Purpose of the Rules for processing letters

Message processing rules are designed to fine-tune the parameters that will be used when processing and delivering different messages, depending on the set of conditions that they will meet. Each condition checks some characteristics of the message, such as the sender and recipient addresses, the names of viruses and other threats found in the letter, the size of the letter, etc. It is possible to set various combinations of checks for these parameters, and thereby change the procedure for processing messages.

Can be specified as general Rules, checked for all processed letters, and Rules associated with specific users, their aliases and user groups.

General Rules for processing letters are set in the main configuration file Dr.Web MailD, in sections , a Rules for processing letters associated with users and user groups are set inbuilt-in database .

Placing Rules in the built-in database is most justified if the number of users with different email processing settings is large, since processing Rules in the configuration file becomes ineffective, since the complexity of searching for settings in it is proportional to the number of Rules. In this case, searching for triggered Rules in the built-in database works more efficiently, and, in addition, memory usage is optimized.

The procedure for processing letters and viewing the Rules

When a message is processed by some plug-in or other component, it may prompt you MailD core the value of some parameter. In this case suitable value parameter is selected according to the following algorithm:

Views Rules available in the built-in database and associated with the recipient of this letter(the recipient is determined by the sender specified RCPT TO).

Views the Rules that exist in the built-in database and are associated with all groups to which the recipient user belongs. Group Rules are viewed in reverse order: from the settings of the most recent group to the first group in the list.

The rules specified in sections.

Please note the procedure for bypassing the Rules:

o All Rules in the currently viewed Rule Group are always checked in the order in which they were specified.

o For each checked Rule, the condition is checked CONDITION – and if it is true, then the value of the required parameter is searched among the elements of the section SETTINGS of this rule.

o If the CONDITION condition turned out to be false, then the review of the Rule ends and the transition to searching for the value in the next Rule occurs.

o If the CONDITION condition true and followed by a directive cont , then the transition to checking the next Rule occurs. If after the true CONDITION there is a directive stop , then the Rules viewing ends regardless of whether the value of the required parameter was found or not.

The value of the parameter based on the results of viewing the Rules is always determined as follows:

If the required parameter is found in one of the triggered rules, then its value extracted from the part SETTINGS (note that when multiple Rules are triggered for the same parameter, the resulting value of this parameter depends on its semantics. For more information on this, see the subsectionsRules Format And Special cases of the Rules ).

If there are no Rules, or no Rule has worked, or in none of thetriggered Rulesthe parameter was not found, then it is extractedthe value of this parameter specifiedin the corresponding section of the configuration file.

If the required parameter is not specified in the configuration file, its default value is used.

The recording format of the Rules for processing letters is discussed in the subsectionRules Format .

Special cases of the Rules (including Rules with a missing part SETTINGS, as well as Rules using cloning parameters) are discussed in subsectionSpecial cases of the Rules .

Error handling and checking the correctness of the Rules are discussed in the subsectionHandling errors and checking the correctness of Rules .
