Connect mobile internet to your phone. How to set up the Internet on Android: detailed setup instructions and possible connection problems

It’s hard to imagine a modern Android smartphone without access to the Internet. In this material we will talk about how to enable the Internet on an Android smartphone using mobile communications and Wi-Fi.

In order to enable mobile Internet on Android, you need to follow a few simple steps. First, you need to enable the Mobile Data feature. To do this, open the Android settings and go to the “Data Transfer” section.

In this section you need to find the “Mobile Data” function and enable it. Also in this section there is a “Traffic Saving” function. It is better to disable it, otherwise in the background it may block Internet access for some applications.

After that, you need to go back to the main settings screen and go to advanced internet settings. To do this, open the “More” section.

To turn on the Internet, here you need to select the network type: 2G, 3G or. Now, the 3G network works with almost all operators and in all countries. But, if your mobile operator supports 4G LTE, then it is better to choose this type of network. Because 4G LTE provides the fastest internet speed. Also in the “Mobile networks” subsection there is an “Internet roaming” function. If you want to enable the Internet while roaming, then this function must also be activated.

In most cases, the steps described above are enough to enable the Internet on your Android smartphone. But, if your Internet still does not work, then most likely you do not have access points (APN) configured. In order to configure them, you need to open the settings and go to the “More – Mobile networks – Access points (APN)” section.

Here you can select one of the Internet access points and change its settings. You can also add an access point here. There is a button with a plus sign for this. If you do not know what settings to specify, contact the technical support of your Internet provider.

How to connect the Internet on Android via Wi-Fi

If you want to connect to the Internet on Android using a Wi-Fi connection, then everything is much simpler than when using mobile Internet. All you need to do is open Android settings and go to the "Wi-Fi" section.

After this, a window will appear asking for a password. Enter the Wi-Fi password and click on the “Connect” button.

After entering the Android password, the smartphone will connect to the Internet via a Wi-Fi wireless network. In this case, the following message will appear next to the selected Wi-Fi network: “Connected”.

If, after connecting to the Wi-Fi network, the Internet still does not work, then most likely the problem is the lack of Internet access on the router or Wi-Fi access point.

3G Internet and Wi-Fi have their own advantages and disadvantages. We mentioned them in the question “Which is the best Internet to choose for a tablet?” .

Setting up 3G Internet from your operator:

The operator himself usually helps you set up the Internet on Android - when you turn on the phone for the first time, you receive an SMS with automatic Internet settings to your number. Just save them to your phone - and everything will be automatically configured and activated.

If for some reason you cannot automatically configure the Internet, then consider an example of setting up the Internet on an LG Optium Black smartphone:

1. Press the "Menu" - "Settings" button

2. In the menu that opens, click the “More” button in the “Wireless” item and select “Mobile networks”.

3. In the next window, open the “Access points (APN)” settings item.

5. Manually enter your mobile operator's APN, login and password. You can find them out from the official websites of your mobile operators or select from our list:

Save the entered settings and the Internet on your phone will work.

Setting up a Wi-Fi Internet connection.

At home or in various public institutions - cafes, restaurants, on the street - it is cheaper and more profitable to use an Internet connection via Wi-Fi.

You need to connect to the World Wide Web via Wi-Fi like this:

1. Open "Menu" - "Settings" - "Wireless network settings".

2. Turn on Wi-Fi by clicking on the corresponding button.

3. Select from the list of available networks the one you want to connect to. Enter a password to connect if necessary.

Take full advantage of this connection.

Attention! When connecting to public and publicly accessible networks, avoid connecting to sources that require you to enter sensitive information - credit card number, personal phone number, etc.

In recent years, due to the great popularity of mobile devices, there has been a high growth rate of mobile users of the World Wide Web. Moreover, 55% of users in this category in Russia (as of March 2015) are owners of smartphones and tablets on the Android platform. Therefore, the issue of setting up the Internet is very relevant.

As a rule, in most cases, the first time you connect to the network, the operator determines the device model and sends automatic settings. But quite often it happens that this does not happen. And then you need to do everything yourself.

Setup steps

To manually set up the Internet on an Android device, regardless of what operator you have, you need to take the following steps:

  1. Go to the main menu.
  2. Go to "Settings".
  3. Choose "Wireless Networks"(in earlier versions of Android), or the “More” tab (in newer versions).
  4. Next find the sub-item "Mobile networks".
  5. Choose Access Points (APN). P.S: If the phone has two SIM cards, then select the one for which the settings will be made.
  6. When you are in the Access Points section, press the touch button “Menu”, and then - “Create APN/New Access Point”.

Facts and statistics

At the beginning of 2015, the number of Internet users in Russia using smartphones exceeded 21 million people. More than 10 million people access the World Wide Web from tablet computers. If we compare these figures with the same period in 2014, then there is an almost 2-fold growth trend.

  1. In 2012, Russia rose to first place among European countries in terms of the number of Internet users and sixth place in the world ranking.
  2. 55% of the mobile audience are owners of Android devices.
  3. 29% of this audience are owners of Samsung devices.
  4. 87% of users use the mobile Internet to search for some information, and approximately 75% use it to communicate on social networks.

To access the World Wide Web from a mobile device, you need to know how to set up the Internet on phone for specific mobile operators. The setup process may vary depending on the specific services provided. Generally, there are two types of tuning: automatic and manual. Let's take a closer look at the instructions for connecting to the Internet for most popular mobile operators.

Automatic settings

The easiest way to access the Internet on Android through a mobile operator - order an automatic configuration service. It is free and does not depend on the operator or the connected tariff. All the user needs to do is send a request and receive settings in response. Automatic ordering of special settings will determine the model of the device being used and send all settings as an SMS message.

How to connect your phone to Wi-Fi?

If, after receiving the automatic configuration, the smartphone cannot access the Internet, make sure that:

  1. You have activated the required tariff;
  2. There is money in the mobile account;
  3. The settings sent were installed;
  4. The phone has rebooted.

Some Android device models may not support the automatic configuration feature for operators MTS, Life, Beeline and others, so you need to create and connect an access point yourself.

Notice! Most users receive automatic settings after connecting the SIM card for the first time. Check your incoming SMS messages to make sure you have received the parameters ready for installation.

To order add-ons from the operator, you need to go to the company’s official website and fill out the required fields, then send a message to smartphone or you can use short numbers:

  • MTS - http://www.mts.ua/ru/online-services/settings#settings-auto. To order MTS 3g, also use this site, but remember that you first need to connect a suitable tariff plan so that in the future all the money for using high-speed Internet will not be debited from your mobile account;

  • Life - dial and execute the command *123*6# or send a standard message with the text INTERNET to number 123;
  • Beeline dial the command *110*181# and wait for the settings;
  • Megafon - send an SMS with one to the short number 5049;

Manually setting up an MTS operator connection

MTS is a large mobile operator that provides its services in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. If your Android device for some reason cannot load the operator’s automatic settings, you need to configure the network settings manually.

To do this, follow the instructions below:

  • Go to the main menu on Android;
  • Open the settings window and select the “Wireless Network” tab;

  • Connect the mobile internet function. To do this, check the selected area (Figure 2). Please note that if you do not activate this option, further settings will not allow you to connect to the network;

  • Now select the mobile networks window. In the proposed list, find the “MTS Internet” profile. If such a list item does not exist, you must create it yourself. To do this, click on “create an APN access point”;
  • To create an access point manually, you must enter the following parameters. Name (Title) - MTS, Login and password - mts, APN access point address - internet.mts.ru. The remaining parameters must be left as standard, as shown in the figure below;

Some smartphone models in the authentication type area may contain the value “not specified” by default. To ensure a stable connection to the network, you must set the value to “No”.

To manually configure the Internet on Beeline and Megafon, you need to create a similar access point; its address can be found by contacting the operator.

Manually setting up a Life operator connection

Life is one of the largest mobile operators in Ukraine.

To set up and connect your Android smartphone to the Internet manually, follow the instructions:

  • Go to the main menu of your smartphone;

  • Then turn on the settings window and select Connections. Depending on the version of the operating system, this menu item may be called “Mobile communications”, “Mobile network” or “Connections”. Go to this window and select the “Other networks” option, as shown in the figure below;

  • Next, click on Mobile networks;

  • Check the box to enable mobile data and then open the access point window;

  • Press the key to create a new access point;
  • Then scroll down the window and find two items: to configure the type of access point and the type of authentication;

  • In the authentication window, set the value to PAP;

  • In the window for changing the type of access point, enter the default value in text and click on the confirm button;
  • Now the newly created one will be displayed in the access points menu. Select it;
  • Reboot your phone. After turning it back on, check whether data transfer mode is enabled in the network settings. Now you can start using the Internet.

Connecting 3G connection

If you want to use 3G Internet connection technology, you need to configure it on your smartphone. However, first you need to choose a MTS 3g tariff or from other companies, which is focused on high traffic consumption. Otherwise, the fee for using the Internet may be several times higher than the cost of regular 2G.

See detailed description of tariffs of Ukrainian telecom operators

The first thing you need to do to connect 3g MTS or Life 3g is to get automatic settings or create an access point yourself.

  • Click on the network mode selection panel;
  • Check GSM/WCDMA$
  • Close settings and restart your phone. Now a high-speed connection will appear on your smartphone that is connected to 3g MTS or 3g Life.

Some versions of Android have a different menu, to connect 3g MTS, you need to disable the “use only 2G” networks item in the settings, as shown in the figure below:

Internet access

To access the Internet you will need a browser. Before turning it on, make sure that the data transfer mode from the SIM card you need is enabled in the settings. Go to the menu of your device and find the standard browser there. You can also download a third-party browser from the official app store.

After installing the desired browser, turn it on and go to any of the sites. If there is no connection to the Internet, you need to create an access point again or call the operator back. Perhaps your smartphone or tablet model has a special system for setting up mobile Internet.

Thematic video:

There have been no problems with setting up Internet access for a long time, since in 99.99% of cases it is configured automatically. But some subscribers have some difficulties with this. You can set up the Internet on your phone if it doesn’t see the automatic settings manually by specifying the access point and other necessary data. We'll tell you how it's done.

Typically, the setup process is as follows: we install a SIM card in the smartphone, and it is automatically configured for the desired operator. This is exactly what happens on all normal phones, unless they are made in a handicraft way in Chinese basements (does not apply to handsets of more or less well-known brands). And some Russian operators, after inserting a SIM card into the phone, immediately send all the necessary settings in the form of service messages.

It is also possible to order automatic mobile Internet settings forcibly:

  • MTS – go to this page, indicate the number and press the “Send” button;
  • MegaFon - automatic order does not work. Previously, you had to send the number “1” (without quotes) to 5049;
  • Beeline - just call 06503;
  • Tele2 – call service number 679.

On MegaFon, only manual configuration is possible if the phone refuses to configure itself when installing a SIM card.

Manual configuration of smartphones involves entering connection parameters independently. Modern tubes are easy to set up; models from earlier years have more necessary parameters. Their names may differ, but in general they are relatively easy to understand. Setting up push-button phones is completely individual for each manufacturer - it’s easier to order automatic setup, and if that doesn’t help, set the profile manually using the parameters for smartphones.

The most important parameters:

  • Profile name - can be anything, but it is better to name it appropriately, for example, “Beeline Internet” (hereinafter we omit all quotation marks);
  • APN – depends on the operator;
  • Username and password – depend on the operator;
  • APN type – absent in some handsets;
  • The protocol is another mandatory item in some models.

The remaining points are most often not used.

Network settings from operators

Let's move from words to action, we'll deal with setup work for the main Russian cellular operators. We will provide parameters and instructions for Android and iOS smartphones.

Beeline

To connect mobile Internet on an Android smartphone, go to the “Settings – Mobile network – Access points” menu, add a new access point (AP) with the following parameters:

  • Name – Beeline Internet;
  • APN – internet.beeline.ru;
  • Username – beeline;
  • Password – beeline;
  • Authentication type – PAP;
  • APN type – default;
  • APN protocol is IPv4.

We save it, select it as the default AP, enable data transfer and try to access the Internet.

On Apple iPhone smartphones, go to the menu “Settings – General – Network – Cellular data network”, enter the following data:

  • APN – internet.beeline.ru;
  • Username – beeline;
  • Password – beeline.

We return to the main screen and try to connect to the network.

MTS

The MTS operator requires you to set only four parameters on Android smartphones:

  • Name - MTS internet;
  • APN - internet.mts.ru;
  • Username – mts;
  • Password – mts.

In the “Authentication Type” field, select “No” if something else is indicated there.

On iPhones, go to the same “Cellular Data” menu and specify the following parameters:

  • APN – internet.mts.ru;
  • Username – mts;
  • Password – mts.

We set similar parameters in “LTE Settings” and “Modem Mode”.

Megaphone

Mobile Internet users from MegaFon will need the following parameters:

  • Profile name – any name can be used;
  • APN – internet;
  • APN type – default;
  • MCC – 250;
  • MNC-02.

On iPhone smartphones, we indicate only the APN - leave the rest of the fields empty.

Tele2

To set up an access point on Android phones, we use the following parameters:

  • Name – Tele2 Internet;
  • APN – internet.tele2.ru;
  • Authentication type – No;
  • APN type – default, supl.

We save and set the default access point, try to connect to the Internet. On iPhone you only need to set the APN - that’s all.

Couldn't you set up the Internet either manually or with automatic settings? We boldly go to the communication salon of our mobile operator and ask for help from consultants - they will definitely help you (sometimes free of charge, sometimes for a fee).

Connect via Wi-Fi

Anyone can set up Internet access via Wi-Fi, even if they are infinitely far from technology. We turn it on in the top curtain, then press the shortcut and hold it for a couple of seconds - a menu with available networks will appear on the screen. Select the desired access point, click on it, enter the password (you need to check it with the person who set up the router). That's all the settings. In the future, the phone will connect to the selected access point automatically as soon as it appears in its coverage area.
