Among the many recipes for mulled wine, drinks based on orange juice are especially popular. They have a pleasant and refined taste, perfectly combining citrus freshness and piquant notes of spices. But the main trump card of orange mulled wine is their anti-cold properties, which are always handy in a frosty winter.

Important! For mulled wine, it is preferable to use freshly squeezed juice or whole oranges. This will diversify the taste of the drink due to the pulp and peel of the tropical fruit. Fresh orange contains a wide range of vitamins and microelements, which makes mulled wine with orange juice especially useful in winter.

Orange mulled wine helps not only to warm up, but also to cope with autumn vitamin deficiencies or quickly recover from an illness. It has an antimicrobial effect, strengthens the immune system, dilates blood vessels and even normalizes blood pressure. There are plenty of reasons to enjoy a glass of this wonderful drink.

Today we will look at some interesting recipes for mulled wine with orange, but you can experiment using tangerine, grapefruit, Sicilian orange and other citruses.

Mulled wine “Hot Kiss” with cinnamon and orange juice

This drink has a pronounced orange-cinnamon aroma, complemented favorably by other spices. Among the great variety of cinnamon recipes, this one deserves special attention. The key secret to success is a good dry wine with a bright red color and rich taste.

Ingredients:

  • wine – 750 ml;
  • sugar – 75 g;
  • orange – 2 pcs. (medium size);
  • honey – 1 tsp;
  • raisins – 3 berries;
  • ginger – 1/2 tsp;
  • cinnamon – 1 tsp. (it’s better not to overdo it);
  • cardamom, cloves, star anise and rose hips - 2-3 pcs each.

Preparation:

  1. Open the wine and let it “breathe” for about 20 minutes. While it is saturating, prepare the remaining ingredients.
  2. Pour the wine into an enamel saucepan and put on fire. Aluminum dishes are not suitable for mulled wine, but you can use a stainless steel pan.
  3. Squeeze the juice from the oranges into a saucepan with wine, add sugar and chopped orange peel and stir.
  4. Add spices to the mixture and bring to near a boil.
  5. When the first bubbles appear, remove the pan from the heat and cover with a towel, leaving to simmer for 15 minutes.

During the simmering process, the aroma of spices and orange peel will completely transfer into the mulled wine. It is recommended to drink it from large mugs or thick-walled glasses that maintain temperature for a long time. Pastries, sweets or fruits are great as a snack. It is recommended to add a small amount of honey to each glass.

Mulled wine Fallout with orange, apple and lemon

Apple is a traditional autumn fruit, which is still fresh at this time of year and contains a maximum of useful substances. By the way, it is the apple that contains almost the complete set of all the vitamins and microelements necessary for the human body, which is why it is called “the healthiest fruit.”

Apple also goes well with the aroma of cinnamon, so it has a positive effect on the taste of mulled wine. The drink has a charming taste with indescribable freshness. The recipe is based on bitter vermouth, which makes the drink even more spicy and healthy.

Ingredients:

  • vermouth – 1000 ml;
  • drinking water – 400 ml;
  • oranges – 2 pcs.
  • lemon – 2 pieces.
  • apples – 2 pcs.;
  • cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon - 1/3 tsp each.

Preparation:

  1. Pour vermouth and water into a saucepan, add spices and place on low heat.
  2. Cut the oranges and throw the slices into the pan, squeezing them first to release the juice.
  3. We cut the apples into slices, remove the core with seeds, but do not touch the peel (it contains a lot of vitamins, which will not be superfluous in the fall).
  4. Add 1-2 slices of lemon to give the mulled wine a subtle, pleasant sourness.
  5. We bring the mixture to 70 degrees and make sure that it does not boil. After 10 minutes, remove from the heat and wrap for 15 minutes so that the drink infuses and is saturated with a bouquet of spices.

When bottling, it is recommended to carefully strain the drink so that it is clear. Thanks to the presence of a bouquet of medicinal herbs, this mulled wine strengthens the immune system and helps to quickly cure autumn colds. Since it is always drunk hot, the medicinal effect is greatly enhanced. Before pouring, add a few grams of honey into glasses (meadow or herb honey is suitable).

Mulled wine “Muscat” with dry wine and orange

This aromatic drink will be an excellent companion on a long walk through the cool autumn forest (of course, for this it must be in a thermos). The nutmeg component slightly increases blood pressure, which also makes this drink useful in the autumn, especially for hypotensive people. But the main pleasant feature of this mulled wine is its indescribable piquant aroma, which helps to cheer up and puts your thoughts in order.

Ingredients:

  • dry red wine – 750 ml;
  • nutmeg – 1 tsp;
  • oranges – 2 pcs.;
  • lemons – 1 pc.;
  • sugar – up to 100 g (for those with a sweet tooth);
  • drinking water – 200-250 ml;
  • cinnamon and cloves - 2 pcs.

Preparation:

  1. Wash the citrus fruits thoroughly and cut into slices (without removing the peel).
  2. Place the citrus fruits in a saucepan, add water, add cloves and cinnamon.
  3. Place on low heat and heat while stirring constantly.
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cover the pan with a lid.
  5. At the same time, heat the wine with nutmeg in another saucepan.
  6. Combine the contents of both pans, add sugar and mix thoroughly.
  7. Warm the mixture for about 15 minutes, after which you can strain and pour into glasses.

Mulled wine “Muscat” goes well with fruits, pastries, a variety of sweets and desserts. Please note that nutmeg gives off its most pleasant notes first, so steeping for too long can spoil the taste with too much spice. It is important to strain the drink well to completely remove any remaining ground spices.

Do not forget that nutmeg is considered beneficial, but in large quantities it increases blood pressure, can lead to eating disorders and negatively affect the nervous system. Its excess can simply spoil the taste of mulled wine, so for the first time it is recommended to add less of this spice than required by the recipe.

Ginger mulled wine "Kirschwasser" with brandy and orange

This version of mulled wine received its unusual name in honor of the drink of the same name (Kirschwasser - brandy made from cherry or cherry wort, not subjected to aging in oak barrels). Since it can be difficult to find this rare drink of decent quality, you can replace it with another fruit or berry brandy.

Ingredients:

  • dry red wine – 750 ml;
  • Kirschwasser or other fruit brandy – 150-250 ml;
  • oranges – 2-3 pcs.;
  • ginger – 1-2 tsp;
  • cinnamon – 2-3 pcs.;
  • cloves – 6-8 pcs.;
  • sugar (can be replaced with honey) – 50-100 g;

Preparation:

  1. Wash the fruit thoroughly and cut into slices (with peel).
  2. Place everything except the ginger and brandy in a saucepan (but it’s best not to touch the honey yet).
  3. Stirring thoroughly, heat the contents of the pan over low heat and let the wine simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Add ginger, pour in brandy and simmer for another 10 minutes.

The finished mulled wine is poured into glasses and drunk hot, in small sips. If you can't find cherry brandy, slivovitz, Calvados or boletus are great options. The characteristic almond aroma can be added to the drink using bitter almonds.

Warming mulled wine recipe with honey and orange

This version of mulled wine combines unusual freshness and warming properties, has a sweet aftertaste, but is perfect as an aperitif for any meal. The original recipe calls for dry wine, but it can be replaced with semi-sweet wine to highlight the flavors of citrus and honey.

Ingredients:

  • wine – 750 ml;
  • honey (it is better to take flower honey) – 50-100 g;
  • orange – 2 pcs.;
  • cloves – 8-10 pcs.;
  • cinnamon – 1-2 pcs.;
  • allspice – 3-5 pcs.;
  • apple – 1/2 pcs.

Preparation:

  1. Mix honey with wine, heat to 60-70 °C (such heating is harmful for honey, so you can vary the recipe).
  2. Add fruits, wash them thoroughly and cut them with peel.
  3. Add spices, stir and leave over low heat.
  4. After 15 minutes, remove.

When hot, this mulled wine warms you up well in autumn and winter weather. If you want to get a healing effect, it is better not to simmer honey with wine, and add it to an already strained and slightly cooled drink - this way it will retain more healing properties.

Recipes for mulled wine with apples and oranges

Hot, spicy mulled wine based on red wine - ideally Bordeaux - in the Middle Ages in the countries of Central and Northern Europe was the main drink of Christmas markets and other winter holidays in the open air. At that time, dry red wine was flavored mainly with galangal, the main seasoning in the cuisine of Southeast Asia. This root is a relative of ginger, but unlike it, it is not as hot and has an additional, slightly perfumey aroma that can replace a whole range of spices. Later it was replaced by mixtures of cinnamon sticks, cardamom boxes, cloves, star anise, allspice and orange peels, to which they began to add a sweetener - honey or sugar. However, no matter what the final set of spices is, when preparing mulled wine it is important to adhere to one main principle - under no circumstances boil the wine.
