a former basketball player. However, he had to give up sports because he started having problems with his legs.

Sultan was born on December 10, 1982 in Turkey. Currently works as a farmer. According to specialist research, the height of the former athlete is directly related to a pituitary tumor.

Since it is extremely difficult for Kosen to move independently, he uses crutches. Today he lives with his parents, whose height is quite normal for their age. The Sultan himself claims that tall has its advantages. For example, he can easily change a light bulb in a chandelier or easily reach the tops of the trees in his father’s garden when he needs to remove fruits from them. But there are also many disadvantages: for example, the giant constantly experiences problems with his legs, since there is a significant load on them, it is difficult for him to choose clothes and shoes, and the giant almost never fits into cars - he is too big.

Interestingly, until recently the Sultan continued to grow. However, in 2010, he was prescribed a special therapy, thanks to which it became possible to control the giant’s hormone levels and stop growth. For several years now, Kosen has not grown at all, for which he is very grateful to the doctors treating him.

Leonid Stadnik - the tallest man on the planet

Formally, the greatest man on earth should be considered the Ukrainian Leonid Stepanovich Stadnik, born in 1971 in the village of Polyantsy, Chudnovsky district, Zhitomir region of the Ukrainian SSR. His exact height is currently unknown, but according to some sources he is 2.57 meters with a body weight of 200 kilograms. Leonid was already in the Guinness Book of Records in 2007, where he replaced Bao Xishun, the former record holder. However, a year later the title returned to Bao as Leonid refused to be measured by the panel of judges as he was tired of the hype of fame going on around him.

Unfortunately, Stadnik was not very lucky - he was born in the city of Podolyantsy, which is located not far from the infamous Chernobyl. The parents of the future giant were never distinguished by their “dimensions”. For example, Leonid’s mother’s height is only 152 centimeters, and his father is 20 centimeters taller than her. Stadnik was born the most an ordinary child and even when he went to school, no one could even suspect that he would be so big.

At the age of 13, our hero was diagnosed with a benign tumor, which it was decided to remove. According to Leonid, the doctors accidentally touched the pituitary gland, which caused a metabolic disorder, as a result of which the young guy began to grow upward by leaps and bounds. However, this did not stop him from graduating from school with a gold medal and enrolling in a university to become a veterinarian. By the way, he graduated from the university with honors. At that time, Stadnik’s height was just over two meters. Unusual fact from his biography - when he passed the draft board, he immediately received a deferment, and it was far from his height - the guy developed flat feet, and his shoe size was close to 50.

Today the giant continues to live in the same village where he was born. Moreover, he practically does not go to nearby cities, and he has nothing to travel there with. The only thing vehicle, which Stadnik feels worthy of, is a horse and cart, and it simply does not fit in buses and cars.

Some time ago, Leonid worked as a veterinarian, but not everything went well with him - he himself claims that the animals were simply afraid of him. A few years later, he suffered frostbite on his feet because there were no winter shoes of the right size, and he quit his job. Today he is working in the garden.

Recently, Stadnik has received increased attention from the press, not only Ukrainian, but also worldwide. However, he himself is very dissatisfied with this - he is not used to such attention, it makes him very nervous.

Bao Xishun

It is also worth noting Bao Xishun, whose height is 2.36 meters. For several years in a row he was the tallest man on the planet, and then he was overtaken by Sultan Kosen, about whom you can read a little higher.

Xishun was born in 1951 in one of the Chinese provinces. He had many brothers and sisters, but they were never distinguished by their height. However, until the age of 16, Bao also grew up as a completely ordinary child, but then something incredible happened - by the time he reached adulthood, the boy grew up to two meters tall! In this regard, the guy was lucky - he was almost immediately accepted into the basketball team, where, alas, he was not destined to succeed, since he began to experience problems with his joints early on.

Over the next few years, the giant continued to grow, and only at the age of 23 did his height stop at 236 centimeters. The most interesting thing is that for the next two decades absolutely no one cared about Bao. And then one day Xishun began to look for himself new job and got a job as a doorman in one of the restaurants. Local residents noticed him almost immediately, after which rumors about the giant spread throughout the country - dozens of journalists rushed to look at Bao. A little later, our hero became popular all over the world and he was asked to take measurements in the Guinness Book of Records. Bao agreed and overnight became the tallest man on the planet.

The doctors who examined Xishun assure that his problem is not associated with a disease of the pituitary gland, but with a non-clinical disease. Moreover, the problem with the joints did not appear at all because of his height, but because Bao worked as a shepherd throughout his childhood and youth and often slept right on the ground.

In 2007, Bao found his soulmate - she became a saleswoman in one of the stores. By the way, she is only as tall as her husband’s elbow. However, this did not stop her from giving birth to a daughter.

Tallest woman - Anna Swan

One of the tallest people in the world was also the American Anna Swan, whose height, according to unconfirmed data, reached 242 centimeters! Svan was born in 1846 and almost immediately after birth she began to grow upward - already at the age of six her height reached 163 cm, and closer to adulthood it was already 225 cm!

After Anna turned 19, she decided to accept an offer from the once famous circus owner Phineas Barnum - he offered her a job in his show. The circus burned down several times and once the girl barely survived the fire, losing many personal belongings. After that, she decided to quit. Then she hired an agent who organized Anne's tour of Europe, where she could see people with unusual abilities or appearance. While on tour, she was fortunate to meet Captain Martin Bates, who was a year older than her and almost the same height. Less than 12 months later, the couple decided to get married. It is interesting that the young people attracted everyone's attention - even Queen Victoria closely followed their lives, and for her wedding she gave Anna a very beautiful dress, the creation of which took a couple of hundred meters of very expensive material.

Another year later, a child is born to the family. As you might guess, he was very large - his weight reached 9 kg, and his height was 70 cm! True, he died as soon as he was born. After such an unexpected event, the couple decided to return back to the USA. Here they bought a farm in one of the states and built themselves a house with huge ceilings (4.25 m) and doors (3.6 m). In total there were 18 rooms in the house. All furniture was created only to order.

A few years after the move, Anna found out that she was pregnant again and began preparing for childbirth. In the summer, her water began to break and it was decided to call an obstetrician. When he arrived at the house, he was simply in shock - the volume of amniotic fluid reached 20 liters, and the baby’s head was simply stuck in the mother’s womb (it was so big)! Unfortunately, the child did not want to come out on his own, so Martin called another obstetrician, who, however, was able to arrive at the house only a day later. He also failed to remove the baby on his own, so he decided to use forceps - and this helped him. The child, as you can guess, died from such suffering. His height was 85 cm and his weight was 12 kg - one of the largest babies the world has ever seen! They say that his cast is in one of the American museums...

As for our heroine, she died in 1888. There was confusion when ordering the coffin. Immediately after his death, Captain Bates called and ordered a coffin for his wife, but the undertaker either made a mistake or simply thought he was being played, so he sent the most ordinary coffin of standard sizes. Because of this, the burial ceremony had to be postponed for several days. Martin himself decided that he would order a coffin for himself during his lifetime, so that a similar situation would not happen again. He subsequently kept it in his own barn until his death.
