Types of female figures and how to determine yours

To choose the right wardrobe and always look stylish, you need to know what clothes suit you. One of the most important factors when choosing a wardrobe is your body type.

There are five main types of shapes: triangle (pear), circle (apple), hourglass, rectangle (column) and inverted triangle.

Let's look at each type separately, determine their advantages and disadvantages, and provide recommendations for choosing clothes and choosing physical activity.

1. Triangle (“pear”)

This type is characterized by small or medium shoulders and chest and voluminous hips.

Pros:

  • graceful shoulders
  • feminine curves
  • slim waist

Minuses:

  • diet and exercise will not help make your hips smaller

Wardrobe

The main goal when choosing clothes is to balance wide hips, visually enlarging the upper body.

Fits:

  • Fitted Tops and Blouses
  • Clothes with bare shoulders or wide necklines
  • Sleeveless T-shirts
  • A-line skirts and dresses
  • A-line coat
  • Light top and dark bottom
  • Straight or flared trousers and jeans

Not suitable:

  • Tapered trousers and jeans
  • High-waisted trousers and jeans
  • Bright bottom
  • Tops and dresses that hug the hips
  • Outerwear with length at the hip line

Workout

Trying to persistently lose weight in the lower part of the body by doing exercises with weights, there is a risk of getting the opposite result - the butt may become more voluminous. Instead, it's better to pump up your narrow shoulders to balance out your hips.

What to do:

  • Cardio exercises 3 times a week
  • Swimming
  • Arm, chest and shoulder workouts with weights

What not to do:

  • Use weights to train your lower body

2. Circle (“apple”)

This type is characterized by slender arms and legs and a rounded belly. Hips and shoulders are approximately equal in width.

Pros:

  • slender legs
  • a strong back, which means it’s easier to maintain good posture

Minuses:

  • tendency to corpulence

Wardrobe

The main task when choosing a wardrobe is to visually lengthen the figure, emphasize slender legs and define the waist.

Fits:

  • Loose Long Tops
  • T-shirts and tank tops for graduation
  • V-necks
  • A-line dresses and skirts
  • Trousers and jeans that flare out at the bottom
  • Blouses with accentuating sleeves
  • A-line coat
  • Large details on clothing below the hip line

Not suitable:

  • Clothes with horizontal stripes
  • Tight-fitting tops, skirts and dresses
  • Bright and large elements in the abdominal area
  • Skinny jeans and trousers
  • Short tank tops and t-shirts

Workout

The most problematic part of the body that is difficult to train is the abdominal muscles. But a strong back makes upper body workouts easy. In addition, arms and legs remain slim for a very long time, so they do not require intensive training.

What to do:

  • Ab exercises
  • Circuit training
  • Running and fast walking
  • Hoop torsion
  • Breaststroke swimming

What not to do:

  • Swimming front crawl can greatly increase the size of your shoulders, creating an unbalanced apple shape.

3. Hourglass (“Eight”)

Features of this type: clearly defined waist, chest and hips are approximately equal in width.

Pros:

  • proportionality of the figure even when gaining weight
  • considered the sexiest type

Minuses:

  • If you have this type of figure, then you are lucky - it has no obvious flaws

Wardrobe.

The main goal when choosing clothes for the hourglass is to emphasize the proportionality and femininity of the figure.

Fits:

  • Low-waist trousers and jeans
  • Fitted tops, blouses, dresses, jackets, etc.
  • Intricate details on straps and waistbands
  • Pencil skirt
  • Sheath dress
  • Round and V-necks

Not suitable:

  • Loose clothing that hides the waist
  • Straight cut outerwear

Workout

Thanks to the proportionality of the figure, exercises aimed at toning muscles are easy. However, cardio training can be difficult.

What to do:

  • Exercises for the cardiovascular system – 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes
  • Yoga – tones the entire body, maintaining the proportions of the figure
  • Step aerobics or stair climbing

What not to do:

  • strengthening exercises with weights, because they will add unnecessary volume to the body

4. Rectangle (“column”)

Women with a rectangle figure are usually tall and slender. They have long arms and legs. The silhouette is almost without curves.

Pros:

  • Clothes fit best on this figure
  • Difficulty gaining excess weight

Minuses:

  • Very small breasts

Wardrobe

The main task when choosing a wardrobe for a rectangle figure is to highlight beautiful arms and legs and hide angularity.

Fits:

  • Low Rise Skinny Jeans
  • Straight-leg trousers
  • Deep V-necklines
  • A-line skirts and dresses
  • Tops with spaghetti straps

Not suitable:

  • Tight-fitting clothing
  • Short tops
  • Baggy clothes
  • Pencil skirt
  • Leggings
  • Crew Tops and Tank Tops

Workout.

Cardio exercises are the easiest to do. It is difficult to perform exercises with weights, because... the muscles are rather weak.

What to do:

  • Riding a bicycle will perfectly pump up your buttocks and hips, which will emphasize your waist.
  • Lunges with lifting dumbbells weighing 2 kg from the shoulders - this will help pump up your shoulders and butt at the same time
  • Pilates
  • Hoop torsion

What not to do:

  • Excess aerobics, because there is no excess fat to burn.

5. Inverted triangle (“T-shaped” figure)

This body type is characterized by wide shoulders and narrow hips. The breasts are large, but the buttocks are not voluminous.

Pros:

  • long slender legs
  • strong back

Minuses:

  • the waist is poorly defined

Wardrobe.

The main goal when choosing a wardrobe for this type of figure is to balance the top and them, visually narrowing the shoulders and increasing the hips.

Fits:

  • Dark top, light bottom
  • V-necks
  • A-line skirts and dresses
  • Wide belts at the waist
  • Loose trousers and boyfriend jeans

Not suitable:

  • Light bottom and dark top
  • Boat neckline
  • Loose sweaters and jumpers
  • Voluminous sleeves
  • Pencil skirt
  • Ankle-length skirts and dresses

Workout.

Thanks to the strong back, exercises for the upper body are easy. It is necessary to focus on exercises for the lower part to balance the upper part.

What to do:

  • Lunges with dumbbells no more than 3 kg

What not to do:

  • Upper Body Weight Exercises

How to determine your body type

To determine what type of figure you have, you need to take three measurements:

  • Breast volume - over a bra without push-up at the most protruding points
  • Waist size - at the narrowest part just above the navel
  • Hip circumference – at the widest part

Let's evaluate the result:

  • The volume of the hips is more than 10% greater than the volume of the chest - Triangle (“Pear”) figure
  • The waist volume is almost equal to the hip volume - Circle (“Apple”) figure
  • The chest volume and hip volume are almost equal, and the waist volume is less than the hip volume by more than 25% - Figure Eight (“Hourglass”)
  • The difference between the chest volume and hip volume is no more than 10% and the waist volume is no more than 25% less than the hip volume - Rectangle (“Column”) figure
  • The volume of the chest is more than 10% greater than the volume of the hips - an inverted triangle (“T-shaped” figure)
