Agent work. Agent work Building near the highway

Having gone through a difficult path full of dangerous adventures, you have finally found the mysterious “Underground”.
Following the plot of "Molecular Level", your pass to the organization will be the Hunter's chip, thanks to which formal security protocols will be abolished and Agent Deacon will convince Desdemona to let you into the Underground headquarters.

If you are following the “Path of Freedom” from a quest from the citizens of “Diamond City” and have not yet received the Hunter’s chip, then with the support of the Deacon, the Survivor will have to pass a test and thus prove that he has no connections with the Institute and will not hesitate to risk his life for the sake of a friend, even if he turns out to be a synth. In turn, the organization will promise its help in return for your devotion.

First you need to talk to the Deacon. Apologizing for the cold reception Desdemona gave him, he will make it clear that precautions are extremely necessary, because if you underestimate the enemy, the game will quickly end.

So, to begin with, Desdemona wants to make a “tourist” out of us, which is what they call those who just help the Underground from time to time. But Deacon senses great potential in the Survivor, a valuable ally, and hopes to have him on his side.

The Deacon has a task that is difficult for one person to complete, but just right for two. In order for a Survivor to be noticed and invited to your team, you must agree and help.

We set up our pip-boy for the task and go to the location “Old Highway near Lexington”.

Approaching a broken overpass, you will find a suspicious character, but as you approach, you will see a disguised Deacon who, without false modesty, admires his disguise.

Here he will tell you that the “Old North Church” began to be used as the main base not so long ago. Before this, the old base was located in the basement of Joe Slocum's Cafe, until Institute stormtroopers tracked them down and turned the headquarters into a shooting range. Those who managed to survive did not have time to get ready, so they needed to pick up something important that they had to abandon during the retreat.

First you will have to meet and get some information from a tourist working for the Underground. Follow the Deacon, he will tell you about certain symbols with which agents leave messages and secret passwords for each other. Look for traces/signs left by the tourist.

Throughout the journey, the Survivor and his new comrade will be attacked by Wild Ghouls, appearing out of nowhere - real horror!

Having reached the meeting point and given the secret password for the “Underground”, you will meet the grumpy tourist Ricky, for him we are just staff rats. The information about the entrance to the cafe will be depressing, it is full of “iron lumberjacks” (as synths of the first and second generations are called), and the entrance is also mined on all sides.

Having discussed the current situation with the Deacon, it is worth making a reasonable decision not to go into a frontal attack, because “not mountains of candy and daisies” are waiting at the entrance. Thank God the cafe has a secret tunnel. Let's move towards him!

Note
On the way to the tunnel in the trailer behind the bars there is power armor.

Having reached the collector, the Deacon will finally tell you what exactly needs to be found. The main goal is a certain prototype developed by an underground agent, Dr. Carrington.

Note
If you do not have the required terminal hacking skill, the Deacon will be happy to open the door to the collector.

While following the tunnel, carefully look at the signs left by the agents; they not only warn of danger, but also point to hiding places with various “useful things”.

Ahead of you are waiting for first and second generation synths and turrets. One thing is encouraging, such advanced technologies of the Institute, from the series “how to ruin our lives,” that is, hunters, according to the Deacon, should not exist.

Note
On the desk next to the working terminal and globe there is a magazine called the US Covert Operations Manual.

Focus on the goal marker, you need to find an armored door with a terminal, which the Deacon will also help open. Inside the room we find the deceased agent Tommy Whispers, who defended the secrets of the Underground to the last. After searching the corpse, Deacon decides to give Tommy's weapon to you. "Savior" is a powerful and silent weapon, restored by Technician Tom, the only one of its kind.

Take Carrington's prototype and bring it to Desdemona, now you will be a full member of the Underground.

We leave the tunnel using the elevator and get out through the basement of the cafe. Be careful, there are mines at the exit. To avoid falling into the trap and detect them before they are activated, use “VATS”.

Now your task is to meet with the Deacon in the “Old North Church”. Desdemona is delighted that you managed to find and deliver the Carrington prototype. Welcome to the Underground, new agent! Now the Survivor will also have his own code name, because the “Underground” is alive only because it is well encrypted.

Note
Now the Deacon can become your companion.

Lexington Map

Formerly known as Corvegatown due to the large mill to the south, Lexington is located exactly where the Revolutionary War once began. The Minuteman statue still stands in the city's main square, known as Battle Green. Previously, this place was a stronghold of raiders, but they fled due to the invasion of wild ghouls.
Supermarket parking

Outside there is a gun in a small maintenance room and a fleet of rusty cars. Inside, below the level, there is a garage, the floor is covered in oil, and nearby are explosive barrels and a group of wild ghouls. Hack the terminal (simple) to control the Protectron.

  • Quest Visit: Undercover work (Underground)

You cannot access this location until you start the quest Undercover (Underground).

The Switchboard was a secret Underground base until it was captured by Institute synths. In Joe Slocum's basement, try moving the cabinet and calling the elevator. There is not enough power, so you can only enter through an old sewer pipe (on the map this place is located in Zone 1, side location numbered). You can gain access to all rooms (provided your lockpicking skill is high enough, otherwise you will need to start the above quest). Don't forget the nuclear blocks, magazine, and mini-nuclear charge before you go out.

Red Rocket gas station

The dilapidated station was cleared out by other scavengers.
Old Bridge and Ruins

The old store and bridge have been taken over by ghouls. Climb the stairs and walk across some planks to reach a rusty building with access to the rooftops and a view of the town square.
Bank of Lexington

Hack the terminal (easy) to open the safe.
Destroyed Building (Rust)

This multi-story structure is infested with Scavs.
Bridge to the liquor store

Numerous ghouls and an open roof with a chemical laboratory. The bridge leading to the liquor store is raider territory.
Basketball court

City basketball court. The settler in the ring does not seem to understand the rules of the game.
Destroyed building (Swimming pool)

Don't forget to grab the mini-nuke from Pulovski's hideout.
Destroyed building

A section of the highway collapsed and crushed a construction company building. The ghouls wandering around do not notice the irony.
Destroyed Building (Under the Freeway)

Another destroyed building. Chemicals in the bathroom medicine cabinet and a few other things, but with a slight sense of desperation.
Building by the highway

This building can be accessed from the motorway.

Talk to Deacon

Desdemona, the leader of the Underground, doesn't trust you yet. So this task is a kind of test. If everything goes well, then you will be able to further cooperate with the Underground, for example, they can help build a signal interceptor for the “Molecular Level” story quest.

The Deacon is the mysterious man who vouched for you to Desdemona when you first found the Underground in the Road to Freedom quest. He believes that the Underground needs you, and wants you to prove yourself in this task and show everyone what you are worth.

Charisma

You can try to find out from the Deacon why he vouched for you (level of conviction - easy, medium, difficult).

Meet Deacon on the old highway

Deacon suggests meeting in Lexington on the old highway. There he will tell you the essence of the task.

When you get there, know that that strange guy in the hat and dark glasses is the Deacon. As it turns out, he's just obsessed with disguises. Don't judge him harshly, everyone has their own cockroaches in their heads.

But let's get to the task. Before the Old North Church, the Underground base was located under Joe Slocum's Cafe, but they were discovered by the Institute. Your task is to pick up something you need from the base. You will only find out what it is when you get to the former base.

Follow the Deacon and find the "tourist"

For now, follow the Deacon, according to him, they have a tourist - an informant who has information about the base.

You will follow the Underground signs left by the tourist and ascend to the old highway. Along the way, be prepared to repel the attack of wild ghouls and look into the bus from which they got out, there you will find Quantum Yader-Cola. Also on the way, the Deacon will tell you the code phrase: “Currently under repair.” Apply it in a conversation with the informant, no matter what he says.

Ricky Dalton, a Underground tourist, will tell you that Joe Slocum's Cafe is infested with old-age synths. They mined the main entrance, it’s better not to go through it.

Talk to Deacon

Discuss the current situation with the Deacon. He offers you a choice: go head-on from the main entrance or through the tunnel - an alternate route. I think it's better to take the tunnel. If you try to enter through the basement of the cafe, then in addition to the fact that you will be greeted by traps, synths and turrets, it will also be impossible to access the elevator located behind the bookcase, and you will have to go through a tunnel. A waste of time.

Get into the tunnel

Now you lead, not the Deacon. Go down the old highway the same way you came up it. On the way to the marker indicating the location of the tunnel, you will definitely come across abandoned train cars. Inside one of them there will be a terminal (medium level), which opens a lock to a chamber with T-45 power armor, although the set is incomplete: torso, left arm, right leg and, of course, a nuclear unit.

Help: T-45 Power Armor

The T-45 Power Armor cannot match the protection offered by more advanced models, but it supports a full range of modifications. This model of power armor is not very common, but a complete set can only be found on the roof of the Liberty Museum in Concord.

Then you will see a large pipe overgrown with wild plants - this is the tunnel.

Follow the sewer and you will find yourself at the old Underground base. As soon as you enter, the Deacon will finally tell you why you came here. You need to pick up the prototype developed by Dr. Carrington.

Pick up Carrington's prototype

From the very beginning of the journey you will run into a closed door. It is opened by a terminal (the level is very difficult), you can hack it yourself if the level allows it or let the Deacon do it. He will be able to access terminals that you were unable to hack throughout your journey to the goal.

Go forward, killing synths, when you see a subway sign with a rectangle inside, like in the screenshot below, look into the pipe located behind the boxes. There is a window cut out below, and inside there is a cache of ammunition and weapons.

When the tunnel ends, you will again run into the door. Open it using the terminal located nearby (level - easy). Now you've arrived at an Underground base called the Switchboard, a secret research laboratory of the Defense Intelligence Agency. You need to get into the very center of the complex to pick up the prototype.

In the very first large room of the Switchboard, take the nuclear unit for power armor in the room on the left. Then go upstairs.

Clue

On the desk next to the globe you will find "US Covert Operations Manual" issue 2. It will unlock or enhance an existing magazine perk that will make you harder to detect while in stealth mode. You can familiarize yourself with all the magazine perks.

On the same table there is a central terminal (the level is difficult), you can of course hack it (get experience), but there is nothing useful in it. Only information for general development.

Here's another terminal (level - difficult) in the same room near the door, disables the optical traps waiting for you behind the door. Go to the right and you will find medicine in the first aid kit, and behind the locked door (lock level - medium) - ammunition. And the road to the left brings you closer to the mission goal. You can simply follow the signs on the walls to get to Department X. Once you get there, the Deacon will access the terminal and open the safe room door.

Behind it you will find the body of Underground agent, Tommy Urington, who died while protecting Underground secrets. And Deacon will give you a unique weapon, Tommy, the “Savior”.

Help: Savior

Damage: 30

Ammunition: 10 mm cartridges

Rate of fire: 66

Range: 53

Accuracy: 67

Weight: 4,4

Price: 774

Installed:

  • Standard receiver
  • Short barrel
  • Standard handle
  • Staff store
  • Standard sight
  • Muffler

Peculiarity: Increased chance of hitting V.A.T.S., reduced action point consumption by 25%.

Here, in this safe room on a shelf, you will find a prototype of Carrington, which the Deacon asked to deliver to Desdemona, for which she will be obliged to accept you into the Underground. On the same shelf you will find a couple of stealth battles, and on the other - a nuclear mini-charge for the Fat Man.

Leave Switch

Now you need to leave the Switchboard and get to the Underground, but first you can fully explore the base. In the room preceding the safe, you'll find a couple of protective kits that have a radiation resistance of 1000. Not bad, huh?

At the end of the corridor you will find an elevator, but to get to it you will have to destroy the synths. In the same room, in a closed chamber, which is directly opposite the entrance (the castle level is medium), you will find another nuclear unit for power armor. Then turn on the power to the elevator using the terminal, which does not require hacking, and use it to disable the turrets. Well, now, rise to the surface.

Meet the Deacon at the Old North Church

On the surface, your final battle with synths and turrets awaits you, and that’s it. Head to the Old North Church and meet the Deacon there. You can fast travel, or at least be careful - there's a minefield waiting for you outside.

The location of the mines can be viewed in V.A.T.S.

But while you are not far from Lexington, you can look into the local Supermarket, if you are not afraid of wild ghouls, of course. There you can find a magazine and all types of Yader-Cola. More details in the passage of the repeating Brotherhood of Steel quest “Cleansing the Commonwealth” (Supermarket location). However, if you are not yet sure about the faction, you can look there later when you are on the side of the Brotherhood of Steel.

When you reach the Underground headquarters, be prepared for a surprise. The deacon, telling Desdemona about the progress of the operation, embellished everything a little. No, in fact, he concocted a big lie.

Charisma

You can support the Deacon, who is trying to “sell” this lie to Desdemona (persuasive level - easy).
