I visited coffee shops of this chain in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Overall, I had a pleasant impression, so I decided to tell you more.

To be honest, I have been to Coffee House coffee shops in Moscow for a long time, a couple of years ago for sure. But I was in the St. Petersburg network quite recently and for now I’ll tell you about fresh memories, so I’ll take the Coffee House on Lenin Square as a basis (if I’m not mistaken).

The cafe is located next to the station, it is convenient, but there are steps!!! It's difficult to get up with a suitcase. The establishment is located on two floors, but of course I didn’t go to the second with a suitcase.

The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting. I usually prefer tables by the window. There were many such places here.

Wooden tables and chairs, high ceilings are standard for this coffee shop chain.

I would like to separately note the good WiFi, I was able to watch a training video on alcohol markers and draw.


Staff, menu, prices.

Kind and polite waitresses, no problems arose, the girls were quite attentive.

Prices.

The most budget breakfast was 99 rubles. There were also more expensive ones, like the very best cost 299 rubles.

They also have many offerings for lunch. The price also seems to me to have been about 350 rubles.

The prices are about the same as "Shokoladnitsa", although it seemed to me a little cheaper.

It’s difficult to look at the menu on the official website; all the information there is written very strangely. In general, it differs from the menu in the coffee shop itself.

I took breakfast, which was on sale for 99 rubles. But there are more tasty and appetizing ones, I just didn’t want to eat much, but there was still a lot of time before the train.

What can I say about breakfast...tea and mini sandwiches. Quite tasty, especially from the road.

And when I was driving back, I already got to lunch. I decided to take the soup and tortilla. The cost of such a set was about 350 rubles. The drink I chose again was tea.

I also bought coffee there, but I couldn’t find a photo, but I will say that the coffee was delicious.

Bottom line.

Nice interior, polite staff, affordable prices on the menu make the Coffee House coffee shop a desirable place to visit. I will come again and again, the main thing is that the positive aspects continue to delight visitors.

Everything was delicious, both breakfast and lunch. The products were fresh, which is important.

I love cream soup and try it everywhere. The soup was tender, but the croutons didn't go well with it... but that's the only negative.

The tortilla was also wonderful and I also liked that they brought the dish on a plank.

The portions, in my opinion, are medium in size, that is, for a man, of course, it is better to choose a 3-course lunch.

The chain of coffee shops has become “their” place for many, where they meet with friends, celebrate, make appointments, or simply reflect over a cup of hot drink with an interesting book.

No wonder the name coffee house Coffee house translates as “coffee house”. This is, in fact, a cozy and hospitable corner where you are always welcome and where you will always feel “at home”.

The first cafe opened in Moscow in the Actor Gallery shopping center on September 29, 1999. And it all started with the fact that young and talented guys from the capital were lucky enough to learn from the best barista in Milan.

Giuseppe Grasse helped Muscovites understand all the intricacies of making real coffee. Therefore, upon returning to Moscow, it was decided to open our own coffee house chain Coffee House. So, under the leadership of the talented entrepreneur Timur Khairutdinov, a new brand in the restaurant business appeared and began to actively develop, namely - Coffee house.

Now it is the largest chain of coffee shops in Russia. Today, about 200 cafes are open at Coffee House in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and other cities. Moreover, the network continues to actively develop, delighting Russians with more and more cozy coffee shops.

At the end of 2014, the Shokoladnitsa coffee shop chain purchased the Coffee House chain, its main competitor in the Moscow market. It made no sense for the company to have two strong brands in its portfolio providing the same “product”, that is, a cafe with seating, waiters, a large full menu and average and above average price positioning.

The owners decided to change the concept of the Coffee House chain, thereby preventing mutual cannibalization of brands in the portfolio. According to the results of market research, from the beginning of the economic crisis in 2014 to this day, the turnover of classic restaurants with waiters has been falling. These types of establishments are losing market share to fast food and other concepts that provide more affordable and faster food options.

The concept of the new “Coffee House” had the working title of “quick service coffee shop” and meant the availability of a large selection of coffee and coffee drinks, as well as a wide selection of ready-made food and baked goods that can be quickly eaten on the spot or taken with you. We were very inspired by the upcoming project, since each of us sincerely believed in the promise of the new concept!

Task

We solved the problem of helping the owners correctly position the new “Coffee House” and, using the appearance, interior, logo and other elements of customer experience, explain to people what the essence of the new concept is, and why “Coffee House” has become better than others in the highly competitive Moscow market .


Strategy

When starting work, we had to answer the question: “How do Muscovites feel about the old format Coffee House?” The project team had two hypotheses: Muscovites do not like the coffee of this chain, people choose Coffee House coffee shops as a meeting place. We interviewed about 50 visitors to different points of the chain and several clients of other coffee shops.

The first hypothesis was completely refuted - the vast majority of respondents liked the coffee served at Coffee House, and about a third of respondents called it the best in the city. This once again proved to us how important it is not to focus on our own perceptions, but to listen to those for whom the final product is being made.

The second hypothesis was partially confirmed: people actually most often went to the Coffee House with someone and perceived the coffee shop as an excellent place for communication. It became clear to us that this could become one of the key difficulties at the rebranding stage. Coffee House is switching to quick service, and the new business model will be less designed for long-term entertainment.

At the same time, a plus was the understanding that although people spent a lot of time in the chain’s coffee shops, they did not perceive them as a place where they could eat well (despite the long menu). The respondents most often heard the words “snack” and “eat something tasty.”

Having compared the results of consumer and competitive research, we came to the main conclusion that formed the basis for the future strategy of the new “Coffee House” - Muscovites who love coffee and move around the city a lot during the day have nowhere to eat.

When choosing a suitable establishment, you have to make compromises, that is, choose between delicious food and good coffee, between a cozy atmosphere and fast service, between price and quality, between tasty and not too unhealthy food. As a result of a strategic session with the participation of representatives of the Coffee House and the Plenum project team, a positioning was developed: “A place for the ideal urban coffee break.”

In the new brand platform, we described in detail all the benefits that the guest receives, and also determined the nature of the brand and the tone of its communications. The new “Coffee House” should become a trendy place for a mass audience to have a coffee snack and help them maintain a good mood and strength when moving around the city.




Creative solutions

We made the clear, lively and bold image of the messenger into the brand’s signature graphics. Like a good friend, “Coffee House” tells you how to quickly, tasty, cheaply and with maximum comfort have a snack.



Branded emoji complement dialogues and enhance the emotional component.

The new brand sign directly visualizes a coffee snack. The new color scheme combines two colors: orange, typical of the fast-food category, and brown-burgundy, the color of coffee.


The brightest and main carrier of the brand is the branded glass. Depending on the size, various emotional messages and emoji are placed on it.
