Features of the job responsibilities of the class teacher

The high responsibility of the work is also associated with certain difficulties that the teacher faces when performing duties of the class teacher at school according to the Federal State Educational Standard.

One of the key difficulties is that the job description indicates the forms, methods and types of work of the teacher, but does not mention the time required for such work. Therefore, class teachers often suffer from lack of time, while according to the employment contract, class management is an additional duty that is performed during working hours. However, time costs often turn out to be inversely proportional to the salary increase for classroom management. To perform the functions of a class teacher with greater efficiency, we recommend taking a distance training course:

As practice shows, full-fledged classroom management cannot be combined with the main activity. What are the responsibilities of a class teacher? and why does it require 35–40 hours per week? This:

  • checking diaries and discipline - at least an hour every day;
  • maintaining school records, organizing creative and work activities - at least an hour a day;
  • participation in contests, competitions, cleaning, etc.

A common practice is to appoint a subject teacher to the position of class teacher. However, in some educational institutions, the class teacher is completely or partially relieved of the teaching load. In this case, the teacher is called a class teacher, tutor, curator.

The second visible problem that emerges during analysis functional responsibilities of the class teacher, is the vagueness of the wording of the instructions, as well as the introduction in some institutions of duties that reduce the motivation of teachers. For example, collecting money, disclosing personal information, etc.

Some difficulties may arise in relationships with the school administration and colleagues when:

  • the class teacher, in accordance with job responsibilities according to the Federal State Educational Standard and the internal rules of the school, replaces absent colleagues;
  • develops and coordinates a curriculum for a year or quarter;
  • reports to the administration on the work done.

As you can see, The class teacher performs such functions as motivation, organization, control of the educational and educational process within the class entrusted to him, creation of harmonious relationships with children, teachers and families, organization of extracurricular activities for children. However, to successfully perform such functions, the employee’s activities must be properly organized and fairly paid.

Rights and responsibilities of the class teacher

A teacher is a high degree of responsibility. It is the responsibility of the class teacher to be a role model for behavior. Violation of these rules is fraught with negative consequences for the teacher himself.

Because it is impossible to demand compliance with the rules from children if they are violated by the one who is responsible for their upbringing.

The rights and responsibilities of the class teacher have both external, normatively prescribed regulations, and internal, moral precepts, the violation of which can lead to serious consequences affecting the behavior of students.

The class teacher has the right:

  • Receive information about the psychophysiological characteristics of the student.
  • Monitor study results.
  • Take initiative in improving forms of work at the school level.
  • Receive methodological and advisory support from the administration and highly specialized specialists.
  • Invite legal representatives of students to the school to resolve issues regarding their upbringing and education.
  • Protect honor and dignity in case of disagreement with the assessment on the part of the administration, parents, students, and other participants in the educational process.

Responsibilities of the class teacher:

  • For failure to comply or improper compliance with the rules and regulations defined by internal regulations.
  • For violation of Russian legislation and the Law “On Education”

The teacher, acting as the leader of the children's group, implements his functions in relation to both the class as a whole and individual students. He solves problems in accordance with the specifics of the children’s age and the relationships that have developed between them, building relationships with each child taking into account his individual characteristics. The main thing in the activities of the class teacher is to promote the self-development of the individual, the realization of his creative potential, ensuring the active social protection of the child, creating the necessary and sufficient conditions for intensifying the efforts of children to solve their own problems.

First level – pedagogical and social-humanitarian functions, which belong to the group targeted.

These functions are aimed at creating conditions for the social development of students and are aimed at helping the child both in solving his current personal problems and in preparing for independent life. Among them, it is necessary to highlight three that determine the main content of the class teacher’s activities: education of students; social protection of the child from adverse environmental influences; integration of the efforts of all teachers to achieve the set educational goals. Among them, the priority is the function of social protection of the child.

Under social protection is understood as a purposeful, consciously regulated system at all levels of society of practical social, political, legal, psychological-pedagogical, economic and medical-ecological measures that provide normal conditions and resources for the physical, mental, spiritual and moral development of children, preventing infringement of their rights and human dignity.

The implementation of this function involves providing conditions for the adequate development of the child in the existing socio-economic conditions. The activities of the class teacher for the social protection of the child are the activities of not only the direct executor, but also the coordinator who helps children and their parents receive social support and social services.

Social protection as a function of the class teacher is, first of all, a set of psychological and pedagogical measures that ensure the optimal social development of the child and the formation of his individuality, adaptation to existing socio-economic conditions. In implementing this function, he must, while solving acute immediate problems, be prepared to anticipate events and, based on an accurate forecast, remove from the child those problems and difficulties that may arise in front of him.

It is advisable to consider social protection in the activities of the class teacher in the broad and narrow sense of the word. In the latter, these are activities aimed at protecting children who find themselves in particularly difficult situations. These are children from large families, disabled children, orphans, refugees, etc., who are in greater need of emergency social protection than others. In the broad sense of the word, all children are the object of social protection and social guarantees, regardless of their origin, the well-being of their parents and their living conditions. Of course, the principle of a differentiated approach to different categories of children remains undeniable, and priority should be given to the most vulnerable categories of children from low-income families or families at risk.

To achieve the goals of education and social protection of students, the class teacher must solve a number of particular problems related to the formation of relationships between students and their peers in the class (organization of the team, its unity, activation, development of self-government). These tasks determine the second level of its functions - socio-psychological, which include, first of all, organizational.

The main purpose of the organizational function is to support positive children's initiatives related to improving the life of the region, the microenvironment, the school and the schoolchildren themselves. In other words, the class teacher does not so much organize students as help them in self-organization of various activities: cognitive, labor, aesthetic, as well as free communication, which is part of leisure time.

The important function at this level seems to be team building, acting not as an end in itself, but as a way to achieve the goals set for the class. One of the tasks of the class teacher is the development of student self-government.

The third level of the class teacher’s functions expresses the requirements arising from the logic of the activity of the subject of managing the educational process. This management functions which include: diagnostic, goal setting, planning, control and correction.

Implementation diagnostic function involves the class teacher identifying the initial level and constantly monitoring changes in the students’ upbringing. It is aimed at researching and analyzing the personality and individuality of the child, at finding the reasons for the ineffectiveness of the results and at characterizing the holistic pedagogical process.

By implementing the diagnostic function, the class teacher can pursue a dual goal: firstly, to determine the effectiveness of his activities, and secondly, diagnostics from a tool for studying personality can turn into a tool for developing the child’s individuality.

Function goal setting can be considered as a joint development of educational goals with students. The share of participation of the class teacher in this process depends on the age of the students and the level of formation of the class team.

The goals of the educational process determine the tasks of managing the process of development of the child’s personality. They can be divided into general and private. General ones are specified in accordance with the main spheres of social relations in which the child is included, and specific ones are associated with the organization of students’ activities.

The logic of goal setting is reflected in the process planning activities of the class teacher. Planning is the help of the class teacher to himself and the class team in the rational organization of activities. The purpose of the plan is to streamline teaching activities, ensure the fulfillment of such requirements for the pedagogical process as planning and systematicity, controllability and continuity of results.

In planning, close cooperation between the class teacher and the class staff is important. The degree to which children participate depends on their age. You should plan what leads to the goal. Since goals are defined as strategic and tactical, plans can be strategic, or long-term, tactical, or operational.

Main purpose of the function control and correction in the activities of the class teacher is to ensure the constant development of the educational system.

The implementation of the control function involves identifying, on the one hand, positive results, and on the other, the causes of shortcomings and problems arising in the process of education. Based on the analysis of the control results, the class teacher’s work is corrected both with the class as a whole and with a specific group of students or an individual student. Monitoring the work of the class teacher is not so much control on the part of the school administration as self-control for the purpose of correction. Correction is always a joint activity of the class teacher and the class team as a whole, a group or individual students.

The considered levels of functions determine the content of the class teacher’s activities.

Rights of the class teacher. The class teacher is an administrative person. He has the right:

Organization in the classroom of an educational process that is optimal for the development of the positive potential of students’ personalities within the framework of the activities of the school team;

Providing assistance to the student in solving acute problems (preferably in person, a psychologist can be involved);

Establishing contacts with parents and providing them with assistance in raising children (personally, through a psychologist, social teacher).

For pedagogically competent, successful and effective performance of their duties, the class teacher must have a good knowledge of the psychological and pedagogical foundations of working with children, be informed about the latest trends, methods and forms of educational activities, and master modern educational technologies.

Planning the work of the class teacher

The class teacher's work plan is a specific reflection of the upcoming course of educational work in its general strategic directions and the smallest details. Hence the expediency of an organic combination of a long-term plan of educational work and plans for specific educational activities.

Experience shows that it is better when the class teacher has a long-term work plan for the entire academic year, and then consistently develops detailed plans for academic quarters. However, this is determined by the experience of the teacher, as well as the established traditions of the school and possible instructions from the educational authorities.

L.Yu. Gordin believes that the older the schoolchildren, the more realistic it is to draw up a plan for a longer period, i.e. for the entire academic year, and in those classes where the class teacher has known the children for several years and has an idea of their level of education, capabilities and interests. And vice versa, the younger the students, the less time the class teacher has worked with this group, the more advisable it is to plan educational work for a quarter or half a year.

The class teacher should begin working on the plan at the end of the previous school year, when the distribution of the teaching load and class management for the new school year becomes known. If the class teacher accepts a new class, he needs to get acquainted with the personal affairs of the students, their families, study the existing system of educational work in the class, traditions, official and unofficial structure of the team. All this will help ensure continuity in educational work.

At the end of the school year, it is advisable to conduct diagnostic “slices” in the classroom with the help of a school psychologist in order to identify the psychological atmosphere, cohesion, value-orientation unity and other essential parameters of collective life. It is useful to identify the prevailing attitudes of pupils among themselves, as well as towards study, work, nature, art and other phenomena and processes of the surrounding reality.

Thus, the preparatory stage for drawing up a plan for the educational work of the class teacher comes down to collecting information about the class team and individual students, which will determine the nature of the dominant educational tasks.

Development of a plan for the educational work of the class teacher. Preparation for drawing up a work plan for the class teacher ends with drawing up characteristics of the class team and individual students. This is the initial stage of deploying the technological chain for developing a life program for the class and students for the coming period.

The next stage involves introducing the class teacher to the school-wide plan of educational work, which, as a rule, is ready for the start of the new school year. From it it is necessary to select all those school-wide events, as well as socially useful activities in parallels and groups of classes in which the class should take part. Being correlated with specific dates, these events will lay the basic framework for the team’s life plan. Here it is necessary to emphasize the inadmissibility of identifying the work plans of the class teacher and the life activities of the class team.

After these two stages, experienced teachers begin to formulate specific tasks of educational work with the class for the school year, think through a system of events and select realistically feasible socially useful activities. And for beginning class teachers, it is advisable to first correlate the information obtained at the previous stages with general data about the characteristics of the age of students in the class and existing recommendations to help class teachers.

When determining the dominant educational tasks, we must proceed from the holistic approach we have adopted to the organization of the pedagogical process. Not isolated events in areas of educational work, but real deeds and various types of activities should form the basis of plans. The tasks of education, and, consequently, the specific content for a strictly defined period of time, should be determined by the social, age and individual developmental situations. The social situation, as it were, dictates the ideas of collective affairs (what to do as a team), the age situation determines the choice of forms of activity, and the situation of individual development makes the content side of work with children unique. Accordingly, three main objects of attention of the class teacher are highlighted: team, activity and individuality.

In order to ensure the harmonious development of the personality of each schoolchild, when selecting content, the class teacher must include in the plan, and then in the actual pedagogical process, cognitive, labor, artistic-aesthetic, physical education, value-orientation and other types of activities. At the same time, it is important that within these types of activities a sufficient diversity of their specific types is achieved.

When the plan as a whole is formed, the period of “fine-tuning” begins. The class teacher discusses its individual sections with colleagues, teachers working with the class, parents and students, and also makes adjustments to the work plans of the class and children's public organizations. The class teacher’s plan is richer than the team’s life plan, since it contains educational activities relating to both the team as a whole and individual students, their study, and areas of work with parents. It, figuratively speaking, constitutes a kind of background on which the work plan of the class, its activists, student government bodies and individual students is superimposed. Taken together, complementing each other, these plans provide for the necessary content of those educational and socially useful activities, the organization and implementation of which are aimed at developing valuable business and moral qualities in schoolchildren.

The final stage in the technological chain of creating an educational work plan is its discussion at a class meeting, assigning those responsible for organizing certain events, distributing assignments to the activists and individual students.

Plan structure. In actual school practice, the work plans of class teachers have different structures. This is due to the different operating conditions of schools and individual classrooms as pedagogical systems. The structure, and, consequently, the very forms of work plans also depend on the level of pedagogical qualifications of the class teacher. If an experienced teacher can limit himself to a brief work plan, then it is advisable for novice teachers to draw up detailed, detailed plans.

The traditional structure of a class teacher’s work plan has five sections: a brief description and analysis of the state of educational work; educational tasks; main directions and forms of activity of the class teacher; coordination of educational activities of teachers working in the classroom; working with parents and the public.

All plans of the class teacher should begin with a brief analysis of the state of educational work for the previous year and a description of the class. The characteristic reflects the level of general education of the team, its academic performance and discipline, as well as the formation of such qualities as hard work, responsibility, organization, social activity, etc. The structure of interpersonal relationships (leaders, outsiders, microgroups), the prevailing mood in the class, the content of value orientations are analyzed that determine public opinion. Characteristics of individual students are given, in particular those who deviate from accepted norms of behavior, who are lagging behind in their studies, etc.

The second section formulates the main, dominant educational tasks that will be solved in the new academic year. They should be few in number to ensure their effective, rather than formal, implementation. It is important that the tasks take into account the state of the class team, the level of its development, as well as the general tasks facing the school. Since there are no identical teams, the tasks cannot be the same even in parallel classes. In many ways, they depend on the experience and qualifications of the class teacher.

The third section carries the main content load, defining both the main types of activities (social, cognitive, labor, artistic, sports, value-oriented, communicative) and ways to solve educational problems. It is this section that determines the structural originality of the plan, since it reflects certain approaches to the development and formation of personality.

The fourth section of the traditional plan outlines specific measures to coordinate the educational influences of all teachers working in the classroom. These may be pedagogical meetings, special consultations, individual conversations with individual teachers and other forms of work.

The final section – “Working with parents” – contains a range of issues expected to be discussed at parent meetings, although the topics of lectures and conversations can be adjusted depending on the prevailing circumstances; the dates for visiting families in order to study the living conditions and upbringing of children are planned; forms of individual work with parents, communication with the parent committee and opportunities to attract parents to participate in the life of the class and school are planned.

Currently, it is generally accepted that planning by sections in accordance with the main directions of education (labor, moral, aesthetic, etc.) “tears” the integral pedagogical process into parts and does not cover the entire variety of pedagogical tasks. In recent years, the version of the plan proposed by N.E. Shchurkova has received recognition from the pedagogical community, in which complex, activity-based and personal approaches in its individual creative interpretation are reflected in organic unity. Highlighting the collective, the activities of students and the development of individuality as the main objects of education, N.E. Shchurkova proposes, after identifying the dominant tasks, to distinguish three relevant sections: organization of the collective, organization of educational activities and organization of work on the development of individuality.

Two auxiliary sections should contain a description of the class team and a description of the individual characteristics of the students, which reflect the living conditions of the students in the family (especially if there are difficulties); their interests and inclinations, and in connection with this - what circles, sections, institutions of additional education they attend, and if they do not attend, then why; state of health and the most pronounced personal characteristics.

In the practice of education, various forms of planning the work of class teachers have developed, and, taking into account the specific conditions of different regions of the country, cities and villages, new-building schools and schools with long-standing traditions, there is no need for a strict unification of the form of this plan. The class teacher himself chooses the form of the plan, focusing on the requirements that are presented to him and on his pedagogical “ I-concept".

Planning and preparation of educational events. Based on the long-term plan of educational work, the class teacher draws up a work plan for the week, which specifies educational activities. It is advisable to combine this plan with the class teacher’s diary.

The object of special attention is the preparation of educational activities. In many cases, the preparation process is much more significant in terms of educational impact than the event itself. The educational effect remains even if the event did not take place for some reason (for example, the invited guest could not come, etc.). L.Yu. Gordin notes that the general rule for planning educational work with a class is to plan only those affairs and events that can be carefully, without haste and storming, prepared and carried out efficiently, which will certainly be completed and will bring moral satisfaction to the class staff , experiencing the joy of success.

Each planned business must be realistically planned in time, enough days, and sometimes weeks, must be allocated for its thorough preparation. Considering that a sustainable educational effect can be obtained only when the organizers and executors of the activity are the students themselves, it is advisable to use the experience of organizing collective creative activities according to the methodology of I.P. Ivanov.

Preliminary work of educators. The role of this collective creative activity (CTA) in the life of the team is determined, specific educational tasks are put forward; options for the case are outlined that will be offered to the students as possible; the prospect of a possible business is being built. At this stage there is a search and reconnaissance of cases. If the team is at the first stage of development, then the teachers themselves lead the children to socially significant work; if on the second, then the asset is involved in the search; if on the third, all members of the team conduct a search along the intended routes (for example, “class”, “neighborhood”, “nature”, “press”, “kids”, etc.).

Collective planning of KTD. It takes place at a general meeting of the team. A general plan for the life of the team for the next period is drawn up. First, the work takes place in microgroups, and then questions and tasks are solved together, for example: for whom is the CTD organized? Whose joy and benefit? Who will participate? Together with whom? What should the council of the case be like, and who will be included in it? Where is the best place to conduct CTD? What's the best way to spend it? At the end of the gathering, the most interesting, useful proposals from the microgroups are brought together, and elections for the council of the case take place.

Collective preparation of the case. The Action Council clarifies the plan for preparing and conducting the CTD, and organizes microgroups to prepare good deeds “in secret.” At this stage, meetings can be held with people who can assist in carrying out the case, materials are prepared, literature and periodicals are studied, a press center is created, etc. Experience shows that, in general, the proven methodology for organizing collective creative activities should not be abused. We cannot abandon traditional conversations, debates, conferences and other positively proven forms of organizing the pedagogical process. In this case, the class teacher prepares a plan or outline, in which he notes: the topic and form of organizing the work; the purpose and objectives of its implementation, time (date, hour); location of the event; who is entrusted with its preparation and implementation (distribution of assignments); equipment and design; form for recording the results of the work performed. A carefully thought-out plan for a specific event is a necessary condition for its high-quality implementation, a condition for achieving both substantive and educational results.

This article has existed for almost two years now and many readers have complained that my words are not substantiated by anything, only from experience. They demanded that I provide regulations, but I couldn’t find anything. Searching for an answer to a question from one of the users accidentally led me to a ministry order with methodological recommendations on the work of a class teacher, and I decided to update the article and comment on it in accordance with the normative act.

While still working at school, I was amazed and outraged by how much a teacher has to do if he is also a class teacher. I have already written a little about the large number of “professional facets” of a teacher. This article will describe the functions of the class teacher from the point of view of the Ministry of Education.

Schools and teachers can focus their work on order Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated February 3, 2006 No. 21 “On approval of methodological recommendations on the implementation of the functions of a class teacher by teaching staff of state educational institutions of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and municipal educational institutions,” which regulate the activities of the class teacher.

Homeroom teacher is a teacher in any subject who manages the entire life (in school and outside of school) of one class assigned to him and communicates with parents.

According to the law (Part 1 of Article 60.2 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation), any additional work must be performed with the written consent of the employee and for an additional fee. In fact, the classroom management is prescribed in the employment contract and the teacher automatically agrees to perform this work upon signing. It’s rare that anyone can refuse this, although they have every right, and the payment is far from proportional to the time and effort spent.

Functions of a class teacher and what is needed to implement them:

  • Know First name, last name, home address, telephone number (preferably) of each child in your class, as well as the full name of parents (legal representatives), their telephone number. I also asked for information about the parents’ place of work, but they are most likely redundant.
    In this case, the following functions of the class teacher from among the organizational and coordinating ones are implemented:
  • — ensuring communication between the educational institution and the family;

  • — establishing contacts with parents (other legal representatives) of students...;

  • This data is also necessary for the following function:
  • — maintaining documentation (class journal, personal files of students).

  • Know character traits of the child (if possible) . Not all character traits and inclinations are visible to the teacher immediately or even over time. Parents see the student in their own way, in a different environment. We all want the child to be perceived as an individual with all the characteristics of character and behavior, so tell the class teacher about them.
    This may be necessary for:

    — Organization in the classroom of an educational process that is optimal for the development of the positive potential of students’ personalities within the framework of the activities of the school-wide team;

    interaction with each student and the class team as a whole;

    To carry out communication functions:

    regulation of interpersonal relationships between students;

    establishing interaction between teaching staff and students;

    providing assistance to students in the formation of communicative skills

  • Know the reason for the child’s absence from classes . The class teacher is responsible for the life and health of the child during classes. That's why they ask you for certificates, etc. Based on these documents, the administration draws up an official order to release the child from classes. Thus, the parent (legal representative) assumes responsibility for the life and health of the child during classes. This is the control function:

    monitoring student attendance at classes.

  • Must cook and conduct meetings and

    conducting consultations and conversations with parents (other legal representatives) of students;

  • check your diaries at least once a week (give grades, paste important information for parents, inform about the date of the parent-teacher meeting, etc.). Now there are electronic diaries, and most of the information is posted on the school website (the school is obliged to constantly update information on the website to ensure the informational openness of the educational institution, keep this in mind). But many parents would like to receive information from paper the old fashioned way.

    monitoring the progress of each student;

  • Know medical indications and contraindications for each child - recommended
    The teacher does not have the right to demand medical reports and diagnoses. But parents, if they wish, can indicate whether the child has allergies or physical characteristics that need to be taken into account when organizing the educational process (for example, poor eyesight).
  • Know family social status (whether the family is low-income (officially), how many children are in the family, whether the parents are divorced).
    This information is collected for the activities of the social teacher.

    providing assistance to parents in raising students (personally, through a psychologist, social teacher, additional education teacher)

    Going with children to the cinema, theater and other educational or entertainment events -

    organizing educational work with students through “small teacher councils”, pedagogical councils, thematic and other events;

The methodological recommendations also highlight the forms of work that the class teacher can use to carry out his functions: individual (conversations, consultations); group (for example, self-government bodies, which for some reason have now ceased to be relevant, at least in my school); collective (competitions, performances, concerts).

The success of the work is proposed to be assessed by the level of social development of students (general culture, discipline), that is, by results. The process of work itself is also assessed, that is, how the class teacher organized educational work with students, how he interacts with the school staff and parents.

But some things are still not covered in the document, but, in my opinion, are important for work - this is what cannot be done in the work of a class teacher and a little about his schedule.

The class teacher has no right

Finally...

Two years later, I returned to the article with different ideas about school and working as a class teacher in it. Some readers disagreed with my opinion (though without explaining why). Now I understand that a lot depends on people and there are quite a lot of teachers who really love being a class teacher and a large number of functions do not frighten or irritate them. For me, this work was a burden, since I wanted to spend more time preparing for lessons, and not counting the remaining money for food and checking diaries.

Do you have anything to add or object to? Write in the comments. I'm waiting in VK and Odnoklassniki groups.
