Designing an album cover

Step-by-step tutorial on a wedding album using scrapbooking technique

First we determine the size of the album. Photos measuring 10*15 cm will look good on sheets measuring 25*30 cm. The number of sheets in our album will be six sheets. Take watercolor paper, measure and cut out 14 sheets measuring 25*30 cm. We glue 12 sheets in pairs with double-sided tape, leaving two more sheets for the endpapers.

We take a ready-made acrylic sheet of paper, apply a stencil and make a pattern with acrylic gold paint. Using a dry, hard brush, lightly tint the edges of the pages.

Now we need to make backgrounds for the photographs. Since we have 6 sheets, respectively 12 pages, we also need to make 12 photo substrates. We randomly lay out three or four substrates, and on top, using the same stencil, apply golden paint. Each sheet has its own specific pattern. If suddenly there is paint left on the stencil, then you can make an arbitrary print directly on the sheet. Then we tint the edges of the sheets. We take a figured corner hole punch and decorate the corners of the sheets. On the substrate we determine the location of the slot for fixing the photograph. They can be made with a special hole punch or a breadboard knife; we glue the backing onto contrasting paper, while avoiding the area where the slits are.

Let's start designing and decorating the album pages. We try to decorate in the same style, but at the same time add a little variety. We use decorations such as lace, ribbons, tulle mesh, flowers, and beads. In a word, what is your imagination rich in? The result is visible in the photo below.

The next stage of our MK is the creation of the cover. To do this, we need two thick sheets of cardboard, the size of which is slightly larger than the pages themselves. The fabric for the cover is velvet in beige tones. We cut out pieces of fabric with a margin of 2-3 centimeters than cardboard.

We glue or sew beautiful lace onto the fabric, and we also glue and sew the multilayer inscription with congratulations onto the fabric. This is how we decorated the front of our wedding album. We decorate the back cover to suit our taste. We cover the cardboard blank with padding polyester, fold the edges with the wrong side and cut off the corners, while removing excess thickness. We glue the fabric blank of the cover onto the padding polyester. Add decor: ribbon, voluminous fabric flower, half beads made of pearls. We cover the inside of the front and back of the cover with the sheets that we prepared for the endpapers. The result is visible in the photograph.

Using double-sided tape along the edges, glue all the sheets together. Using a stationery hole punch, we make two or three holes along the width of the album and insert eyelets. We assemble our album and fasten it with rings, as in the photo.

To prevent the wedding scrapbooking album from opening on its own, we make a special bandage that secures the cover well. Finished photo we see the products below.

We take square blanks from bookbinding cardboard and glue strips of double-sided tape on them.

Now we cut and glue the padding polyester.

We will combine the fabric, so we cut slightly smaller sections for small polka dots, two sections, and with a floral print we cut a little more than two sections. Don’t forget to make allowance for sewing fabrics and tucking them around.

We also immediately cut two pieces of satin ribbon and two pieces of lace. Now we need to thoroughly iron all the pieces of fabric and the ribbon. We sew the pieces of fabric together in twos, and at the joints we sew first one lace and then the other.

Now we need to cover our binding with fabric. First we spread the corners, wrap and glue, and then completely cover the edges. In the center we glue strips of tape from the inside with double-sided tape.

We have prepared the cover, all that remains is to stitch it around the edges. From scrap paper we cut out two squares for the endpapers 20.5 by 20.5 cm and a rectangle 11*13 cm.

We try on the decorations on the cover and sew them on.

Now we glue the endpapers from scrap paper inside the covers.
